“Okay,” Michael says, smiling a little again and kissing her forehead. Lee likes to recommend books to him. Sometimes he needs to discuss them a lot with her to help him understand them, but he learns a lot. A handful have become favorites.
He thinks about the rest of what Lee said. “I don't think God has anything to do with what kind of people we are, or become,” he replies, “but bodies are material like anything else, so God is there, in the molecules. I think God might exist between certain people. Mainly I see it as being about creation and repair. Drawing a picture is something of God. Making something from nothing. It's why space is so beautiful, it's totally empty. It could turn into anything, just like it turned into Earth.”
He pauses before admitting, “For a while I thought He might be the aliens.”
