WHO: Kenny, Ella, & Jo.
WHAT: El and Jo see Kenny die for the first time.
WHEN: Monday.
WHERE: The Maze.
WARNINGS: Death, blood, gore, violence, language, etc.
STATUS: Closed.

The maze had been a little interesting at first, but by now, Kenny had become tired and bored of it. He was just sick and tired of seeing the tall corn stalks everywhere, sick of dying and getting hurt all the time. He just wanted to find the exit and get out so he could go to bed or something. Sleep sounded pretty good right now.

But no, he still had to keep searching for the exit. So he kept walking and walking, getting annoyed whenever he ran into a dead end and had to turn back. He found a different path that kept going for awhile. Things were fine until he turned a corner and saw... a dead body on fire? Okay, fucking weird. He just stepped over it and kept on going but it wasn't the only dead body he saw. More appeared as he walked and he recognized them easily. Stan, Kyle, Butters. His parents and brother. Even Cartman was there. Worse was seeing Karen all bloody and mangled up.

It would've been easier to ignore if they'd just stay still. But no, they just had to talk and move and twitch unnaturally, had to say it was his fault that they're dead. Karen was the worse, how she kept saying he was the worst guardian angel ever for letting her die a horrible death. Kenny just kept going, stepping over their mangled bodies and trying his best to block out their voices.

He made it past them and to the next corner. But this time, he didn't see anything weird and fucked up. Instead, he saw Ella and Jo. "Oh, hey," he greeted them casually, like he'd just ran into them on the street and not in a dark corn maze where he'd just saw the dead bodies of his friends and family seconds ago.

Ella had relived the fire that left her body marked and scarred her entire life. She'd imagined all sorts of horrors in relation to that fire, the face of every single person she had ever loved or even cared about a little bit had succumbed to the flames right before her eyes, and there wasn't a thing she could do to stop it from happening.

When she'd eventually run into Jo, she'd been convinced the woman was a ghost, because she'd witnessed her best friend die in a leaf-pile fire at least a dozen times already. But no, Jo was solid and real and her presence had eventually calmed Ella down enough that she could move forward, head down, blocking out the projected images of her life in flames.

And then there was Kenny. She didn't love him, she barely knew him. But she liked him. He was cute and he was nice to her, and hot damn he was good between the sheets. She'd never been so satisfied with a man as she was with him. She'd seen him die a dozen deaths too.

"Hey," she answered, matching his casual tone. She slid her arm to Jo's, using Jo's presence to ground herself because she wasn't sure Kenny was even real.

Of course, Kenny had no idea Ella was doubted his existence at the moment. Jo had a feeling because she gripped Ella's arm in return, letting her know she was there.

"You both look fucking awful," Kenny told them.

Which, okay, Jo guess was true. Both had definitely gone through the ringer ever since they'd appeared in the maze. Ella more mentally than Jo, who didn't really see anything too horrible like fires and dead bodies. The worse she'd seen was the actual Chucky doll which chased her until she lost it. No, Jo's ordeal had been more physical and it showed because she was covered in dirt and bruises and a bit of blood.

"You could've said that a bit nicer," she told him, though she couldn't help but smile a bit. She didn't know what to think of Kenny at first, and she still didn't really, but right now, she was kind of glad to see him.

"Pfft, fuck that," he snorted. He didn't really have a filter and just said whatever was on his mind no matter how offensive or mean it could be. He shrugged. "You two run into any fucked up shit in here?"

"Everything is fucked up shit in here," Ella told him. Because it was. The things she'd seen, the monsters that had chased them. It was madness. She was pretty sure she was going insane. What other explanation was there?

"Now you're here. And that's just as fucked up as anything else." Of all the people in the maze, they ran into him. Never mind that she was grateful for the familiar face, she really didn't want him around when she felt vulnerable. This was a completely different kind of vulnerable than sexual intimacy created.

But at the same time, she wasn't going to send him away. Safety in numbers, or something, she attempted to justify in her mind. Plus he was a guy. It wasn't much security, but it made her feel a little safer.

"I guess," Kenny shrugged. Aside from what he just saw seconds ago, he didn't think anything was fucked up. Nothing that would've made him question his sanity at least. Only the dead bodies he just saw, but he was quick to move on from that.

"Yeah, right," he rolled his eyes. "I bet Jo and I are the only normal things you've seen here." Unless they ran into someone else, but he kind of doubted it. The maze seemed huge and he hadn't run into anyone until now. He was actually a bit surprised they found each other.

"Well, either way," Jo spoke up. "I think we should stick together. Might be safer and all," she suggested, hoping Kenny would join them. Despite his rude behavior at times, there was also a sort of protectiveness about him. That he would keep them safe. At least, that was the feeling she got.

"Yeah, alright," Kenny replied and without a word, starting walking again. Jo exchanged a look with Ella before following him.

Ella blew out an exasperated breath, but honestly, she was glad Kenny was there. She would protect Jo with her dying breath, but she knew she was no match for the things they were encountering in the maze. A lot of it was in her head or whatever, but there were very real monsters, creatures, evil beings from movies and shit. It was a madhouse, and she didn't know how the hell they were going to get out.

