Oh, how Paul wanted to believe all of this! Later he would doubt it all, he would be easily convinced by anyone who tried to tell him magic wasn't real, his natural pessimism contributing a great deal. Right now, though, he believed it. A flicker of doubt and a flicker of hope fought together and the doubt was nearly squashed by the force of Jareth's personality. The crystal came flying towards him and instinctively he caught it with one hand. He didn't know how to move it, though, so he just held it, feeling the smoothness under his fingers.
"Do you think so?" Puff asked, hesitant but eager at the same time. "I suppose I do feel like one sometimes... but the fire doesn't want to come out. It just sits in my belly and pains me. I don't know how to...." He trailed off. He didn't even know how to end that sentence. He looked back down at the crystal and then back to Jareth.
