Alexander just kept making the coffee. Funny, really, that the very concept of electricity had been alien to him only so recently, and now he was going through the motions of turning on a coffee machine as if it was second nature.
"Yep. That's what Maryanne said," he told her, a little dismissively. Fuck, fuck, fuck, why had he asked her to come over if he was just going to shut down and refuse to engage. He turned and stepped towards her as the machine whirred away in the background.
