Harry mal
WHO Hook and Mal
WHAT. snow, shennigans, and acting like two kids from the Isle
WHEN. this afternoon
WHERE. in the snow
WARNINGS. Swearing, antics, etc.
STATUS. on going

The trick with hunting prey was not to let them see you first.

That was also the trick of sneaking past drunk fathers who had nasty sharp hooks. Harry had gotten extremely good at sneaking in his life, something he was using to his advantage at the moment. Life in Goodland was ripping his mind apart lately. He had attachments, people he would fight for, and he knew that was a weakness. One several people on the Isle would exploit. Harry Hook had enemies. Be it adults that had tasted his hook when he protected children or be it rival gang members.

Harry had done his best to only be attached to Uma, Gil, and the crew back on the Isle.

You remove each person your enemy cares about. You make them lose every single person they turned to for comfort and strength.

He patted the snow together into a sphere shape between his gloves as he hid around the side of a cabin. His father's lessons seemed to overlay his thoughts a lot lately and it was probably because there was a version of the bastard in Goodland now. Except, well, sodding Killian didn't actually seem that bad. Harry winced as the snowball in his exploded between his fingers thanks to the pressure he had been applying.

You make sure your enemy has nowhere to land.

By Evil, if his actual father actually showed up? Harry would drive the man through with a sword before the Captain could harm Freddy, Aracely, or even Mal of all people. His father would try to steal Cleo and use her. Even Barry... Harry shook his gloves out as he scowled. When had he gotten so bloody attached to people? What was wrong with him? There were more names to the list of people he'd want to protect and that was wrong according to the Isle.

The sound of crunching caught his attention and he peered around the edge of the cabin. Perfect. Harry didn't make a sound as he pounced so he basically tackled Mal into a drift of snow. His arms went around her so she didn't have time to escape from the outcome of this fall. He got a face full of snow for his trouble as he also slammed into the snowdrift. Hope's suggestions for clothes had been well worth it, even if they weren't his normal style. Warmth was far more important then looking like a menacing pirate at the moment.

Take away your enemy's ability to laugh.

Harry rolled off of Mal and sank back into the snow as he burst out laughing. He pushed snow off of his face as he continued to laugh.

"Is there snow in Auradon or do ye have to go to Arendelle? Diz would love this... Actually, I can think of a pair of twins that would probably shiver in their wee boots before finally enjoying themselves in this here snow. But, ta be honest, I think Uma wouldn't know wut to do with this weather." His rambling words were a clear sign he was trying to keep his thoughts at bay.

She had been cautious about the sudden change in weather and downright stubborn about having to get another new set of clothes that weren't like her own to wear so she wouldn't freeze. Mal had seen and experienced snow from afar but never right in front of her. Truthfully, she hadn't been sure what to do with it, picking it up between her fully gloved fingers and rubbing them together, letting what didn't melt fall back to the ground. It made everything look magical, that was for sure but she could've done without the chill in the air and the need for a heavy coat, gloves that actually covered her entire hand, a scarf and hat. She felt like a marshmallow, waddling around.

The admission that she was actually having fun chasing Harry around the cabins wasn't one that came easy - but admitting to enjoying herself with Harry in any capacity was still a strange feeling, nevermind about the weather on top of it. With the first smack of a snowball against the side of her head, she had forgotten about her sour mood and the scowl had been wiped off her face - replaced by a glare of green eyes and a wicked grin. Her own snowball in her hand now, she ran off after him, stumbling a bit in the snow. She saw the last bit of him duck behind one of the cabins and trudged her way through, trying to be as quiet as she could and finding it damn near impossible with the crunch of the snow against the bottom of her boots.

As she raised her arm and readied herself to turn around the corner and get him hopefully right in the face, she was tackled back and into a huge pile of snow, a shriek escaping her lips as she dropped her snowball and let herself sink in to the snow pile. Rolling over, unable to keep the smile from her face as she did, she burst out laughing at the sight of the snow on his face, reaching over to grab her discarded snowball before leaning over and smacking him in the chest with it. "That's what you get!"

It was hard to be mad at him when he was actually laughing and enjoying himself. And when she was as well, to be honest. It was nice to be able to be herself, not have to worry about being lady-like or what the people would think of their queen rolling around in the snow with a pirate. There was a feeling like she'd had on the Isle, of causing mischief and having fun. That was a feeling that she hadn't realized she'd missed as much as she did until she came here and had more freedom than either the Isle or Auradon had offered her before.

