She noticed the canine quality as he tilted his head and had to chuckle a little. It was rather funny. She nodded when he spoke of the Chancellor. "It might have something to do with you both being wolves, but he's also the Alpha of the city, so he's kind of that way with everyone. At least, everyone who accepts him as their Alpha. Not everyone does. He can be mean, though. His family... his pack, they kinda get the short end of the deal around him. Nothing is really good enough, you know?" She didn't explain how she knew this. It was just something she'd observed in the way his youngest brother and one of his sisters acted.
"Just pay your dues and he'll be good to you." She grinned and took another sip of her second beer. "Construction is good. We get lots of new shops and businesses in here as people come and go. Lots of remodeling to do. Not a whole lot of new construction. Mostly renovations and such. I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding work." She was glad he knew what he was doing. A lot of people found that post-meteor work was completely different from what they used to do. Actors, models, and sports players weren't exactly in demand.
She shrugged. "Angus just knows who my boss is. Commander Whittier's got this gift. He can make anyone do anything he says. It's pretty creepy, but it comes in pretty handy. Angus and his pal wouldn't want to deal with him, so when they see me coming, they shape up. It doesn't have a whole lot to do with me, you see." She gave him a half smile and took another drink of her beer. She chuckled and almost choked when his brain caught up to his mouth.
She nodded. "Don't worry. I'm not really taking anything you say personally at this point. You're having way too good a time to be tossing around disrespect and insults. Don't worry about apologizing." She grinned and polished off her second beer, pushing the empty glass toward the end of the table. "How about another, huh?"
