“I come here in February — it's so cold in this country. I thought, I'd go to California, I, um... I don't know it was so far.” Born and raised in a country where you can drive from one side to the other in the same day, then wandering around a continent where you only have to drive an hour to be in a city where everyone speaks an entirely different language, Wolfgang was shocked to find there are places where you can drive all day and not even have left the state. And that bus tickets from one side to the other are exorbitantly expensive.
Thank God it warmed up. It's actually not so bad sleeping outdoors this time of year, if you can find a spot that's secluded and where cops don't prowl around. Sometimes they leave Wolfgang alone because they see a white guy, but sometimes they don't because they see a girl.
They look down at their hands. “And, um... it's so expensive.” Christ, New York is expensive. Wolfgang feels like they're being robbed every time they buy a sandwich.
