How had he managed to get himself into this mess again? Why did he think it would be a good idea to break into some unknown magical sanctum? Not just a magical sanctum but one he had to travel through a portal to get to. On a bloody space station of all places! John was desperate for answers. Desperate to find tools to fill his arsenal once more. The Sanctum, while unobserved was in a quantum state of both magically useful and useless all at the same time. And John wanted to know which one it was. And that which is observed by its very nature changes, doesn't it?
He had managed to get into the Sanctum easily enough. He could feel the energies. Followed the leylines to exactly where he needed to be, and once he had torn down the Sanctums concealment's, at least temporarily, he was in. One sleep spell later and he had a disguise. The poor sod he put to sleep had been hidden away in what John could only assume was a cupboard. It was hard to tell at a first glance. Of course, John hadn't just left the poor gent. John had stolen his ring from him before he left. It looked interesting, and he could feel a magical connection to the strange chunk of metal.
Handy little things were glamour spells. And John was rather good with them. But he knew when he entered that he would have to be quick. He didn't know what to expect when he considered breaking into a house of magic. But he wanted to find information, and if he couldn't find that, he wanted to get something useful. Anything to get an upper hand back on the station. He knew he wouldn't have long to look around before someone noticed that he wasn't supposed to be there.
The first room of note he came across was full of tall glass cases, each containing a small variety of old looking objects. None of these objects meant much to John. Nothing stood out to him and so he walked past them. The thing that did catch his eye were tall arch like windows. Or were they doors? He could feel a tingle of energy around the ring he had stolen. Holding his hand up, he held it in front of the arch. It seemed to spark again, orange flashes snapping in the still air. Was this ring some sort of device for travel? Maybe it worked with the panels in front of him? He focused on places of knowledge. A library. A place where he could find answers, and in his desperation, the surface before him flickered to life. A few sacred words to bolster his magic and the portal appeared. But it didn't appear in the large door like structures before him but rather the portal hung in the air, fizzing with orange sparks. John took a moment, just staring at the portal in wonder. A smile lifted the corners of his lips. To dive in head first or just leave it? Dive in, of course.
Stepping through, he found himself standing in a strange looking library. There wasn't much time to stand around. He knew he would have guards or protectors on him quickly enough. He looked through the library until he came upon books wrapped in chains. That was likely where the interesting information was. He grabbed a couple of them, along with a couple of the other books, and tucked them away into a large leather bag. It was time to go back to the Sanctum. Focusing on a library seemed to get him to a library so perhaps all he had to do was focus on the Sanctum?
A portal jump later, and a few stolen books, and he was making his escape.
How had he managed to get into this sort of mess again? There was no time to stop and ask himself stupid questions. He had to keep going. As he ran towards the wall, he uttered a spell under his breath, shifting straight through the wall and out onto the other side. He was going to feel that the next day. He stumbled and staggered onto his feet and started to run again. All he had to do was find the portal back to the station. Hopefully no one from the Sanctum would be able to follow him back. Hopefully. Shifting out of his glamoured disguise, he made a dash for an alleyway and stopped for a quick breather.
