The Lycan Children's Home was housed in the lower floors of the Imperial Palace hotel. It was closer to the Sanguine's doorstep than Nikolai would have liked, and he had no doubt that the arrangement was entirely deliberate, but he supposed he should be thankful that the king leeches' attitude towards the place seemed to be one of benign neglect. As far as he knew, the Home was pretty much autonomous, not operating under the auspices of the Sanguine or the Davis Pack, and he had to say he approved there. Neither was an attractive option.
The woman who ran it - Cora somebody-or-other - he knew almost nothing about besides that she was a werewolf, but that told him enough. His darling Marie was a wolf. His mother was a wolf. He knew the mettle of a wolf-bitch. Only a fool would put himself between a mother wolf and her pups.
It was with that bit of wisdom firmly in mind that Nikolai approached the Lycan Children's Home. He entered the lobby of the Imperial Palace and, rather than go wandering in uninvited, he waited. He was the only one in the wide empty space, and highly conspicuous. Deliberately so. He sat down in one of the available chairs and folded his hands complacently in his lap, doing his best to look at once utterly harmless and also far too interesting to ignore.
