Sinclair's frustration seeps out of him; in its place he finds a tired sadness caked in dusty, depressing memories. It's hard to watch someone hurting when you're trying your best to help them. He didn't anticipate being so useless.
"Maybe it doesn't have to be that way for you, though," he says. "People live together in all kinds of ways. You said you wanted to talk to him. I still think that's what you should do."
