Summary: Christmas Eve with Nick and Greg.
Nick was reclined on the couch, Greg in-between his legs, the both of them covered with a soft, afghan.
A Christmas tree was in the corner with a pile of presents in a circle around the base of the tree and the only lights in the entire house, were the small, rainbow-colored lights that decorated the tree.
Soft music echoed out of the stereo, mostly slow and soft, the kind of Christmas music you wanted to listen to as you drifted off to sleep on Christmas Eve; anticipating snow and a roaring fire to greet you Christmas morning as presents awaited opening, and stockings were hanging as toys poked from top.
Nick had his eyes closed and Greg seemed almost asleep, but Nick’s eyes fluttered open and he smiled.
Here he was, his own house, the man he loved, and a truly peaceful night on Earth.
There was no snow in Vegas this winter, but there were snowflakes in the windows, drawn by an eager Greg.
There was no actual fire in a fireplace, but Greg’s laptop had a screensaver that was a roaring fire, realistic in how it looked and how it sounded, also it how it lit the room in accompaniment to the Christmas tree lights.
Now extinguished candles on one of the side tables had added the wonderful smell of a cinnamon - a smell they both remembered from Christmases past.
Soft and measured breathing told him that Greg had fallen asleep, Nick thought about what the morning would bring.
Greg would surely wake first and then wake Nick as he would not be able to contain his excitement.
They would share they tray of already-baked Christmas cookies with cocoa, instead of coffee.
Presents would be opened, ‘Thank You’s would be said, and families and friends would be called to wish all the best for the Christmas season.
Nick yawned and wrapped his arms a little tighter around Greg’s chest, snuggling back into overly-soft couch, Nick closed his eyes and let himself finally fall asleep.
