Max Evans & Liz Ortecho, later Michael Guerin
What: Max's rearrival in Goodland
Where: Inside the corn maze
When: Sunday, late
Warnings: Trauma, Injury, and such (but not gore)
Status: Closed
Max wasn't sure what was happening. That last thing he remembered was transferring his life force to Rosa, allowing her to live. He hadn't expected to die, but at a certain point he'd realised it was inevitable. And he was okay with it, he would trade his life for Rosa's to give Liz her sister back. And then there was nothing. No awareness, just...nothing.

He wasn't sure how long he was in the void of nothingness. There wasn't any way to measure time like that. It could have been five seconds, five hours, five decades, five centuries, or five millennia for all Max knew. He heard nothing, he felt nothing. He was nothing. And then suddenly, there was something, a trickle of awareness, and a sensation of being aware and alive, and in utter darkness.

He thrust a hand out, searching for something, anything solid to grab on to. He found what felt like a shoulder and he nearly recoiled in shock. He hadn't expected to feel another person. He sure as hell didn't expect to get sucker punched for this efforts! He stumbled, his legs like jelly beneath him. "Fuck."

Liz had been walking around aimlessly for hours like a zombie. It was like Max leaving had sucked all of the energy out of her and she was a shell of herself.

She'd tuned out the screams and the world around her, lost in her own grief. This was the fourth time in her life she'd lost someone and though she was an expert now, it never got easier. All she wanted to do was find a corner to curl up in until she was either rescued or she died but for some reason, her feet wouldn't give her a break. She sat, she died, then she got back up and she'd been on them ever since. They were hurting now but they wouldn't stop moving.

Though she was in a sulking depressive state now, she was still on high alert to her surroundings and she reached without a thought when someone ( or something ) touched her shoulder. Right away she turned around and put her fist out, hoping to come in contact with whatever touched her. She was about ready to go off on the person that dared to touch her in the dark when she heard the familiar voice. Turning her cellphone flashlight to shine on him, she almost turned white. "Great, now this thing is making me see ghosts"

The moment her light turned on him it instantly dimmed. He pulled back, reigning his power in before he fried the device in her hand. He had a feeling they were going to need it.

"Liz!" he gasped. His hand moved to her face, he didn't care that she'd just punched him. He ignored the throbbing in his face. He could address that later, along with the darkness and where in hell they were. Maybe she was dead too, or is brain was misfiring in death, or something. He didn't know, he didn't care.

Priority now was kissing her.

Liz went through a myriad of emotions in a few seconds as Max said her name, touched her face and kissed her. She'd just love him a few hours and now suddenly he was here in front of her and she didn't know how to comprehend it.

She was so sure it was something the maze was making up for her, like Noah and the serial killers, until he kissed her then she knew it was real. Ghosts wouldn't be able to kiss like this and make her feel how she was feeling. It took a few seconds for the shock to wear off then she kissed him back, her arms going around him.

She kissed until she couldn't breathe even more then she pulled back, shining her now dimmed flight light near his face so she could see him. "This place isn't making me go crazy. You're really here. You're not a ghost at all" She told him, her voice filled with relief as she reached uo to touch his cheek.

"I'm here," he assured her. "I don't know how. Hell, I don't even know where here is," all he knew was it was dark, and people were screaming. But he was here with Liz, and he knew everything would be all right.

It had to be. Either he was dead and she was with him in the afterlife, or...she had come into his subconscious to pull him out. That made just as much sense and was the preferred alternative because it meant she wasn't dead. She was awfully damn solid for being a figment of his imagination, though.

He could have gotten lost in the mess of thoughts rolling around in his head, but his hand sought the hem of her shirt, his fingers snaking under the material to where Noah had stabbed her. He wasn't surprised the wound was healed, he'd been the one to heal it after all, but his fingers traced the slight scar where the blade had sliced her skin.

"I'm not a ghost, Liz. I'm here."

It was a rather inopportune time to feel Michael's presence, but he felt it, felt Michael somewhere nearby, and yet entirely out of reach. He ignored it for the moment, preferring to focus on Liz and refute the idea that if they were both Dead maybe Michael was too.

