Ushas sat at the very edge of the steps leading in to the Academy, staring off into the horizon blankly. She hadn't really known what to expect from the first mission, but it certainly hadn't been that. The destruction of an entire planet. It happened of course, planets simply died of old age often but the way Vulcan had been destroyed, that was something else, something so completely pointless. An eye for an eye, a planet for a planet. It made her sick. Part of her wanted to go and find Commander Spock, to see how he was, but she was fairly confident people closer to him would be keeping an eye on him and she didn't want to intrude. She couldn't imagine what it was like for him. Losing his planet and nearly all of the people on it. She would go and offer her services soon, offer to research possible planets with an appropriate atmosphere and the like to possibly rebuild Vulcan. She would do anything they needed her to, because she'd felt completely useless aboard the Enterprise and she'd hated that feeling. She knew her talents would be of better use for more exploratory missions, ones where she could use her knowledge of different species biology and experimental techniques to learn about new planets for the Federation. And yet she couldn't find it in her hearts to request a transfer. She'd been delighted when she'd discovered she had been assigned to the same starship as Pavel Chekov and the idea of serving on another did not appeal in the slightest. Even if they were stationed on different parts of the ship it was still better than nothing. She knew there was every chance they'd still run into each other and that meant a lot to her. Still she was sure not all missions would be like this one had been, at least she hoped not. She would wait and see what happened, she was bound to become more involved in time.
