Who: Gen & John Where: John’s place What: Talking When: Evening Rating: Middlish Open: No Status: Unfinished
Gen slowly put away the empty bottles that had started to accumulate on the counter. By now, it had become routine. By now, it was also something that happened far too often for her liking. She worried about him. He seemed to be so strong. Not like her with her tears and desperation. He seemed to be able to march through everything thrown at him. But being replaced by someone else – by another them - how could it not leave a mark? It had left a hole in her and he could see the subtle change in him as well. What she didn’t know was how to talk to him about it.
Instead, she cooked food, she looked after him. Cleaning, chatting and cooking. She wasn’t a good cook but neither of them seemed to mind. And every time she got a little better. But it wasn’t just the drive to make him feel better. Gen needed it for herself. She needed to do something, anything, to keep her mind from going crazy and thinking too much about what had happened. If what she did was for the man she loved, it was all the better.
“Dinner is almost ready,” she said with a smile to John. She loved watching him work while she cooked. She loved watching him in general. He seemed so concentrated, so engrossed. It was almost a shame to drag him out of it.
