Halloween has most definitely changed a lot since my time.

I'm not complaining. I actually enjoy the freedom of expression and let's face it, the candy is at least twenty times better. It just takes getting used to.

But hey, when the god of thunder offers you candy at work, you don't say no.

Sounds a bit like Hallowtide, that name. Shall I be expecting a smattering of fires about?

Similar in origin, if I'm remembering correctly. We'll just say it's evolved over the years. A lot. Now it involves dressing up as a 'superhero' or maybe a 'princess' (fictional, is apparently best) and asking strangers for candy. Not sure on the fires. Festivals in general during the autumn and winter months have bonfires often enough but I don't think they're typically Halloween related.

We didn't do it my first year but it's been twice since then, one here and one at home. I guess it's different not having something to compare it to though. It's sort of silly but fun.

Oh, I'd imagine there's definitely a difference between never having one and just having a very old-fashioned one. But as long as everyone's having fun, isn't that what's important?

At home I get most of my history from Stephen talking about how different things were in his day, and I'm pretty sure he's exaggerating to make fun most of the time because he does it more when there's a lot of people around.

The amount of thought put into the costumes reminds me of our Harvest Moon celebration at home.

Some are incredibly clever and well planned.

And some apparently come from a package. The ones with the plastic masks are the most terrifying, even when they're not actually meant to be scary. It's an odd twist I did not plan for.

Shall we protect you from these terrifying 'plastic' masks?

I may need a skilled swordswoman. Or perhaps magic. Though 'witches' are also on the list of approved costumes. They don't dress like any witches I've ever heard of, though.

Lucky for you this realm is not in short supply of swordsmen or witches. As for their attire, I am unfamiliar with the majority of them.

You're probably in luck in that case. Comparatively speaking, it's very different than what I grew up on, and I'm from a world not that different from this.

I don't know. You don't get much better than the Abba Zabba or Mary Janes.

You got me curious so I had to go looking and apparently you can still get Mary Janes. I think Abba Zabba was still after my time.

But I am growing eerily fond of these Twix bars.

Yeah? I'll have to look into that. There's bound to be somewhere around here to get Abba Zabbas too. They can be an acquired taste to some, but if you like taffy then you'd like them.

I've seen them around, but I haven't tried one of those yet.