But now that Kenny was with them, she felt like she could relax a little bit. She was still on high alert, sure. But she wasn't as worked up as she had been when it was just her and Jo trying to figure it out on their own.

"What the fuck is that thing?" She said, glowering at some demented creature just ahead of them. "Fuck."

"Thanks," Jo said to Kenny when he agreed to stay with them. She doubted Ella would, so she figured she'd say it herself. Kenny just shrugged in response and kept going. Since he seemed the most calm and fearless at the moment (though both Jo and Ella seemed fine on the outside, she was still panicking on the inside and she felt that Ella wasn't as calm as she seemed either), she was fine with letting him take the lead.

Kenny turned a corner and suddenly stopped and bent down. "Sweet, a knife," he grinned, picking it up. Barely a second later, Ella had spoke and he glanced up at the weird creature thing. "No fucking idea," he shrugged. If he was alone, he'd just keep going. Yes, he'd die but he'd come back. But that probably wouldn't really work.

Before he could think of what to do, it spotted them and charged. "Oh my god, run!" Jo shrieked, grabbing Ella's hand and pulling her as she ran. Once they made a certain distance and hid for the moment. "Did we lose it?" she asked. Kenny peeked but saw nothing.

"I think so," he started but before he could continue, the creature was back and yanked him out of view. Jo immediately ran after him but she regretted it right away. Because the thing she saw would haunt her forever - Kenny being ripped and torn apart in front of her and Ella. She could barely hear him shouting at them to run and that he'd catch up. She was too in shock to move.

Ella was frozen on the spot. It was a trainwreck. She didn't want to watch, and at the same time, she couldn't look away. Kenny was being torn apart right in front of them. Blood was splattering everywhere. It was disgusting and grotesque and something in her refused to accept the reality of it.

She liked Kenny. She liked him a lot. She enjoyed sex with him. she even liked talking to him sometimes. And he was dying. Right in front of her, and there was nothing she could do to stop it from happening. So she stood and she stared and she tried to tell herself that the emotions she was feeling weren't grief. She barely knew him. So what if he was dead. So what if she'd miss him. He was just another dumb person in her life who failed her.

She reached, impulsively, for Jo's hand, clinging to the one person who's never betrayed her.

Kenny's vision was slowly going as he lost more blood, but he could still see Ella and Jo. Both seemed frozen on the spot and he wanted to yell at them to run. If they didn't, the monster would surely go and kill them next. But he was choking on his own blood and all he could manage was some gurgling sound.

He felt darkness coming over him but he stayed awake, at least until he saw them run off. Good, he guess. Now he could die and so he did, waking back up a few moments later. Since the monster was still nearby, he stayed still for a moment. Thankfully, it went the other way and Kenny got up, quietly walking in the direction Ella and Jo had gone, catching up with them quickly enough.

"Okay, that fucker's gone - will you shut the hell up?" he hissed at Jo who screamed when she saw him, covering her mouth with his hand. "Do you want him or any other monster to find us?"

Jo grabbed his hand and slowly pushed it away, but she managed not to shout. "But- you were just- How did you- You died!" She couldn't speak coherently. She was in too much shock. She saw him die with her own eyes, but now he was okay? Well, other than being covered in blood, but he seemed perfectly fine otherwise.

"Yep, I was dead. Now I'm back and we should really keep going," he shrugged.

"We can keep moving," Ella said. "But I want to know how you do that." Because talking about Kenny was a distraction. She didn't want to think about all the other crazy shit that was going on in the maze.

She'd never seen someone die before. She'd seen some weird shit in her day, especially at the motel where she worked back in Porter. And she'd seen dead bodies, but like her grandfather and people she knew. She'd never actually seen someone die. Especially not the way Kenny had. That was fucked up.

But he was fine. She could see that. He was alive and well, like it never happened.

"So would I," Jo said, more quietly this time. This wasn't possible. No way he could die and be okay now. People didn't just come back from the dead. They certainly didn't act all casual about it like Kenny was doing now.

"I just come back, nothing special," Kenny shrugged and without another word, he turned and started walking. Jo just exchanged a look with Ella and followed him.

"Nothing special," Ella repeated with a roll of her eyes. If they weren't in a death maze, she'd have some other choice words for him. But they were in a death maze, and she supposed if she was going to die in the maze, she didn't want her last words to be angry at him. Even if he drove her insane. Even if what she'd just seen was completely impossible and totally unreal.

"You're an ass," she said to him. Maybe she wouldn't go off on him, but insulting him was normal. She did that outside of the maze too. She wasn't sure why. She just did it. "Now shut up and get us out of here."

"Well, after the first few times, it got kinda boring," Kenny shrugged, pretty much ignoring Ella's insult. He was pretty much used to it by now and sometimes returned one of his own. Not this time, though. He didn't feel like it at the moment.

"Kenny, no one can get used to dying and coming back," Jo spoke, a little more softly this time. She was feeling the opposite of Ella and was more concerned about him and his well-being. She was still in shock for sure, but she was also worried about him.

"I did," he replied. "But yeah, we should try and get out of here." Which he didn't know the way, but he'd try and get them out alive at least.
