It's mostly just when it comes up in conversation. But normally that's more like "my parents were weird cultists who raised me in a castle in Eastern Europe" than "I nearly became an Elder God and took over the world".

Mostly when you feel comfortable.

The misconception that all cards have to be on the table at the very start is common, but truthfully, it's very situational. You can really share as much or as little as you want, with or without context, and that would be just fine.

Try not focus on it. Build something new and if you feel okay about letting out bits, tell them one at a time.

But, as an encouragement, friends tend to be the forgiving sort. Even if it causes a small bump, you might be pleasantly surprised.

It would depend on the details. Is it still affecting you now, and do you believe it would make a significant difference in how she views you? As someone else asked, how close of friends are you? Some things, whether good or bad, affect who you are so much that they ought to be shared, and sometimes who you are now simply overshadows who you were.

At home my mistakes were too common knowledge to hide, so explanations weren't needed, just the demonstration of who I am now.
