Neville had spent most of the day in his greenhouses. He spent a lot of time there, his hands in the soil, Ruby playing in the park around the glass structures, occasionally stopping to peer in on him. He figured it might isolate him a little bit, but he'd always been more than a little bit introverted. Hope had pulled him out a little bit, but she'd been gone for a while now.
He was walking through the food court to get back to his apartment, taking the long way around because it was better than one of the treadmills he sometimes used. It was quiet, which he figured made sense, it was too late for lunch but too early for dinner, but there was one man there, someone he didn't recognize. He looked asleep so Neville ignored him.
But then the man jumped awake, all fast breath and quick movement and Neville couldn't help the way his hand twitched toward his wand where it sat in an inner pocket of his cardigan. When the other man seemed to calm, so did Neville, sticking his hand in the front pocket of the cardigan instead.
He recognized it, that reaction. He'd been in that place himself often enough. And, when he was living in one room with dozens of other kids, hiding from things kids should never have to see...nightmares were pretty common. He watched the man take a shaky drink of his coffee and then make a face.
"I could...warm that up. If you want?" he offered, stepping a little closer to the table where the man was sitting. It was a little bit of a lame way to start up a conversation but it was what came when he opened his mouth.
