Who: Scott McCall and Stiles Stilinski
Where: Meeting in the Lobby and exploring
When: Just after Scott arrives
What: Catching up and exploring
Status: Complete

Scott was still reeling from his initial arrival in Goodland, which was a lot to take in. Friendly entities and future-roommates and all, it was going to make for an interesting time. Initially he’d felt lost but the moment he saw Stiles was here too he had a feeling everything was going to be okay. Well, it might not exactly be okay, but Scott would have his best friend around to deal with whatever this world threw at him and that made everything easier.

A few minutes later he was heading downstairs to meet Stiles in the hopes of finding more out about this place and taking a peek around. When he’d arrived he’d concentrated of finding the apartment block so that he had a base to explore from. Now he had a base and a Stiles, which was more than he could have hoped.

He greeted his friend with their customary handshake and gave him a bear-hug that showed Stiles how relieved he was to see him. “And so another chapter begins…” Scott said as he pulled away and grinned. “So, tell me everything that’s happened since you got here and then tell me where we’re gonna go.” As disconcerted as he might be by the whole experience, there was no getting away from the fact that it was all exciting. New, too, which meant there was fun to be had somewhere.

Stiles was thrilled that Scott was here. It meant that he didn't have to deal with any of this alone anymore. Sure Cisco was cool and he had talked to STark quite a few times, but they weren't people who were close to him. They weren't from his world. Scott was.

He quickly made his way down to the lobby and over to Scott the moment he saw him. "A strange chapter," he added as he pulled away from the hug. "Not much to really report. People keep getting pulled here. Nothing else weird has happened." He knew that wouldn't last, though. People show up was just the first wave of weird. He knew there would be a next wave. It was just a matter of when it was going to hit.

He could tell from the greeting that Stiles had missed having someone to share all of the madness with and Scott would have felt just as lost if he'd arrived first. "So how many people are we talking about here?" he asked, seeing as his friend wasn't going to hurry him out of the door to his favourite restaurant and feed him. "Maybe the Entity, or whatever it's calling itself, wants us to chill out and relax before it opens the flood gates on us all?" he suggested with a wry smirk. "I mean, that's the usual pattern, right? The quiet before the storm and then BOOM someone rumbles in to tear your town apart." He gave Stiles a gentle push towards the doors, "now show me around already."

"Well past the thirty mark," he told Scott. He really hadn't been keeping that close of an eye on how many people were brought here. But it was definitely more than thirty people in this place now. "That's exactly what I was thinking. And it probably needs a certain amount of here to do whatever it is plotting to do next." It wasn't like they really knew. No one did. But they could only really go off of what they've experienced back home. "Okay, okay, Pushy," he said as he led the way outside and to the right.

He frowned when Stiles told him how full the building already was, giving a distinct uneasy glance up towards the stairs. "That's a lot," Scott said after a moment's contemplation, giving a slightly worried look his friend's way. "Why do I get the feeling this place is going to be like a lightening rod for pretty much anything else that wants to come through?" he murmured with a shake of his head. Scott gave him another soft push, "yeah, I am. What of it?" he asked with a grin before settling into step with his friend. "So, this thing give you guys any more information than was on the paper? Or is this is a make it up as we go along kinda deal?" he asked, curious to know how the other people were fairing along the way.

"Yeah," he said with a nod, "it is." And he was pretty sure more people were going to get pulled here. "Because we're all here when we really don't belong here," he pointed out. Stiles glared at Scott before playfully pushing him back. If he was going to be pushy, then Stiles was going to be pushy right back. "Nope. That piece of paper is all that's been said. We've all just been doing whatever we want. People have even been getting jobs already."

"And it's only been a little over a week. Imagine how many people could be here by the end of a month," Scott said in disbelief. He was sure Stiles was already doing the math in his head and didn't need his help but it was out there now and however exciting it was to be here (with a future-roommate and a now-time Stiles) there was a good part of him that started to dread what might happen next. His friend snapped him out of his thoughts a little with his playing around but the more Scott thought about the whole thing the more it worried him.

"Wait up," he said drawing to a speedy halt when the words registered. "We need jobs?" Scott shook his head, "we get stolen away and stored in an effective Entity-petting-zoo and the kidnapper makes us work too? Why is this seeming kinda unfair about now?" He looked at Stiles and asked, "are you working?"