"I do" She replied, her hands moving from his cheek to his pants. Without saying a word she began to search his pockets for the letter she knew would be on his person somewhere.

If this was any other time this could be taken in a sexual way and she would play it up that way as she brushed against the front of his pants and he brushed his hand against her stomach but now wasn't the time for that. She shivered a little bit as his fingers touched her scar, a little smile crossing her lips. The day he healed that wound for her had been a pretty special one before it all went to hell and he killed himself to bring her sister back. She would always have that scar as a reminder of their first time together.

"A ghost could never make me feel like you did just by touching my scar" She pointed out as she stuck in her hand into pocket number three of his. "Ah ha! Found it" Pulling it out, she opened it up and moved to stand beside him as she shone the light down on it. "Read this. It'll explain everything"

"You getting fresh with me, Ortecho?" Max asked as she patted down his pockets. The fact was, the way she brushed against him and the heat from her touch made him feel a rush of heat like a coil of electricity deep in his core. This was neither the time nor the place to act on that impulse, though, so he made a joke of it.

And then she was telling him to read a letter. The light caused halos to appear on the paper, and it took a concentrated effort from him to read the printed words in the awkward shadows. He read it twice, then looked up at her. "So...this is what? Purgatory?"

He'd never heard of it referred to as Goodland before. He'd have to find out how she died and how Michael died, since his presence was coming in strong for Max, yet he couldn't feel Isobel at all. He blinked and pinched the bridge of his nose, and the appearance of Noah some several feet away only confirmed Max's suspicions, since he had no idea what was happening, or where he was. Purgatory made sense, though he felt Noah should have gone straight to hell for all the shit he'd pulled.

"Get out mind out of the gutter, Evans" She joked back with a smile on her face and a shake of her head. He wasn't the only one feeling things and resisting them. Why did she have a feeling that they'd be jumping each other's bones as soon as they were out of there? If they made it out there. She wasn't so sure they would.

When he assumed it was purgatory, she shook her head as she put the letter into her pocket so he could read it later in a better light if he wanted to ( even, providing they actually got out of there ). "No. It's an alternate universe. A pocket dimension if you will. That's the best I've got because I haven't quite figured this place out yet and no one will give me the answers I want" She explained, about to say more when she heard Noah's voice.

Instinctively, she clung to Max as she shone the light towards their mutual enemy. "As far as him and this place goes? I don't know what to tell you. I've been stuck here for days. Michael too because he came in to rescue me" She paused as a light went on. "Oh! I should let him know you're here" Keeping the light on Noah so they could keep an eye on him, she put a post on the voice network out to him and awaited his reply.

Max glowered at Noah while he listened to Liz and Michael talk. Noah had things to say, offering his opinion that Liz and Michael were probably going at it the moment they shoved Max in the pod back in Roswell. Why wouldn't they, Max was out of the way.

Max unleashed a jolt of kenetic energy borne of his frustration and annoyance at Noah, effectively shutting the apparition up and blinking him out of existence at least for a little while. Max arched his brow at Liz as she finished up with Michael, and Max could feel Michael's presence getting closer.

"So, you two seem pretty chummy," he said as Liz's posture shifted and she was done talking to Michael.

Liz didn't hear anything that Noah said because she was focused on what Michael was saying, concern on her voice and on her face when he said he hurt his hand. Of course, he did. Now the question was did he do it on purpose or was it an accident? She intended to find out if they got out of theer and get the truth out of him. Or try to. Getting the truth out of Michael Guerin was hard but she was Liz Ortecho and she liked a challenge.

As the conversation wrapped up, she watched as Noah disappeared again and she breathed out a sigh of relief. With him gone, she could put the phone back on the two of them so they could see each other. "We've become better friends since arrived here and I invited him to live with me" She replied with a shrug of her shoulders, not quite reading between the lines of what he said. She really no reason to.

"You live...together." Maybe there was some truth to things Noah was saying. Max didn't want to believe it, but he also couldn't blame Liz. He would entirely blame Michael for taking advantage of her. The only problem with that logic was that he would have been grieving too. Not only for Max, but for his mother, and the answers that died with Noah.

