Higgs liked to think of a song in the moments before he died. He always found that Ave Maria in E flat minor was fitting, particularly because in these moments, he perceived time differently. Things became slow.
He watched Erandur's smile. The man suited an older complexion. A sad thing that he was ageless. He witnessed the path of the maul towards his midsection, watching it split and shatter the remaining few raindrops as it arced towards him. He made sure Erandur could see the fear in his eyes, he made sure that he pulled and tugged at his wrist to try and escape the oncoming blow but... Well, it was pointless.
And it wouldn't matter.
The maul shattered his ribs, pushing shards into his lungs and vital organs. His spine shifted with a sickening crackle and he felt himself go limp in Erandur's grip. He had a few seconds left to live, so as the knife dropped from his hand he used his last gasp to catch it with his other and drive it into Erandur's knee.
