Once upon a time, Kitty had been the poster child for all things Xavier's, but she was no longer the doe-eyed thirteen-year-old that first walked through the Institute's doors. She was ashamed to admit that there was a time where she would have defended the school with every molecule in her body. They were definitely not her proudest moments, but while Kitty did disagree with a great deal that went there? She still found herself missing it sometimes.
It had been months since she had laid her eyes on the school, and she harbored conflicting feelings about the entire situation. She wasn't ready to go back and face any of them, not after the literal mind-fuck that had been Japan, but she knew deep down that was where she was supposed to be. She wasn't too sure they would like the Kitty she was now, though, so Kitty wasn't too keen to return anytime soon.
At least she had John and Rogue here, and John seemed to understand all the things she faulted the Institute for. It was incredibly refreshing since back home, it was either hold all of your complaints in or be chastised for them. No one liked double-edged swords. "Scott doesn't know how to function without the stick up his ass," she said with an arch of her eyebrow and laughed when Lockheed rolled his eyes. "But if he's the same in both of our worlds, I'd bet money he doesn't get any cool variant alter-selves."