"If you...I mean. It's cool. I'll..." Max shrugged. He couldn't believe they were having this conversation in absolute darkness. "I mean, I was dead, right? Makes sense you'd move on." He made a silent vow to kill Michael if he so much as hurt a single hair on Liz's head.

"He had to go somewhere when he got here and let's be real, I'm one of the only people around here who knows how to handle him" She pointed out, seeing no issue with them being roommates.

Michael Guerin was a lot to take on a good day and it took a special kind of person to be able to tolerate him on a daily basis. She'd become one of those special people when they worked together day in and day out to bring back Isobel. During that time, she'd become rather fond of him and that fondness that had grown since he arrived in Goodland with her and they began living together. Nowadays, she has his back and he had hers and she wouldn't have it any other way.

Her eyebrows furrowed when he talked about her moving on. "Moved on? What?" She repeated, taking in what he said. It was then that she connected all of it and she shook her head. "Max, no. I haven't moved on. Not with Michael, not with anyone. I care about him, yes, but it's you that I love. You're it for me" She reassured him, her eyes looking into his as she reached up and touched his face again. "We're just friends. I promise you"

Max knew as well as anyone how difficult Michael could be. How it took someone special to be able to handle him. If anyone could keep him in line, it would be Liz. He'd seen it happen when they'd been working to save Isobel.

"I just..." he started, and stopped when his brain worked out what she'd said. 'It's you that I love'. He blinked at her, vision severely compromised in the darkness. There was a feeling of mystery, of uncertainty, because of the setting. but the message spoke to his heart and soul.

Nothing else mattered.

"I..." he said, but interrupted his declaration of love for her by kissing her hard, possessive, on the lips.

She stayed quiet as she processed what she just said. It was the first time she'd used the word 'love' with him so it was a huge deal, she knew that. She also knew she'd been ready to say it to him for a long time and that she didn't say it just to assure him that she wasn't interested in his brother. She loved him with her whole body, mind, and soul and it was about damn time he knew it.

She expected some speech out of him in return but when he was rendered speechless, she found that to be so endearing. When his lips touched hers, she closed the space between them and returned his kiss, turning it passionate. And just like that, it was like they were in the desert again having their first kiss. Nothing else mattered but the two of them and everything around them faded away as they made out.

And then, of course, Michael Guerin had to roll on up and ruin the moment. Pulling away, Liz groaned a little bit when she heard his voice and put her forehead on Max's chest. "Hi Mikey" She mumbled into it as she hung onto him.

"Jesus, you two. Get a room," Michael said as he rounded a corner and approached Max and Liz. He rolled his eyes, though that likely wasn't immediately obvious in the dark of the maze.

He carried a flashlight in his right hand, his left arm was pulled in close to his chest in an effort to protect his injured hand. "And you," he said to someone who wasn't actually there, "are not invited to this reunion." His posture shifted and a blast of his power sent Noah flying into the black unknown.

"Hey, Lizzie," he greeted his friend once Noah was dealt with. "Maxie," he added, smirking as Max enveloped him in a hug. They weren't huggers. it just wasn't a thing they did, but just this once Michael didn't object. And in fact, he swung his good arm out to pull Liz into the embrace.

Lifting her head, she turned when he spoke to Noah and she held onto Max a little bit tighter.

She knew he was likely a figment of the maze and that he wasn't really real but his presence was enough to bring the fear out from her. This whole damn maze was full of scary things and she hated every second of it. She couldn't only hope ( atleast for a second ) that she could get out of there now that she was with Max and Michael. If anyone could get out there, it was the three of them.

She stepped aside while the brothers embraced, a breath of relief leaving her lips as she watched them. Yes, it was going to be alright now that they were all together. She smiled when Michael opened up the hug to her and she stepped in closer, wrapping her arms around both of her boys in a trio hug. This was probably the first and only time this would happen so she was going to savor it while she could.

Hell, even as the three way hug was happening, Michael was planning to deny it it ever occurred. That was just how he was. He tended to stamp down anything that even vaguely resembled an expression of emotion.

After a moment, he pulled back, and Max followed his lead, but kept an arm around Liz. "We gotta get the hell out of here," Michael stated. As if that wasn't obvious.