"Too many." There were already a lot of people in the apartment complex. He could only imagine how many more people were going to get nabbed from their homes and dropped into this place.

He kept on walking and only stopped when he noticed that Scott had decided to quit talking. he stopped and turned around so that he could face Scott. "Yes, we need jobs," he replied. "Uh huh," was all he said to the rest of what Scott was saying. "No, because I don't know what to do yet." He knew he couldn't keep screwing around either since he didn't have a lot of cash on him in the first place.

He gave a nod of his head. Too many was pretty much the answer he'd come up with too and it was a lot to take in. Maybe more than Scott had bargained for. "How the hell are you taking this in your stride, Stiles?" he asked with a frown, "cause I know you've had a head-start, but this whole thing looks pretty crazy from where I'm sitting."

As for a job, what it the hell was Scott actually trained to do, other than clean up after animals or yell at kids to run laps? "We are so screwed," he said with a roll of his eyes. "We're going to end up with matching name-badges, aren't we?" he said looking Stiles' way. "I should practice my 'do you want fries with that?' and make sure to 'have a nice day!' everyone I meet, cause I'm going to be doing a lot of it." There had to be a bright side somewhere and Stiles better bring it on real fast!

Stiles shrugged. "I don't know. I guess freaking out isn't going to do me or anyone else any good." So, he was just taking it one day at a time since there really was nothing else he could do. "I guess you don't want to hear that we can't leave the city, huh?"

He nodded in agreement. They were screwed. "I'm not working at some fast food place. There has to be a way for us to do the same thing that we were doing back at home."

Maybe Stiles had the right approach, only Scott's instinct to freak out was pretty well up there in his go-to list of emotions right now. "We can't leave?" He looked around himself and seeing nothing but city blocks for as far as the eye could see. "What happens if we try?" because his next reaction was to test the theory. Scott couldn't imagine how a whole city could be barricaded in - but then he wouldn't have thought any of this possible until today.

"At least you like food," he said by way of concession. "Maybe we should look more towards movie theaters so you can get your sugar fix?" Scott had to tease a little, it was the only thing that would keep him sane in this utterly crazy world. "You think you can still train for the FBI here?" he was curious if Stiles had actually looked into it. "Which would put me right back in the locker rooms, huh? That'll keep me out of trouble," he said with a small smile.

Stiles shrugged. "I don't know. I haven't tried." He was pretty much going off of what other people had said over the network.

"Yeah, I like to eat food. I don't want to serve it," he told Scott. "Oh, because that sounds smart." He could already imagine them getting fired within a week. "I don't know. I'm hoping that I can. I don't want to start over. I don't want to do something else. I want to continue doing what I was doing." He shrugged again. "I guess that depends. Is that what you really want to do? Or do you want to actually become a vet?"

Well that was definitely something they were going to have to prove or disprove for themselves, Scott thought as he looked Stiles' way and raised an eyebrow in challenge. "Since when do you believe what other people tell you?" he asked. "I mean, if there were a fence there'd be pictures, wouldn't there?" And if anyone had died trying to get out there'd be news of that too. So, they had to try it. Maybe not right now, but at some point.

"When you serve food don't you get to pig out on the stuff as much as you want?" Scott asked with a smile. "You get a job and you get to eat without paying," which was a win on both fronts. As for the movie theatre, Stiles may have a point too. "At least it would be a memorable week?" Scott said mischievously, "with a lotta movies, which would be a bonus to the sugar." Not profitable in the long-term, though, which was the point of the whole exercise.

Scott understood why Stiles would want to pick up where he left off. He had a pretty good idea what he wanted to do with his life. "Then you should go for it any way you can," he said with a supportive nod. "Let's be honest here, you're kinda made for the job." As to his own career, he'd not put too much thought into it and hadn't much direction. "I'm not sure I know what I want, other than to find something to support me till I get done with college," Scott said. "Maybe down the line that's the approach I'll take, but I have to qualify first," and that would take time and money.

Okay, so Scott had a point. Stiles didn't always believe what people said. He had to see it for himself. But there was the fact that if they could leave, he was pretty sure people would be doing that and no one seemed to be doing it. "I think we might be an island, no fence needed." He wasn't totally sure about it.

"You still have to pay," he pointed out. "A week? We probably wouldn't get past day two."

