Who: harry and hope
What: untrusting bb pirate and a blanket fort
Where: hope's living room
When: During age plot
Warning: mentions of abuse, untrustful child

He worked quickly to shove shoebox full of trinkets under the couch, trying not to be too noisy. Hope would frown at him for stealing. She had a lot of funny ideas about what he should and shouldn't do, but she wasn't right about everything. Sure, she hadn't hit him once, even read him a book, but she wasn't of the Isle. That meant she didn't know everything. Harry gave a final shove and then moved silently back to the blanket fort. He yanked a thick blanket over himself like a cloak and cracked open the picture book Hope had given him.

He frowned as he reached out to run his fingers over the drawing of a happy family in the book. Two parents. Smiles. His lips formed into a line before he nearly jumped out of his skin. The door was loud as it opened and Harry dropped the book so he can yank the knife from the kitchen free from under the pile of the pillows.

"Hope," he called out in a loud whisper. The type of whisper most children used at night when they thought boogie men were under the bed and they wanted their parents, but they didn't want to draw the attention of the monster. The type of whisper that didn't work around drunk fathers with a hook.

Young Harry inched towards the entrance of the blanket fort, ready to flee or attack.

In this place, he was forced to trust Hope. They had an accord and that meant neither of them could betray each other without suffering the wrath of the Davey Jones. The only person he couldn't betray was Morgan. They were first friends and vowed to watch each other's backs, except Morgan, well, had nice parents here. She didn't need a blanket fort like he did.

Harry, not surprisingly, did not know what a pinky promise was so he just kind of stared before reaching out to grab her pinky with his fingers so he could give an awkward little shake.

"Maybe he will come back?" The young pirate didn't know how this place worked so he had no idea he was actually the person she was missing. He slowed down on his chip consumption speed and ate them one chip at a time. Manners were strongly back in place. Food on the Isle was an issue so people did what they could to survive. Things were rationed, stolen, fought over. So when Harry got about half way through the small bag he painstakingly rolled it closed. He could have kept eating, but the mindset of being careful with food was still strong with him. He glanced at Hope before moving to slide the bag of chips under the pile of pillows. He doubted she was going to steal the chips since they had an accord.

Harry sat back down and crossed his legs before propping his elbows on his knees, which meant he had no problem resting his chin in the palm of his hands. He gave Hope a very serious look before finally asking the question that was bothering his young mind. "Why are you being so nice to me? Just cus we have an accord doesn't mean you have to be nice."

Hope grinned at the awkward shake, reaching out with her other hand to gently take hold of his pinky and put it in the right pose. "Here. This is called a pinky promise. It's another way to seal your oath."

Eating just chips all day wouldn't be good anyway, but she really wanted to tell him she could buy more bags later, if only so he might not feel so territorial about them. He needed real food, too, so he could treat them like precious treats, she supposed. "I hope he does. But I have other friends so that I don't miss him too much, and maybe I'm becoming your friend, too?"

She sat up a bit straighter at the serious look on his face. Even though his question shattered her heart, she wanted to take it as seriously as he did in the asking of it, so she took some time to think before she answered. "Well, this place is kind of confusing no matter what age you are, but maybe more confusing the younger you are. So if you can be nice to people when things are confusing, that seems like the right thing to do because at the end of the day we're all trying to figure this thing out. Also, you're alone, and I've been alone enough in my life to know how that feels. Sometimes, even though I put up a front, I wished I had someone who would be kind to me, so I want to be that for someone else who needs it."
