WHO: Lily Luna Potter & Hermione Granger
WHERE: Their Flat
WHEN: Saturday Evening
WARNINGS: None
SPOILERS? Lily finally meets her roommate, and learns she's her very young aunt.

Lily sat in the kitchen, her feet on the seat under her and her knees pressed against the edge of the table, and absently doodled in the margins of her recipe book. She wished she had her old school book, too, because she couldn't remember what measurements she'd deviated from to get her particular Pepper Up Potion. She didn't need the original to make her version, but it was a better puzzle for her brain than the existential questions she had about her family.

Her uncles knew she was related to the Weasleys. Bill knew her parents, but George didn't, and neither did her godmother or Remus or Sirius. She hadn't met Lily and James yet, and she didn't jump in when Hugo and the others revealed their heritage with Granny Molly. Her parents weren't there, so keeping them to herself was easy. Though she'd only been in Goodland for a short time, she could imagine what Hugo and Dominique went through with their parents. It was difficult not having people she loved not know her, but to have her parents do the same?

The sound of the door opening mercifully pulled her out of her thoughts. "Hi roomie," she called out, unfolding from her seat and moving to the stove to check that the stew she'd made was still hot. "I made my gran's stew if you're hungry. I kind of owe you for the bread I used to make toast before my things arrived."

Lily nodded, lifting her eyes to her (very young) aunt's face. "But you're not my mum! Like. I'm sure it's safe to tell you that you did not push me out of anywhere. But I do know you." She hoped, with those clues, Hermione might be able to figure out who Lily's parents were without having to be told. She thought if people--outside of Bill--who didn't remember her figured things out by themselves based on hints she dropped, they might take to it better. It was like if she wanted a boy to do something, she would let them think it was their idea, and they did it faster and better.

Manipulation at it's finest, but it was innocent and hopefully helpful and she meant well. "You, too. I'm working really hard not to just blurt things out, and I don't want you to feel guilty about something you can't control, but it is nice to meet this you." Lily smiled and moved to resume her seat at the table. "The stew is my Gran's recipe. She makes it better."

Hermione had to laugh softly. "Well, that is a relief because I am not sure my brain can handle processing another child of mine at the moment." It wasn't so much the fact that she had kids, she had always wanted to have them, but it was trying to fill in the gaps of how she got from where she was to that point. It made her head hurt trying to think of it. At nineteen, she certainly had never given any serious thoughts to kids. Mostly she had thought about returning to Hogwarts and her immediate future following the war.

"Blurt out whatever, the truth always comes out any way." Hermione had come to the conclusion it was only a matter of time around there. "I promise I can handle it." If she could handle hunting and destroying Horcruxes and Voldermort, she could handle insights to the future. At least there was a future and that was the most reassuring to her.

She thought about Lily's words a moment because surely she meant Molly and that meant... Hermione had to laugh. "Okay, how did Harry get naming rights because I would have bet he'd lose that battle."

"It's weird being older than my cousins and pseudo-brother, and some of my other relations. I can imagine what it might be like to have kids but not have kids." She picked up her pen and began doodling again. It was something to keep her hands busy and focus her thoughts and stop her from rambling. Again.

She almost did blurt, but Hermione got to the point first and saved her from it. She beamed at her aunt, he eyes misting over. "You're my aunt. Use that information in whatever way you need to, but you're my aunt, and I knew you would figure it out. But don't worry! I'm excited to know you as you right now, and I don't want you to think you have to live up to anything, any future you. I get to know you now, and that's really cool." Lily bounced in her seat a little, suppressing the urge to get up and hug her. There were only so many lines she was willing to cross at once.

"I think Mum was high on pain potions. My name is leaps and bounds better than the boys', because I got his mum and Luna and also Remus. To be fair, James' name isn't bad, but Albus Severus? I have no idea what Dad was thinking."

