WHO: Miguel and Sarah (and the kids)
WHERE: Their apartment
WHAT: Relearning things
WHEN: Early Saturday morning
OPEN: Nope
Miguel was up early, before Sarah and the kids, so he was trying to make breakfast for everyone. The problem was that he couldn't quite remember where everything lived, so while Lyla was telling him to go to a certain cupboard for certain things, he had automatically gone to different cupboards. Once or twice could be excused, but it seemed to be every single thing - mugs and plates, ingredients, a skillet, everything. How often had they rearranged the shocking cupboards, he wondered, if his memories were this out-of-tune. At least the coffee machine was sitting out, and he knew where to find ground coffee. The pot of coffee was the first thing he'd made, so he had a fresh mug to drink from while he leaned his hip against the counter and spoke quietly to Lyla.
"Can you project a list of what's in the cupboards up onto them when they're closed, until I relearn everything?" he asked his holo-agent, who was standing in the center of the room.
"Of course, Miguel," she replied, before she smoothed non-existent wrinkles from her skirt. "Are you sure you don't want me to prepare breakfast?"
"No, that's oka-" he said, pausing when he heard a door opening very quietly. Lyla paused as well, and then they both looked round to see Harri peering over at them, scrubbing at her eyes. Miguel had been in this time for only a couple of days so it still caught him off-guard when he expected to see his grown-up daughter and instead she was this tiny little girl who was entirely too adorable. And yes, he was biased, but he figured he was allowed to be.
"Miggy?" she asked, around a yawn.
"Yes, mija?"
"Are you tryna make breakfast?"
"Yeah. But you and your mommy moved everything in the cupboards so I don't know where anything is any more," he said, setting his coffee down on the counter before going over to pick her up. "Lyla's trying to help me."
"We didn't move things, silly, you just got older so you remember more things, so it's harder to remember all the way back to here," Harri said with a giggle as she tucked herself in against his side.
"Is that what happened?" he wondered, pretending to think about it for a moment. "Huh, I guess you're right. What do you want for breakfast?"
"Spicy eggs, please!"
Miguel grinned, since he had already been planning to make huevos rancheros for himself at least. "I can do that. Are you going to help me remember where everything is?"
"Yeah. Can I have juice too?"
"You sure can. Just go to the bathroom first and wash your hands carefully when you're finished, okay? I won't start anything until you're back."
"Promise?"
"I'm just going to drink coffee and talk to Lyla, that's all. Don't take too long or I'll think you've fallen into the plughole or the toilet or something else just as gross," he said as he set her back down on her feet.
"That is gross," Harri decided, her nose all scrunched up at the thought of it, before heading off towards the bathroom. Miguel watched her go before going back to drink some more coffee.