Sitting up in the snowdrift, Mal shook some of the snow from her hair and looked down at Harry, still tempted to smash some snow into his face again. "I haven't experienced it until now. The Isle kids would love this, that's true. Running around and actually being allowed to throw stuff at each other." She grinned at the thought before shrugging a little, waving her finger and watching as a green light came from it and swirled around the snow in front of them, making a tornado of it in the air. "It's just water, right?" She snapped her fingers, the tornado suddenly bursting and causing flakes and sparkling green bits of light to shower down on top of them. An attempt to distract him. "Water's her thing. She might like it."

With a groan, Mal stood from the snowdrift, walking around to stand in front of him and offering her hand out for him to grab. "Ready for round two or do you surrender? Keep in mind, there's only a ton of shame in surrendering," she said with a mischievous grin.

Harry sat up so he could brush the remains of a snowball off his chest. "Quite a few of the twerps would probably try and eat the sodding snow," he pointed out. "Still fresher than the shite on the Isle." His fingers stilled against the material as he watched the magical tornado. The sight of magic still was a tad strange for him, but he had gotten over the whole minor feeling of panic. Well, for the most part. He still wasn't overly thrilled with the idea of consuming anything magic.

Sleeping spells were serious things.

To truly destroy your enemy, get them to trust you and then betray them when they least expect it...

A snort escaped him as he rolled his eyes. "Aye, water is her thing, but she tends ta like it a wee bit warmer. Less frozen." He reached out and clasped his hand around Mal's forearm so he could pull himself up. An exaggerated gasp escaped him at her words and he couldn't help leaning into her personal space. He grinned wickedly as he narrowed his eyes.

"Them fighting words, yer Majesty. Water is where I am most comfortable as well," he took a step back as he threw his arms wide as if motioning to the entire domain of snow. Sure, the tips of his ears were getting a bit cold, but that was hardly a reason to stop.

He flourished a hand through the air and held up a finger. "I'll give ye a head start this time," he teased. "Think ye can outrun me?" Running in the snow slowed anyone down and he knew they both would end up looking like failing penguins if they raced in the snow. "We run ta that wee snow...owl?" He cocked his head to the side and tried to figure out just what snow creature was in the distance. People had really seemed to embrace the whole winter thing judging from the various creations out in the white expanse.

"We can even make a wee wager, if ye like?" He grinned at her as if they had never been enemies. They had years of history, but being in this place meant they both had the freedom they had craved. Freedom to actually be happy.

Destroy your enemy before they destroy you.

Watching with amusement as he threw his arms in the air, she crossed her own and tilted her head to the side. She had to admit, there was something oddly charming about Harry Hook when he was in a decent enough mood. Something she probably would've noticed sooner had she spent any kind of time with him - or if such decent moods actually had existed for them on the Isle. She knew that even in her best mood, there was an underlying anger there that felt like it would never be quelled.

Mal couldn't recall a time that she had actually been truly happy, without a care or worry of anything else. There was always something in the back of her mind that prevented her from embracing positive things fully. Even her own engagement had been dampened a bit by thoughts of Uma beforehand, thoughts of needing to protect and save Auradon after. She wondered if she was capable of actually feeling pure happiness, of letting go and allowing herself that right.

"You forget, your Doofishness," she said, taking a step toward him and closing the gap between them, "I don't need to know how to swim in this kind of water. No fear or risk of drowning here." Mal smirked, leaning in slightly to get into is personal space now as well. "I don't think I'll need a head start, but I appreciate the gentlemanly offer." She knew she probably should've taken him up on it, still struggling to find her own bearings in the snow, but she was much too proud for such a thing. Winning with an advantage like that wouldn't really be winning at all - and she wanted to win.

"You're on," she said, pulling back after following his gaze in the direction of the snow owl in the distance. It seemed easy enough and what? Like she was going to back down from a challenge? Raising an eyebrow at him and his grin, she narrowed her eyes. Charming though he was, this was still Harry Hook they were talking about. "What kind of wee wager?" she asked, eyes meeting his.

He was used to uneven ground, of taking longer strides or shorter ones to keep his footing. Harry had kept standing on a ship that was pitching in the middle of a storm. He had the balance of a wharf rat. He had, also, spent more time in this snow than Mal.

This was going to end with her failing.

"I'd say a thimble, but I nay think either of us would enjoy that," he teased before reaching out to capture some of her hair between his gloved fingers. He titled his head to the side ever so slightly before he snickered faintly. "Alright, I have a wager we both can live with. Ye lose and this hair turns that annoying shade of blonde for a week and if I lose, which I won't, ye can magic me locks into wutever shade ye want." He focused his gaze on her as he brought the locks of hair closer to his lips. At the last second, he burst out laughing and dropped his hand so her purple hair could flutter free.