"Are you typically younger than the lot of them?" Hermione asked realizing she didn't know much about the world they came from. Sure she could make certain connections and assumptions, but there wasn't any being certain. "It's odd for sure, but kind of nice to know considering there was a time none of us thought we would be able to have children." With a war you never knew if you were going to live that long.

Hermione gave Lily a smile. She was happy to go with knowing each other as they were now. It was all they could do and it was a little different than getting to know someone that was supposed to be your child. "And because I am your aunt I can spoil you and let you get away with more than I should. Then again, the things your father got away with, he should never yell at you for anything." She joked with a laugh.

"He was thinking of a pair of two brave men, but I am not sure that was the best way to honor them." The names together were a bit of a nameful, but that wasn't her decision to make. "So there are three of you? I am going to assume there is a whole lot of you kids. Molly must love it."

Lily nodded. "I'm younger than all of them, except for Hugo, but he's barely the baby, and now I'm older than Dominique and Teddy." She didn't know if Hermione knew about Rose, so she would only mention the cousins who were already here. "I've always been a bit bossy and assertive, though, so being older than my older cousins isn't actually terrible. Because I can take care of them the way they took care of me, and that's kind of nice." She considered the war for a moment. It was in their history books, and she grew up with the war heroes, so she was almost desensitized to it. But she could understand what Hermione meant. "Well. You won, and you all worked hard to make things better, and Hugo and I are proof of that."

Laughing, Lily stood and moved to put on the kettle. "Honestly? You're a lot to live up to. I mean. Not just you, but all of you. I was sorted into Slytherin, and I swear I saw people clutch mental pearls when that happened. But, like. I wanted to be as smart as you and as brave as Dad and as badass as Mum, and I wanted to be nothing like anyone so I could just be me." She smiled fondly at Hermione. "But I wouldn't change my family for anyone, especially since that's not the first time you've made that argument with Dad."

With two cups of tea in hand, she returned to the table. "I suppose," she replied dubiously. "There are a lot of us, and I like to think that Gran thrives in the chaos. I know granddad loves the noise and the fact that a lot of us know more about Muggle things."

Studying her aunt over her cup, she could see the telltale signs of fatigue and the faint line of concentration between her brows. "How are you? Hugo said you're nineteen, so that means it's only been a year since everything? Less fresh than for George, but still there. Are you taking care of yourself?"

Hermione nodded because it was all she could do. Admittedly, it was a lot to keep up with who was who. She already know who most of the people were that appeared there, but the ones from later, it was still a lot to process. Still she could see a lot of their parents and herself in Hugo’s case, looking back at her. The War has been hard, rebuilding just as hard, but it all has been worth it. That fact quelled a lot of uncertainty in her heart.

Hermione had to laugh because there were a lot of days Harry has sworn up and down how much he hated their rivals, Slytherins. Yet, she was sure the times had chanced his views on the House. The War has opened a lot of their eyes on their narrow minded views they held as children. “From what I met of you, I am sure you managed to accomplish all of the aforementioned.” She offered Lily a smile of reassurance.

For a long moment, Hermione sipped her tea in silence. “I have been here nearly six months so... I guess it has been almost a year. I turned nineteen here... back home, it had been a few months.” Four to be exact. Sometimes those four months felt like years and others just days. The funerals and mourning had felt like a rain cloud that had followed them around for a while. Rebuilding had given them all something to do. Hogwarts has suffered so much damage and blood spill it had broken her heart. When she has woken up that morning expecting to head to Kingscross (only to find herself in Goodland) she had wondered if she could do it. Part of her had always known Harry and Ron wouldn’t go back. Not because they felt they out grew school, which was probably true, but Hogwarts harbored a lot of painful memories for them all. Hermione wasn’t sure she could walk into the Great Hall without crying. Nearly an entire school worth of children would know that year what the thestrals really looked like.

“I am okay,” she told Lily as she pushed those thoughts from her mind. Worrying was not going to help their situation. “I get along well enough and the library keeps me busy.” Still a lot of days she wished Harry and Ron were there.
