MORGAN
STARK
Morgan had slipped out of Stark Industries early Sunday morning. It was agonizing to feel like she was useless. Sure, she had helped her mom and even looked over some of Cisco’s setup, but it wasn’t enough. She knew deep down that she should probably stay put, that it would only cause her loved ones more stress if she entered the maze, but not being able to reach Markus had been the last straw.

She wandered the maze alone for hours, her suit lighting her way in the dark. Morgan began to think she would be just as useless in the maze as she had been at Homebase. Hadn’t Uncle James said that he was going to find her? She suddenly felt sick to her stomach, what if something had happened to him during his search? Just as she tried to push all of those thoughts out of her mind, she finally stumbled across someone she knew.

If it wasn’t so fucking dark, her Aunt Wanda would have been able to see the visible relief wash over her face, as her helmet retracted back into her suit. Rushing over to the other woman, she embraced her, and the two of them began searching the maze together.

Morgan’s reprieve from solitude only lasted for a few hours, before she heard a familiar voice calling out to her. “...Dad?” She cried out, turning away from Wanda just long enough to look around. “Wanda...did you hear that?”

When she whipped back around to ask her again, her Aunt was no longer behind her. All that was there was a row of corn that she swore hadn’t been there before. She swallowed hard, trying to ignore the chill running down her spine. “She’s okay. She’s okay. You’re okay. It’s just the maze playing tricks.”

”Morgan…”

There it was again. Tony was nearby, and the joy she felt upon hearing his voice in person was overwhelming.

She began running toward him, using her commlink to try and reach him. “Oh, thank fucking god. I think I see you. Turn around…”

“Dad? Daddy…” She stopped just short of her father. “Are you-”

The blow to her face was white-hot. Her vision blurred, and she went flying backward leveling some of the corn in her wake. If she had been thinking clearly, she would have remembered that he hadn’t had his suit.

“You’re not him,” she groaned- frantically forcing her suit’s helmet to fall over her pounding head. She should have known from the moment she saw him. He hadn’t turned to greet her. He hadn’t pulled her in for a hug. He hadn’t uttered a single word. She should have known, but Morgan had so desperately needed it to be her father that logical thinking went right out the window.

She barely got to her feet before the imposter’s hand wrapped around her throat and lifted her off the ground. “Guess again, sweetheart.”

Her stomach churned, and she willed her body to cooperate. Thrusting her feet into his chest, she flipped backward, out of his clutches, and pulled her hand back to send a blast of energy straight for his head.

The repulsor’s beam made contact, but he had planted his feet firmly onto the ground, almost as if he anticipated her attack.

“Tsk. Tsk. Going to kill me now? And after you worked so hard to bring me back? You wiped out half of the fucking population all over again. You single-handedly destroyed everything we worked for. How does that feel, sweetheart,” he growled- moving toward her, effortlessly avoiding every blast she sent his way. “You’re a selfish child, you’re worse than him, at least he was trying to better the world. You though?” He asked, right before landing another blow to the side of her head. “You’re pathetic.”

“So, I’ll ask you one more time. How does it feel to know that you brought your Daddy back, and now he gets to be the one to take you down? You don’t deserve to wear the suit.”

“NO,” She cried out, warm tears streaming down her face. “This isn’t real. I didn’t do it. I didn’t do it.”

Morgan was flying through the air again, but this time she could feel the breeze on her skin. Somehow her suit had disappeared. All that was left were the gloves on her hands, and without the iron to break her fall, the pain was excruciating and it was reflected in her screams. “I’m sorry, Daddy. I’m sorry, Mom. I’m so sorry.”

“Real enough for ya, kid?”

Scrambling, she crawled as fast as she could into the corn stalks. Not real. Not real. Not real, she kept trying to remind herself- despite being able to hear his footsteps behind her. The pain in her head was so awful she feared she may pass out, but she couldn’t afford to do that. She had to get away. She had to find somewhere to gather her bearings. Groaning quietly once more, she managed to find her feet again- and ran.

Once she thought she had put enough distance between herself and the Iron Man doppelganger, she crouched down in the maze. “You can do this. You. Can. Fucking. Do. This.” With a deep breath, she sent several holograms of herself running in all directions.

This went on for hours. Morgan finding somewhere to hide, and trying to divert his attention away with holograms. It took about five of those hours, of silently crying, before she realized her iron suit hadn’t disappeared, but she was still too shaken to attempt to fight him again. The maze was her worst nightmare come to life, and the psychological toll it was taking on her, was far worse than any of the pain her body was experiencing.

Silently she prayed that someone real would find her, but until then she would try her best to avoid another encounter at all costs.

Lincoln heard a sound as he continued to stare at the bottle. It felt as though they were the only things in the world right now and the sobs were simply a distant distraction. But what if it were Daisy out there? He gave a blink and turned towards the sound. "Daisy?" the sound was barely a whisper, but the name gave him strength to try again. "Hello? Is there anyone there?"

