I liked it pretty well! And I'll probably watch it again with Kate (who's never read the books), but so far it hasn't really won my heart. Which is totally fair, because first episodes are always iffy for me, and understandably hellbent on establishing the characters and the situation, and this one definitely touched bases with everyone worth, er, touching. It's also amazingly difficult to construct an entire fantasy world/set on a TV show budget though, even the kind HBO provides (which is why, I think, GRRM turned to writing fantasy novels in the first place actually), so those moments of weird green screen issues were a little unfortunate. Even Dany herself, at certain times, looked weirdly overproduced. TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE but at the same time, my heart went out to 'em.
ANYWAY: I sort of love the casting on Jaime a lot. And the costumes were all pretty rad, particularly all the furs and heavy dresses up in Winterfell. My favourite so far is probably Arya, who I'm finding more immediately charming than I did in the books (it took me awhile to warm to her, I admit). ... also Joffrey what's up with your head.
So in the end: I am cautiously optimistic! I like the books a lot, but I'm not a die-hard fan, so I'm pretty easygoing with most of this stuff and it won't kill me if it's not TOTALLY ACCURATE so long as it manages to tell a good story in its own right as a different medium. And if it doesn't, well, it won't kill me to just not watch. RAMBLING OVER.
