Maybe it hadn't been impressive, but she had written something and Midori had considered that an accomplishment until he had erased her progress. "I wasn't done yet," she insisted sulkily, would have written at the top eventually and filled in around. But now she had to start over, which wasn't particularly encouraging.
Snatching the notebook back, feeling self-conscious about anybody touching her belongings, Midori pressed her pen to the top line of the page.
'Writing about some animal. My favourite animals aren't fish, but ones that are extinct. Dead animals like dinosaurs. Or the dodo birds, and maybe soon polar bears. Polar bears live in the cold and the planet isn't very cold anymore because of cows I guess, so soon they will die or maybe they should be shaved for summer. I should shave my dog for summer, but I don't think he'd like it.'
Staring at how much she'd already written, Midori felt that was enough and passed the book back over for his inspection.
