Rule of Horror #81: Always ask why the house is being sold so cheap.

I'd consider $200 rent falling into that category, which puts us potentially in the supernatural sub-genre, particularly the sub-sub-genre dealing with entities rather than creatures. Among the surprisingly short list of paranormal horror films set in New York City is Rosemary's Baby, Dark Water, and the Devil's Advocate, as well as Dario Argento's 1980 cult classic Inferno which, due to its connections to Suspiria and the not-really-a-twist ending, could also be considered paranormal.

So here are my questions: Has anyone checked the water tank and has anyone found any strange old books written in Italian yet?

You make a fair point. But even hope can't protect you from Cenobites.

what about necromancy? this book might come in handy against whatever those cenobite things are.

Y'know, the function of the magic is never really discussed, so I don't know if necromancy would help or hurt, but I do know that there's one box that summons them, one box that sends them back, and a whole bunch of fake boxes so you never know which one you have. Though there's something or other about the pure of heart being immune to them, but that's usually the case with stories like this.

that seems like a pretty important thing to leave out. boxes sure yeah but not having any detailed information on ho the magic works is kinda stupid. very hand wave it away and it is because it is. yeah some things are because they are but that doesnt mean thats a good explanash explanation. and is anyone ever really pure of heart? babies dont count.

I don't disagree. It's a huge plothole in the lore. But there's something or other about opening a schism to another dimension which lets the creatures through to do their business. How it works isn't so important in the story as what it does when it works.

And sure, I think there are people who are pure of heart. It doesn't necessarily mean being totally unblemished and perfect, it just means being brave and honest and looking out for other people. Genuinely caring. That's pretty rare too, though.

Y'know... we might be. We just might be the ones brought through the schism. I think you're onto something there.

I've met one or two.

It doesn't feel like we're the bad guys. But maybe the one who opened up the box is. Trope subversion is really big right now.

One is, definitely. The other one... jury's still out on that. But that's the thing about final girls. Once you become one, you have plot armor. So nothing can touch you anymore. You just have to own being the final girl. You have to pick up the knife. You have to stand and fight instead of running. That's the mark of survival.

i dont think you have to feel like a bad guy to be the bad guy in someone elses story. and maybe that pithos opener is.

by that definition interesting obsurvashu observation.