Stiles started to walk again. "I'm going to." If he couldn't continue to do the whole FBI thing, he had no idea what he was going to do. "You don't want to do the vet thing anymore?" He figured Scott would just do the vet assistant thing again and do classes but it didn't sound like that coming from Scott.

"Even if there's no fence there are boats and ferries and planes," Scott pointed out. Also bridges and tunnels, but that would depend what else about this New York was different to their own. "Are we the only ones that can't leave or does it apply to everyone? You gotta have questions, Stiles," cause he knew he had a ton of his own.

Well damn. "Always figured they threw the food in as a bonus," Scott answered with a frown. "There goes my dream of life in the service industry!" And it sounded as if movie theatres were out too. "So it'd be a fun two days. Wait. The first day would be fun and the second day would be us cleaning up after the popcorn food-fight, which would be less fun."

Scott gave an approving nod, "it's what you'd built for." As for him, he really didn't know. "This whole thing has spun me for a loop and I just got here," he answered keeping up with Stiles. "What if the syllabus is different here or I'm not good enough to get into the right school? It's what I want to do but whether I get to do it is another matter." It was a lot to deal with and Scott didn't know how he'd juggle paying to live with school in a big city. "It just might not be so easy here, you know?"

"We were brought here for a reason. Do you think thing entity is going to let us leave so easily?" Stiles asked with a glance over at Scott. "When I said we it was a collective we. Not just me and you."

Stiles shook his head. "Aw. You'll have to find a new career path!"

He shrugged. Not like he had the answers. He was just as lost and confused as most of the people here. But he did know one thing for sure. "You're good enough. You were at home and I'm pretty sure you would be here as well." Were things going to be easy or hard here? He had no idea. But things weren't always easy at home, so he was pretty sure they could deal with whatever happened here too. "We'll figure it all out as we go."

Scott let that sink in for a minute, looking at his friend in disbelief. "Okay," he finally answered, "when you put it like that it's even more disturbing and crazy! What possible reason could it have for wanting us here?" he asked, hoping Stiles could shed light on a question that he'd barely had a minute to contemplate. Stiles had been here longer and he knew more, it stood to reason.

He gave a long, drawn-out sigh and shot puppy-eyes Stiles' way. "I'm crushed. How will I ever move on?" he asked.

A frown appeared on Scott's face as he didn't quite know whether Stiles was trying to bolster his self-esteem or if he really believed that. "You know what it's like with schools in big cities," he said with a shrug, "the standards are much higher. Sure, I could get into school in Beacon Hills but New York? Even - Faux York - I don't know." It wasn't a question of hard work, he was more than happy to buckle down if that was needed, it was the general standard that concerned Scott. "So if I need help swatting up, that's an offer of help?" he asked with a smile Stiles' way, because he knew his friend would support him if he could. "Yeah, we'll figure it out," Scott agreed, a little less certainly.

"And that my friend is the million dollar question!" Stiles said with a smack to Scott's back. He didn't know why they were there. Nobody did. And he had a feeling they were never going to know.

"You'll move on when I poke those puppy eyes you're giving me," Stiles joked.

"Are you forgetting that you actually got into UC Davis? If you can do that back at home, you can do something like it here in this weird place." They always figured it out. They did back at home and they would here.

"If I give you an IOU for a million dollars would you tell me the answer?" he asked with a bright smile of hope Stiles' way. If his friend hadn't come up with an answer in a week of being here, there were no answers to be had, Scott knew this.

He backed away a little, "there will be no violence against the Scotty! Not when he's hardly had time to get himself settled," Scott shot back.

"Well, sure I did, but that was back home," he answered, starting to wonder if his concerns about his academic status here were as sound as he'd first thought. "I guess it's all a lot to take on, you know? being here, for one, then finding out we gotta fend for ourselves and all." Not to mention that Scott had struggled to keep his grades up during most of his school career, especially when protecting Beacon Hills had taken up so much of his study-time. "Maybe it's just that it's New York," he said with a shrug at Stiles. "I'm overthinking it."

"No," Stiles replied with a shake of his head.

"Okay, fine, I'll save up the violence for when you're all settled," he jokingly said.

"Which means you can do it here." Stiles understood that arriving here took some time. But he also knew that Scott wasn't stupid. "Well, for one thing, this isn't New York. It just looks like it. We are in Goodland and we have no idea what their standards are. Not that it matters. Because you're not stupid. And yes, you are overthinking it. Now, should I smack you upside your head now or later?"

