Summary: Greg thinks about Nick after he has been rescued from the coffin.
I arrived late in the evening.
I saw Catherine and Warrick in his room. I walked over to the bed; startling them both out of their silent thoughts. Catherine turned and wrapped her arms around me, no sounds escaped her, but I knew her well enough to know she was crying. As I held Catherine, I glanced over at Warrick; he made a point of smiling, even though a weak and troubled smile it was.
Warrick has been through the wringer as well, his guilt making sure of that; but he would deal with this on his own time, not out in the open where it left him open and exposed.
Warrick gathered a slightly-composed Catherine from my arms and helped her out of the room. He nodded as he left, silently asking if I was alright, I nodded back and watched as he and Catherine vanished out the door.
I turned my attention to Nick, he looked like he had come back from Hell. I’m sure that he thought that was exactly what it was while he was trapped.
Any lesser person would probably have pulled the trigger and ended his misery.
Nick was strong like that, I had told him that that was one thing that I loved about him.
I finally couldn’t keep the tears back and I felt them trickle down my cheeks, my emotions no longer hidden.
Funny thing was, Nick told me I was strong like that too. But, had it been me, I know I wouldn’t have made it.
But, Nick did.