He stood up and took a step towards the rustle of corn and was startled by the sight of Iron Suits flying up from the maze. Was this Hive again? Lincoln didn't know but he knew he couldn't ignore it. He took another step and then stopped. He looked back over his shoulder at the vodka and closed his eyes. There would be time for that later, he told himself as he pushed himself to move.

It felt as though he were in a dream, the electricity in his fingers lighting his way towards the distinctly female shape ahead of him. "Daisy, is that you?" he asked as he tentatively approached.

How long had she been running? There wasn't a way to really gauge a proper timeline, because she had stopped keeping up with it after twelve hours. The only thing she knew for sure, was the thing chasing her was relentless. He never seemed to tire, and her efforts to blast him away were fruitless. How was that possible? How was any of this possible?

The delirium had begun to set in, and for a brief moment, she actually let herself believe that she deserved all of the horrible things he was yelling throughout the maze. What if she really had brought him back? What if she hadn't destroyed the research? What if she had really selfishly turned half of the population to dust, without any regard to anyone's feelings but her own? Maybe he was right. Maybe she was worse than Thanos had been.

It was with these thoughts, that Morgan Stark gave up. She was so tired, and she didn't have it in her to run anymore. So she sighed heavily, retracted her suit, and stepped out into the clearing. "I'm sorry," she cried for the millionth time, and silently said goodbye to her parents, her siblings, her extended family, and Markus.

But the sound of someone elses' voice snapped her out of her daze, and she held up gloved her hand- lighting the darkness around her. "Who's there?"

He moved nervously towards the figure, unsure whether this was another of Hive's tricks or someone genuinely in need. When she raised her hand Lincoln braced himself of attack, though none came other than the exhausted request. Not Daisy. His spirits dropped but he knew he couldn't turn his back on anyone who sounded so defeated.

"I'm Lincoln," he said as tentatively approached. "Are you okay?" As he asked the question one of the Iron Suits he'd seen broke from the crowd and flew towards them, clearly intent on doing the pair damage. He knew those suits from his home-world and he knew what they were capable of. He also knew where they came from but he knew that if he didn't do something now they'd be toast. Better to apologise for damage done than ask permission, right? Shit!

Lincoln raised both hands and let loose a wave of electricity, creating a shield between himself and the girl and the rogue suit. He leaned into the power, pushing the thing far enough away that he could unleash a final burst of energy that lit up the sky as the electricity surged through it and set it reeling back into the maze.

Now he had to hope that the girl was friendly or he'd just fucked up big time.

Morgan opened her mouth to reply to his question, and maybe thank whatever fucking god was listening that he was someone real, but instead, her eyes widened in fear as her father's doppelganger came flying toward them. 'This is it', she thought, screwing her eyes closed and bracing herself for a final blow.

But that blow never came, thanks to the brilliant bursts of electricity. She stared in disbelief as Lincoln seemed to obliterate the thing that had terrorized her for hours on end.

"H-how...I don't understand." Morgan's wide eyes turned to him, their surroundings still lit up by the electric currents and the lights from her gloves. "I-I thought he couldn't be killed." She shook her head, pushing back all the thoughts of how her efforts against him had been useless.

"Thank you...I think you just saved my fucking life." Ripping into the supply backpack that she had forgotten about until this very moment, she grabbed the bottle of water and chugged half of it before offering him the rest. "I'm Morgan." She was breathless and so very tired, but she was alive- because of Lincoln.

Lincoln couldn't say for sure if it was dead, but he was pretty sure it wasn't coming for them any time soon. "Let's hope it can be?" he said as he watched her carefully, wondering what he'd let himself in for.

"Hey, Morgan," Lincoln gave a small smile. "You seem scarily unphased by this fact," he said as he watched her dive into her pack, still waiting for the second shoe to drop. Had Lincoln just made a huge mistake and fucked with Stark Industries? Well it was a little late for recriminations now.

When she proffered the bottle towards him he shrank back a little, fearing it was a trick to get him to drink. "I'm... I'm good," Lincoln answered with a shake of his head and reached into his own pack. "You look exhausted," he said pulling out a pack of electrolyte powder and offering it towards her. "Here. Mix it with the water. It'll help give you a boost," so they could get the hell out of this place.

"Have you seen anyone else in here? My girlfriend's missing," Lincoln told her softly. "Daisy Johnson?"

"If it's all the s-same to you, I'm going to say he's dead." Morgan laughed deliriously. She was certain she probably looked like a madwoman to Lincoln, and perhaps she was going just a slight bit crazy after the ordeal she just went through, or maybe she was in shock? Dehydrated? Why did her head still hurt so fucking bad? "I'm s-sorry, but I just s-spent at least a day running and fighting for my life against a thing wearing my father's face and iron s-suit. S-so, I'm pretty s-sure nothing is going to phase me for a while."

"Thanks," she replied quietly, mixing the powder into the bottle and downing the rest of it.

She frowned empathically when he mentioned not being able to find his girlfriend. "No. You're the first person I've seen in hours. I was with my Aunt Wanda earlier, but the maze separated us. I can try and help you find Daisy though. I have people missing as well."

