Kelan had to stop and cough. It was a particularly nasty cough, even for him, and all sorts of stuff rattled round in his chest before he had to hack a load of it up. He remembered just in time that this was not the Factory, where he could simply just get rid of gunk by spitting it into the many different bins or furnaces. This was the amazingly-clean place his Gods had brought him to, and he couldn't defile any of it with gunk. He grabbed at his blanket and spat it out into a corner, before leaning against the nearest wall and doing his best to get his breath back.
All of this meant that he didn't hear anyone speaking or approaching him until he lifted his head and saw a young woman looking at him. He pushed himself off of the wall and stood up as straight as he could.
