Summary: Don finally sees what Charlie sees.
“We can’t!”
“Damn it! Why not? I love you, doesn’t that matter?”
“Of course it matters. We’ve been over this!”
The sound of a fist hitting a wall echoed through the house.
Quiet footsteps soon followed and the lonely sound of the door opening and then closing seemed to end all arguments.
Don hung his head...why did this happen?
Charlie walked slowly, heading for the school, he needed to walk, he need to get to the numbers.
Don went to the den, damn, Charlie had left his own house.
He looked around and saw pictures of...them.
They looked happy together, he was, he was happy with Charlie, he loved Charlie.
Don froze.
That was it. That was all that should matter.
Don grabbed his keys and ran out of the house.
It was raining.
Of course it was raining.
Don ran after Charlie, he would head for the school, for the safety of numbers.
He spotted another person walking, a little bit ahead of him.
“Charlie!”
The figure stopped.
It was Charlie.
Don ran faster until he got to Charlie.
He stopped right behind him, “Charlie?”
Charlie turned and, even in the rain, Don could tell he’d been crying.
Don reached out and held onto Charlie by his shoulders.
“Charlie, please forgive me. I was wrong, I was so wrong. I don’t care. I love you.”
Charlie looked up at Don, his eyes wide and a small smile starting to show.
He broke Don’s grasp and leaned in and kissed Don, wrapping his arms around Don’s neck.
Don pulled Charlie tight and held him close as they kissed.
Gently breaking apart, a rain-soaked Charlie looked at Don, ”Promise?”
Don smiled, resting his forehead against Charlie’s. “Forever promise, Charlie.”
They both smiled as Don leaned in and captured Charlie’s lips in another kiss.
The rain didn’t seem to matter now.