"Hey, I'm happy to go with dead," Lincoln replied with a small smile of support. He could tell Morgan had been through more trauma than she could emotionally handle and, perhaps, she wasn't the only one. He looked up when she mentioned her father, though. "You're Tony Stark's kid?" he asked with increasing curiosity. That would explain the iron suits and the mega-tech he'd seen before they were attacked. "You were here for that long? It's a miracle you're alive," Lincoln said slightly in awe. "Were you hurt?"

Now he was assessing her with a doctor's eye rather than that of an inhuman, the stutter could easily be shock or worse. Or pure exhaustion. The electrolyte powder would help a little, but Lincoln knew he had to keep a close eye on her.

"So many people seemed to disappear all at once," he said with a shake of his head. "How can they all be in a damn corn maze and be so hard to find?" Lincoln didn't even want to think about the games the place seemed to be playing on both him and Morgan, but they were going to have to be very careful as they progressed. "Who are you looking for? Right now teaming up seems like a really good move," he said emphatically. "I don't know how this works but maybe the maze can only affect us negatively if we're alone?" he wondered aloud, trying to make sense of everything he'd seen.

"Guilty as charged," she replied with a small smile of her own. "Morgan Happy Stark at your service, and as soon as I don't feel like my brain is going to pound right out of my head? I will thank you properly for saving my life." She grimaced when he asked if she was hurt. "I don't know? I remember being hit a few times in the head, but everything is kind of a blur." She made a motion with her hand to indicate said blurriness, then bent over to catch her breath for a minute.

Had she been thinking clearly, she would have realized that it was the adrenaline pumping through her system that was keeping her going. After feeling like she could stand up straight again, she took a closer look at him. "Are you okay?"

"This place is seriously fucked. I feel like I should have found an exit hundreds of times." She wondered briefly what her rescuer had seen himself, but she wouldn't dare question him about it. "My dad, and my Markus." She was delirious and naming off people as fast as she could. "My Family. My siblings. I'm not even sure who all is in here now." She had lost so much time, had her Mom been brought into the maze as well? Peter? MJ? There were so many, and her stomach churned when she realized it wouldn't be possible to locate them all. "I'm sorry, that's a lot. I'm usually not this scatterbrained. Maybe it's more pertinent that we look for a way out? And keep our eyes peeled for Daisy, Markus, and the rest?"

She definitely believed that maybe it wouldn't affect them negatively if they were together, or at the very least, perhaps it wouldn't be as daunting.

He'd seen the Stark from this world post about his family a fair bit on the network but in his home world Lincoln was pretty sure he'd have heard if Tony had had kids! Then again he was a few years behind current events, given... everything. He quickly focused on the one thing he could take from Morgan's introduction and gave a small smile. "Stark named you 'Happy'?" That sounded like a curse for any kid, let alone the kid of Iron Man and Avenger-in-Chief.

Lincoln wasn't happy to hear that she'd taken blows to the head, but they were surrounded by corn rather than MRI machines, so he'd have to play it old-school. "You start feeling sick or dizzy, you tell me immediately, okay?" he said with his long-practised doctor-tone. Which gave a wobble when asked about his own state of being. "I'm fine," he managed with a shake of his head. Nothing that a vat of vodka and a week in bed wouldn't cure, though that particular diagnosis wasn't on the menu right now.

"You've been running for your life. Pretty easy to get turned around in a place like this," he said with an understanding smile. When she reeled off the names of the many people she had to look for, Lincoln swallowed. Her troubles seemed small compared to his, though he'd walk through fire for Daisy a million times. "Then we're the search party," he agreed. "Definitely better with both of us," he said, as much for his own benefit as hers.

"Are you up to moving again?" he asked as he hefted pulled his rucksack back on. "I can take yours too, if you want?" he offered, ever the gentleman. Somehow he thought Morgan, much like Daisy, would resist such moves but he couldn't withhold the offer.

Morgan laughed a little, perhaps for the first time since entering this clusterfuck. "I'm a namesake. Morgan was my mom's Uncle, and Happy was one of my father's closest friends. He helped raise me." Although the irony of being named 'Happy' hadn't ever escaped her.

"So, I guess it wouldn't be the best time to mention that I've already felt sick and dizzy then huh?" Morgan had lost count of how many blows she had taken to her head- much like she had lost count of how long she had been fighting. "Yeah, me too," she replied with an arch of her eyebrow. "I'm fine." That was her default. She was always fine when asked. So she doubted very much that Lincoln was as 'fine' as he claimed to be.

"Search party it is then," Reaching to clasp his shoulder, she gave him a nod. "We'll do everything we can to find your girlfriend."

Groaning, she pulled her own backpack up over her shoulders. "Thanks, but I can do this." She needed to this. That thing had made her feel weak. He had made her second guess her abilities, and while she was experiencing a great deal of pain? She wasn't going to give her fake father or the maze the satisfaction. "Let's go."
