Skyler knew some stuff about Cheyenne. But she kept a lot of things bottled up tight, as if talking about them might make them happen all over again. He knew she didn't have any female children because her brother/mate had killed them all. Sky didn't know the details on the whys and hows, but he hoped that Cheyenne would know deep down that he would never do anything like that to his own kin. "You don't have anything to be superstitious about anymore, Ryder." He gave her a nudge to her hip. Her naked hip. She was undressed and he was still fully clothed. He had a hard time figuring out why that was.
He stood up and pulled off the clothes he'd hastily yanked on earlier. He climbed back onto the bed underneath the covers and sidled up to her, as if he could be sneaky about it. She asked him point blank why he didn't have any pups and in all truthfulness, Sky didn't have an answer. "Just never the right time, I guess. I've just never been able to settle down and have a family. Never had a mate." He shrugged. Oh, he had taken plenty of women into his bed, but he'd never given them a belly full of pups. Mostly because they were one-night stands and not worthy of carrying the Davis line. And Lillith. They'd never gotten married, and he wasn't sure she would have been ready for pups until they were.
He tugged her close and shifted his weight so he lay partially on top of her, though he was conscientious about her protruding stomach. "And please, stop with the compliments, my ego can't take it." He teased her. But he was also a little surprised to hear her say anything even remotely positive to his face. She'd been calming down now that they were cohabiting, but they both still had their pride.