"We have an accord?" He held his hand out as he grinned. "I'm a man of me word, ye know this." Harry honored his word, even if the other person cheated. That was the reason Uma was Captain while he was First Mate. Oh, sure, he had been a bitter sour about it at first, but she had proved herself a good Captain and he was content to just follow along for the time being. She wasn't here and Harry knew if she was then she'd be doing everything in her power to make sure Mal faceplanted during the race. Uma didn't mind the underhand tricks.

"If ye dinnae like the hair wager than I am sure we can settle on a mere thimble," he winked at her before a snort of laughter escaped him. There was no way she would go for something like. She was engaged and soon to be Queen of Auradon and the Isle. The dragon pixie in front of him was going to be honest royalty and those types didn't run around kissing pirates.

Mal had to admit that she was a little taken aback by his initial offer and it had to have shown on her face, blinking a couple of times before her eyes grew a bit wider. She could feel a warmth growing in her cheeks as he reached out and touched her hair, taking it between his fingers, clenching her teeth in an attempt to try and fight it off. There was no way she was going to let him see her blushing at the idea of having to kiss him or the way his fingers played with her bluish-purple hair.

Instead, she stood up a big straighter, arms crossing defensively against her chest as she forced a smirk on her face, head jerking away from him. "Why, Harry. I didn't know you wanted to kiss me badly enough that you had to think up this whole thing in order to try and make it happen." Raising her eyebrows at his other offer, her gaze moved down to his outstretched hand for a moment before returning to his grinning face. "You know that I would have to use magic on you to do that. I know it's a punishment but...I also don't want you freaking out on me when I win and have to do it."

Eying his hand, she reached out her own and took it, grasping it firmly and giving it a squeeze as she shook it. "As long as you don't mind that, I'm in. And if you do mind it, we can always fall back on --" Mal paused, letting go of his hand quickly and waving hers in the air, looking away from him again. "The other thing." Blowing some hair out of her face, she all but mumbled, "It's not like I would chicken out over a stupid kiss."

That was really what it came down to, not wanting to look silly and like there was actually something to be avoided in kissing Harry. And there wasn't - it was Harry, after all; but she was never one to back down from a challenge. The kiss would likely make him more miserable than any kind of hair she could give him and that was really the point, wasn't it? She had only ever kissed Ben before and for all she knew, she was terrible at it - which would only add to the misery on his part. Would she be miserable, too? Of course, but there was something about that misery being shared that made it a bit more palatable.

Taking a couple of steps back from him, she held out her arms on either side of her, tilting her head to the side. "You ready to lose?" Mal asked, a bit aggressively. She didn't mess around when it came to this kind of thing, a competitiveness coming out of her that was fairly unbecoming of a queen. She didn't have to care about that here, though - and certainly not with Harry.

Deal struck. Harry couldn't help grinning even more as Mal seemed to think she was definitely winning. The fact she was willing to kiss him so he didn't have to suffer magic was a strange thing. It made moths lurch about his stomach and he wasn't quite sure what to do with that feeling, so he did his best to just ignore.

No point in dwelling on things.

He snapped his teeth at her in a mocking way before shifting his stance to one primed for sprinting. Running through snow wasn't easy and Mal was going to learn. "Ready, Malsy," he crowed out.

"One, two, three- GO!" He took off the second the word go left his lips. Snow was kicked up around him as he did his best to put distance between him and the future Queen of Auradon. His lungs burned from the cold air he was inhaling, but there was actually a bit of a smile on his face. Harry wasn't used to just having fun for the sake of fun. This was fun. They were just two kids from the Isle that were racing for no reason at all. The prize was hardly malicious. No one's life was at stake.

Barry would be proud.

The young pirate let out a loud crow of laughter as he closed the last distance to the snow owl with a jump. His arms windmilled as he sailed through the air. His boots collided hard into the snow next to the snow creation. He thrust both arms up into the air as he whooped. He spun around to gloat at Mal because he was positive the purple-haired vixen was way behind him.

His heavy eyelinered eyes widened in surprise. "Oh shite-"

She couldn't focus too much on what the end result of the race would be - Mal had to push that from her mind and ready herself to run. Getting distracted by the thought of kissing Harry was ridiculous, anyway. It was just a silly, meaningless kiss that neither would enjoy, after all. As far as bets that Isle kids tended to make, it was a tame one.

