It's in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.

I didn't even have to eat mine for the vision to appear.

BUFFY
You said before that you were given some memories from the future. How far?

Then you're like every other poor sap you doesn't get the manual.

At this point I think I'd rather go at life on the fly anyway.

Less expectation, less people saying you've gotta save everyone. Ignorance is bliss.

I probably do that too much already on my own.

Which part, the expectations or saving everyone? Or being ignorant?

Expectations on myself to save everyone. Though that's significantly less here due to our circumstances.

I suppose saviour complexes are going around. Can't say I miss that entirely. More than enough saviours around here with nothing to do.

Yeah, there are a lot more here than I'm used to from home. Mine's more of a 'make up for a shit past' brand of hero complex. Now that I'm here it's mostly shifted into 'don't be a shit.'

I'm enjoying my era of 'be a shit'. It's a nice break from 'solve everyone else's problems'.

My 'be a shit' phases usually ends with a lot of dead bodies, pissed off witches, and maybe an apocalypse if I'm feeling motivated. The clarity in those moments can freeing though.

Was there something that brought on you hanging up your hero shoes or did you just have enough after a while?

Well, you are ambitious when encouraged, aren't you. Pissed off witches are usually a bad thing though.

It wasn't so much a choice. Curse. But in the same vein, there's something almost relieving about not having to deal with everyone and all their issues.

Depending on perspective, they don't usually work out in my favor.

A curse. I'm familiar with those, but mine has the opposite effect than what yours sounds like. Do you prefer to live with it?

I've had my share of animated conversations with a pissed off witch. She likes fireballs.

Ah, dark to light, somewhat poetic. Depends. When I'm myself, I prefer to be myself. When I'm this, I prefer to be this. Perspective, I guess.

If she shows up, I'd appreciate a heads up. I'll make sure to be on my best behavior around her to keep from pissing her off.

I understand that; my alter ego and I feel the same anytime one of us is in the driver's seat.

Regina's a complex duck. You really need to push her buttons to get a reaction these days. I just happen to push her buttons by existing.

There's something to control, I suppose. Who wants to give that up? So the making up for past shit, that's you trying to fix your alter-ego's actions?

I have one of those. To be fair, we push each other's buttons by existing, curse or no curse. I'll be on the lookout for a witch that goes by Regina.

Yeah, that's pretty much how it goes. He likes to leave a lot of destruction in his wake.

If you see her boobs before you see anything else? She's evil and you should stay away. You'll know her by the very elaborate hair.

Don't we always? Think you'll ever be finished making up for it?

The hair and breasts make that much of an impression, huh?

No, but I think that's the point.

The biggest impression. It's like she grew up wanting to be a drag queen, without knowing what a drag queen was.

Guilt if a powerful tool. But then if you can never make up for it, won't you get disillusioned trying?

At least she'll be hard to miss that way.

At some point, probably. There's no prize at the end of the redemption rainbow,so guilt and making up for what I've done can't be the only motivation. Some days it is, but not always.

Oh so hard.

Who says there's no prize? Where I'm from, everyone is guaranteed a happy ending. No matter what they've done. Maybe it's not a big prize, but it could be something smaller?

Guarantees of happy endings don't exist in my world. Some get one more than others; some not at all. For me, they're better as small, silver lining kind of moments.
