Briseis had indeed been in the kitchen cooking since early morning. She'd done much of it the old fashioned way - it was the only way she knew. She had a fresh loaf of bread cooling on a wire rack on the table, and on the stove was a greek-style stew that she'd made with what she could find around the island. It smelled good, but she knew it would be far more than she could ever eat on her own.
When she had heard the strange, unhappy man speaking on the network, it had solved her little dilemma. He was certainly hungry, and perhaps having a warm meal in his stomach would make him feel better about arriving here, or at least make him feel better. She was used to taking care of men, to seeing their happiness as hers. And since neither her father, her husband, or Achilles were here right now, she needed someone to watch over, to care for, and perhaps Mr. Peter would be a perfect surrogate.
She found a bowl in the cupboard and scooped him out a big hearty bowl of stew and placed it on the table with a big hunk of bread, some butter, and a glass of wine. She hoped he would like it, and that it would, as food could, ease some of his sorrows.