"Well, it was worth a shot," Scott answered, his smile wilting on his face. "Next time, don't put a price-tag on the answer and I won't offer to match it," he told him with a nudge to the ribs.

Scott pulled out his watch and started glancing from Stiles to the dial, "then I should be ready for you. In... exactly how long does it take to get settled in an alternate reality where some benevolent entity wants to make you happy?" The happiness part he was already skeptical about, particularly given that they had to work to pay their own way.

Maybe Stiles was right and this whole thing was just challenging his confidence right now. "Okay, consider me well and truly pepped, cheer-squad!" Scott said with a smile and a roll of his eyes. "I know I'm not dumb but I also know I'm not smart," or at least not Stiles and Lydia-smart. His was more intuitive intelligence than strings of numbers and letters his brain mopped up like a sponge. "Well I guess I'll try?" Scott said with a nod, "it wouldn't hurt to keep studying for when I get back home and if we have to stay here, at least I'm still doing what I love." Shaking his head he pointed at his watch, "nuh huh, I thought we just decided that there was no violence until I settled in. I'm not settled. Not even nearly," he said giving Stiles a grin.

"Next time don't take it so literally," Stiles said giving Scott a nudge right back.

The watch got Stiles' attention, so he was now looking between the watch and Scott. "I don't know. A few weeks? But I don't think I can hold out that long." He flashed Scott a quick smile.

"Rah-rah-rah!" And now it was Stiles' turn to roll his eyes. "You're smart enough. If you weren't you wouldn't have passed your AP classes that you needed for your whole vet thing." He really hated it when Scott put himself down like that. Scott was smarter than he thought he was and Stiles saw it. "Now that's the spirit!" He glanced at the watch again and rolled his eyes for the second time. "We didn't decide anything." And just for that, Stiles smacked him.

"If you'd said 'Hey Scott, this million dollars is totally figurative and no amount of cash'll get you an answer' maybe I wouldn't have," he said, showing Stiles that he could turn on the smarts when and if he had to prove a point. "I kinda liked the IOU offer," he admitted with a soft chuckle, "and if you were any sort of friend you'd have answered all my questions."

Scott knew that he'd get Stiles' attention with the watch and also get a smile when he'd followed through. "Umm, so how about we set a timer for two-weeks and see where we stand?" he suggested, "seeing as you're so eager to get to the violent part."

He looked down at his hands and nodded, wondering if he'd have gotten through all those classes if he hadn't had a little push here and there from his smart friends. "So if I have to study a lot here, I'll coach until I pass my classes," Scott finally said with a small smile, "and if not I'll find something else to pay myself through school." Mission-vet was back on, thanks to Stiles. "Hey! The watch, man. We agreed!" Scott said with a roll of his eyes, "and you barely lasted five minutes."

"Oh, okay. Next time I will remember that." He gave Scott a playful push. "Hey, I did answer your question to the best of my knowledge. If you're not satisfied, go find somebody else to ask a billion questions to."

He shook his head. "You could, but again, that won't stop me."

He could still see a little bit of doubt, but at least he wasn't totally giving up and doubting what he can and can't do. "Sounds like a good plan to me. "No, I didn't agree with anything!" He smiled. "This is why the watch does not work. Now let's find somewhere to eat. I'm hungry."

"There's always going to be a next time," he said with a chuckle, giving Stiles a quick hug to quell the teasing. "I don't know anyone else, so why would I ask them anything? You are the king of finding things out, so I'll just keep asking you," Scott told his friend with a grin.

Scott was entirely convinced Stiles couldn't and wouldn't stick to the two-week-plan and wasn't even slightly shocked when he lasted only a few minutes. "I've learned to be very relaxed about any and all plans," he told him with a shake of his head. "So, I'm going to be a vet, I guess. It'll take time, but it'll be worth the effort," he said with a smile Stiles' way. He wasn't sure he'd have come to the same place if he hadn't had such support. Sometimes, even when he was kidnapped and in an alternate dimension, he was incredibly lucky.

"You're always hungry," Scott teased, "has it been ten minutes since dinner already?" He wasn't sure which direction to head in for food, but if Stiles had figured out anything here it was where to eat. "Alright, lead on. Feed me!"