Readying herself, she took off once he spoke the word "go" as well, doing her best to trudge through the snow and finding it more difficult than she could've imagined. Glaring ahead as Harry took a promising lead, she let a little growl escape her lips as she forced herself to run harder, faster. She had talked a big game and wanted so badly to back it up with results - that and she would never hear the end of it from him. She would be on her death bed, he would come to see her, "remember that time I beat you at the snow race?" No way, wasn't happening.

Biting her lip, she felt a bit of guilt but it was only momentary as Harry's lead increased. Eyes glowing green, she said a bit breathlessly, "Feet of mine, slow but true, please go faster out of the blue." Green sparkles descended onto her booted feet and suddenly she was flying, making up the distance between them - but too late. Harry was at the owl and already gloating. Mal didn't have time to be annoyed, however, as her feet didn't seem to want to stop or slow down. Tumbling towards him, trying to keep her balance, all was lost when she hit a slick patch of snow - maybe a sheet of ice underneath it - and slipped, slamming right into him and knocking him back into the snow.

Laying on top of him, she caught her breath, hands resting against his chest. She looked up at him, cheeks flushed from what she would claim was the race, not the position they found themselves in. It was likely a little bit of both. Her eyes met his and she swallowed, forgetting how to move for a moment - that was weird. Any other time being this close to Harry, her body would've rejected it and immediately done everything it could to get the hell away from him - like a reverse magnet; but as she fought to fill her burning lungs with air again, she couldn't find that urge in her this time.

The impact was a bit more painful than when he had tackled her earlier. Harry grunted in mild pain as he wrapped his arms around her waist to stop her from rolling away into more danger. Well that and from shifting in such a way he'd actually get injured.

He was ready to scold her for whatever stunt she had just pulled, but Harry didn't quite get the words past his lips as he stared at her in surprise. His chest rose and fell quickly as he the cold air bit at his slightly warm face. Uma would have been laughing her ass off at this scene, most likely.

"If ye wanted to get me in this position," he drawled out with a sneer, "Ye could have just asked." He flashed her a grin. Without thinking he shifted a hand from her waist up to the side of her face. He cupped her cheek as he leaned up just a little bit to cover her lips with his own. Harry had never had problems using things like a kiss as a weapon of sorts. A way to get what he wanted. This kiss? This kiss was oddly tender compared to his normal behavior. When he finally pulled away he was sure she was going to slap him or some such.

"There, now ye dinnae have to ruin yer lovely locks."

The storm that was often in his eyes was calmer now as he smiled at her with an honest smile. "Ye suck at running in the snow, Malsy. Maybe we should go in soon, aye? Get something warm ta drink. I can only handle so much of the cold. No matter how delightful the company."

The color in her face grew from a flush to a full-on blush, something undeniable - though she would certainly try. It took her a moment to regain her composure, to snark back at his comments, "If I wanted you in this position, I'd have to be out of my mind." For some reason, the sharpness that was usually found in any retort toward Harry wasn't there this time. It was dull and soft, more akin to a butter knife. There was a panic rising up inside her at the realization that she didn't actually mind this. What the hell was going on?

In her flustered state, Mal had almost forgotten about the deal they'd struck - until he lifted a hand to her cheek and leaned in. Watching his hand out of the corner of her eye, they widened when his lips touched hers. It hadn't been at all what she was expecting - not that she had thought about it enough to be expecting anything, of course; but she had pictured a quick peck or something silly, sloppy, and gross. One to get it over with or one to annoy her. The tenderness in it was another shock to her system.

Once again, it took her a moment to get out of her own head and the result of that surprised even her as she found herself kissing him back. Just a reflex, like something hitting your knee in just the right spot and making your leg kick. Uncontrollable, unstoppable. It really wasn't her own doing.

When he pulled away, she simply stared back down at him again, blinking a couple of times before swallowing hard and allowing her eyes to dart elsewhere. "Yeah, well. Deal's a deal." Pursing her lips together, she was grateful that he kept talking and suggested going inside to warm up. It gave her something else to focus on besides how...not terrible the kiss turned out to be - and most importantly, how different it felt with Harry than with Ben. That was something that was going away in the vault of her mind, never to be brought out again.

Nodding and unable not to smile back at him just a little bit, despite wanting to scowl instead, Mal forced herself up and off of him with a groan, brushing the snow off herself and once more reaching out her hand to help him up. "Hot chocolate with a ton of marshmallows sounds really good right about now."
