"What?" Mitch responded immediately, really not believing what she had just said after everything that had happened between them. But then again, he could perhaps understand it after he had made her think that he was gone for good once already. She was actually holding up his entire world and there was a chance she didn't know quite how much. She meant everything to him, both good and bad. He supposed, then, that whatever she was doing to get what she wanted was very effective.
So that she didn't get too many ideas from the action, he momentarily turned his attention back to the cookies, wondering if he should help himself to another. However, it was probably best to save the rest for at least after dinner. He didn't need to start turning into a stress eater, even if the idea didn't sound particularly bad. Especially when he finally knew what he had to say. His steps slowed to another halt. "If that's the way it is, then know that if I'm not leaving you, I'm really not leaving you. It's not going to be easy," he started, feeling a little uncomfortable saying it, but knowing that it was a decision he would cling to. He had always been a determined person and, with the exception of his separation from her, he never went back on what he had already set his mind to.
"I'm not always going to like it, so if I leave you're supposed to come after me." It wasn't fair to her to say it. In fact, it was probably dangerous for him to say it. However, he always expected no less of her than he did himself. It really wasn't going to be easy.
