Cristiano had spent the morning on his regular patrol around the city, as always finding nothing devious in the water--for which he was thankful. After the ghosts of his people swarming the kingdom he had doubled, tripled his rounds and efforts. When Juliet was away, however, he was slightly more lax being he did not concern much for himself. One mer in a kingdom was an awfully lonely thing, and also he did not need to be on guard for that. Not in the way he was when Juliet was home or when the humans swam in for a visit.

Today, he cut through the water up and down the shore, his strong tail propelling himself through the water. He was enjoying the sun on his back as he moved close to the surface, closer than he ever would have swam back home, before he met Juliet and came to know humans not as monsters but as good people. They were very good people. All of those he met, even the troubled ones. Cristiano liked these humans despite still having some fear and he figured forever he would have some lingering fear in his heart.

Still, he was trying to be brave and learn.

Moving along in the water he popped up briefly after taking a solid gulp of air (or water, as it were) to peek around for any company he might find. In the distance he was sure he saw someone and so he sank under the crystalline surface and head in their direction, tail making big and easy sweeps behind him. He was there in a flash before he took another swallow, the same way a human took a deep breath before holding it for a swim, and surfaced.

"Hello!"

Tommy had hardly done any swimming since the door to his Aunt and Uncle's home had opened up, preferring to spend as much time as he could on the other planet, but he'd woken up that morning and he knew he needed to go for a good long swim before he did anything else. He'd left a note on the fridge before grabbing some food, a flask of coffee and his swimming stuff, and headed off to the beach.

He was a strong swimmer and before he knew it he'd been swimming for most of the morning, doing "lengths" of the beach. And then there was a voice and he nearly jumped out of his skin!

Spinning round, he blinked as he saw Cris bobbing about in the water not too far away from him. "Cris! Uh, hi. Is Jules with you?" he wondered and looked round for his sister while he treaded water, before looking back at her boyfriend again.

Closing the gap easily under the water, Cristiano surfaced nearby with about four or five feet between them. He smiled broadly, his tan skin even more bronze now that the spring and summer sun had struck the land. Shaking his head, he waved a hand in passing.

"No, Angelfish is off doing her own thing," he said around his accent of the Mediterranean. "I'm just out to be out. Enjoying the water?" He ran a hand over his dark brown hair to slick out some of the water that gathered in the locks that began to curl the moment they seemed to even be a shade dry.

"Oh," he replied, and nodded. It wasn't that he didn't like Cris, and all to do with the fact that Tommy was beyond rubbish at talking to people he wasn't related to. Sure, Cris was his sister's boyfriend, but they hadn't really chatted all that much yet and so he floundered with what to say.

"I, um. Yeah. I like swimming, but I've been on Pandora so much recently and I haven't been swimming since the door opened, I think, so I decided to take today off and come here," he rambled, "...uh, obviously, because I'm here. You?"

Oh, that was a dumb thing to ask a merman, Tommy... "I mean, I know you like the water far better, I just, uh. Is this a cool place to visit? I'd imagine beaches aren't the most interesting of places when you can go find underwater cave systems and coral reefs and places like that."

If it was any consolation, Cristiano was still struggling to learn how to talk to humans...because somehow despite only being different from the waist-down appearance wise, he never knew what to say. Perhaps because he feared them for his entire life until now. Perhaps because he didn't know what their life was like.

So he asked. After he addressed the polite questions, of course! With a friendly chuckle as he tipped back a bit and let his massive tail fin flick up and splash Tommy.

Tidal waaaaave.

"I wish I could go to this Pandora, but I cannot make it to the door very well to travel," he said with another hand motion, this one in the direction of land. "I cannot breathe air long," he confessed. "I like to explore the shore that I can reach. I want to know what is here, to keep us safe. Also, the beaches are very nice. Not as great as the ship wrecks and reefs....but they're nice." He gave another friendly smile.

The wave rocked at Tommy, splashing over his face and pushing him back in the water, but he just flicked the worst of it off and then gave a token splash as he swam back towards Cris. "That's hardly fair, you've got a serious advantage," he pointed out as he gestured down at Cris's tail. He remembered the door where it had turned everyone who'd gone through it into a merperson or a sea creature of some kind, and he remembered the strength his tail had had.

He frowned a little, trying to work out the mechanics of how Cris breathed, but then the conversation turned back to ship wrecks and reefs, and Tommy couldn't help but grin. "Are there any? Shipwrecks, I mean."

The merman laughed, realizing at the tail end of it that it felt really good to laugh. Not that he didn't laugh with Juliet or when he stopped by the Sully House, but sometimes it seemed few and far between. He often caught himself dwelling on not being home to fight in the war and there was nothing to laugh at there.

"But I can do it no hands!" Cristiano then teased and mock-flipped his tail at him, the water surging at the surface but likely only sending a handful of frothy bubbles at Tommy below the blue and white crest.

"Oh, a few! Do you want to see them?" the sun-kissed mer asked with a broad smile in return. "First date I had with Angelfish, I took her to the wreck and she left with lots of jewelry." His grin turned to a prideful smirk.
