Clint knew that this was part of the process, that it was something Maryanne needed to do when she lost someone important to her, so he didn't interfere, letting her take the time she needed. The babies were all asleep, most in their rooms, but Maria in her bassinet next to the bed. She'd been fussy so he kept her close for now.
It was a warm enough night that he left the window open, a movie playing on the television with no sound though he wasn't much paying attention to it. He was more preoccupied watching the baby and checking his phone.
When she came in though he was on his feet right away, noticing the blood she left on the window sill he went to the bathroom first. He found the softest cloth he could and wet it with cool water.
"Hi." he whispered to her, sitting next to her and then leaning over to kiss her head. He gently picked up one of her paws and held it in his lap as he cleaned the blood away as gently as he could manage. It wasn't something necessary-she'd heal when she changed back anyway, but he didn't know how long she needed to stay like this and wanted to make her feel as comfortable as he could.
