Zu sipped on her own tea. It was still rather hot, just on the edge of being drinkable. "Where I am from originally, I needed to live like that for quite some time," she admitted. It was still a painful memory. "The state of my country did not permit anything else for children. It gave me a new appreciation of anything nice and pretty." It had made her life seem less dangerous and given it a touch of normality. She had been so young. Pretty dresses should have been her primary longing, instead they had been replaced by the want for food and shelter.
"As for how long I have been here... it's actually not a straight forward answer. In this particular universe, I have been for about a year." She couldn't believe it had been so long already. "But from the age of twelve, I grew up in a parallel version of it. Very similar but not quite the same. I do, however, also have memories of growing up in my old world. It's like I lived some parts of my life twice." She smiled through another sip. "That must be very confusing for you."
