Reid was able to pick out every single emotion that flashed across the man's face, twisted the tone of his voice, but it felt dirty. It felt wrong. He didn't want to profile Gideon - honestly, he didn't want to know the deep, dark secrets that the man held within his memories, the way his mind worked, the negative sides of him that reared their ugly heads whenever he lost control enough for them to do so. His fears, his concerns, his regrets. Reid didn't want to know any of it. He didn't want anything to tarnish the hero he held so close to his heart, he looked up to, named Jason Gideon.
He nodded, both eyebrows raising high as he attempted to keep his expression positive and pleasant. No doubt, Gideon could see through it, but Reid hoped that he would at least give him credit for trying to be strong and smile. "Yeah, I, um... Hotch is doing a great job, as Unit Chief? And we're working with David Rossi - the David Rossi, I know - and Emily's still there, and Morgan, and Garcia..." This felt so alien. He had honestly come to terms with the fact he would never see Gideon again, and had accepted the note he left on, but now... well, this just threw everything back out of balance.
"Um, sit - please, sit down, I... just make yourself comfortable. Did you want, uh, coffee? Tea? Water?" He crossed the room to the small fridge, hand hesitating by the door. Gideon would either respond water, please or not just yet or something along those lines, one or the other, Reid knew. But he wanted to be polite and offer all options regardless.
And then, he would begin their therapy session, and the way to start a therapy session was the same way to start a profile. Three things - victimology, M.O., and history. He was looking forward to none of these three, or at least the way they related to Gideon's case and disorders. He had a feeling he knew about the victimology, the people that this man had seen fall - and then there was the M.O., which was Gideon's psyche, his personality, and the fact that he had turned himself in as well as his actions and symptoms. And then... history. Reid swallowed. What had led him to be this way.
