Ella & Jo
What: Dancing and Drinking
Where: A club in the city
When: Saturday night
Warnings: Language likely
Status: OPEN if anyone wants to join them! (Just poke Misha or Shalane!)
Ella liked to let loose and act like she didn't have a care in the world even though that was pretty far from the truth. Ella had a lot of cares in the world. There were a lot of things that bugged her, a lot of things that could get her riled up. But she had a devil-may-care reputation, she was known for throwing caution to the wind and just doing whatever she felt like doing. Most of it was an act, but one she was dedicated to performing.

Jo was one of her biggest challenges. Her best friend knew her as well as, if not better than, she knew herself. Jo could see right through the illusions the moment Ella let her guard down. She had to be extra wild and carefree with Jo in order to maintain the facade of not giving a shit about anything. She didn't always succeed, but she was determined tonight she would let her hair down and just have fun.

They weren't trapped in Porter anymore, after all. What better place to let go than New York? Even if it was a fake version, it was their current home. And Ella was going to enjoy it. "Are you ready yet? Girl, you don't even have enough hair to fuss over! Let's go!" Ella chided. She stood at the door, ready to get the hell out of the apartment for a few hours.

Sometimes Jo wondered why she and Ella were best friends, and this was one of those times. Ella knew very well that Jo was a homebody and preferred to stay inside on the weekends. On the other hand, Ella was definitely more of the wild child type, but neither of them bothered each other too much about it. But once in awhile, Jo would try and get Ella to stay home. Or vice versa, Ella would try and get Jo to go out.

Tonight was definitely the latter. Jo had plans to watch something on this Netflix thing, eat some takeout, and maybe a glass of wine. Something simple. But no, Ella kept insisting they go out and after awhile, Jo conceded. There went her nice and quiet evening. At least they came to an agreement - that Jo would only go out for an hour and she would only have a couple drinks. Nothing more.

She had put on a simple cute dress - not short as she told Ella, she didn't want to attract any unwanted attention - and was fixing her hair. "Oh, shush! You're lucky I even agreed to this," she yelled back. She quickly adjusted her bangs and sighed, figuring it was good enough and headed out into the living room.

"Okay, I'm ready now," she grabbed her purse before following Ella out the door.

Ella grinned on her way out the door. She strutted ahead of Jo, knowing her friend would follow. They were polar opposites in almost every way, and yet their friendship was thick as thieves. Ella had spent some time away from Jo, sure, but she couldn't imagine her life without Jo in it in some capacity.

They'd been friends for as long as she could remember. She didn't want to think about how depressive her life in Porter would have been without Jo. For all the crap she gave the other woman, Ella did love her like a sister.

Once they were out of the elevator, Ella linked her arm in Jo's. She didn't care if people thought they were a couple. She told herself she didn't care what other people thought of her at all. She tried to instill that lack of care and concern in Jo.

"We're gonna have so much fun tonight, Jo."

Jo wondered too what her life would be like without Ella in it. Probably the same, but maybe a bit less boring. As much as she liked things to be nice and quiet, it never hurted to have some fun once in awhile, and Ella was the only one who usually got Jo to do it. She also liked to think she did the same, that she made sure Ella didn't get too out of control.

"Well, I already had a fun evening plan, but guess we'll see," Jo replied as she entered the elevator. She supposed dancing would be kind of fun, even if it wasn't in her original plans. She liked dancing at least. Drinking, she was okay with too, but not getting completely wasted.

They made it to the lobby - the ostriches were still strange to Jo - and headed out. Since she hadn't really been out much, she let Ella lead the way to one of the local clubs.

Ella didn't mind the ostriches. They were just another weird factor of this weird fake New York that was as far from Porter as she could get. If ostriches in the lobby was the price she had to pay to escape Porter once and for all, she'd take it.

Once in the club, Ella led the way to the bar to order drinks for the both of them. She ordered, then turned her back to the bar to lean against while waiting for the drinks to be made. "See, it's not so bad is it?" The bar was crowded, but not over crowded. There were a few empty tables, several people on the dance floor.

Ella was one of the few people that Jo would let get a drink for her. David was the other, of course. She trusted them more than anyone else and if it was some random stranger, she would've rejected it. Plus, Ella knew what drinks she did like and she knew whatever her bff ordered, she'd enjoy it.

"Not really, no," she admitted, watching the people dance and mingle. "A tad too loud, but I can deal with that." She did say she'd only go out for an hour. She could handle that. "And at least those damn frogs are leaving us alone for the moment."

She shuddered. Jo absolutely hated frogs. And having one constantly jump on her shoulder and tell her bad jokes made her shriek every time.

"Tell me again why we're friends," Ella said, though it was rhetorical. They were friends because...well, she wasn't sure she could put it into words. She loved Jo like a sister. That was it. That was what kept her coming back. Jo was the sister she never had; someone who accepted her as she was, indulged her and kept her from going off the rails.

"I guess music is the answer to shutting them up," Ella said. She turned around and accepted the drinks. She sipped hers and passed the other over to Jo. "Cheers."

"I ask myself that every day," Jo joked. She didn't, not really. She was aware of how opposite they were and if it was anyone else, she wouldn't have continued with the relationship. But this was Ella, someone she'd known for a long time. She wasn't going to leave just because they had different interests.

"If I'd known that, I would've blasted music all the time." She had definitely considered getting one of those new headphones (earphones?) a couple times. It wouldn't really stop the frogs from coming in, though. At most, it'll just shut their voices out. She wanted to get rid of them entirely.

But they weren't here and she did promise Ella she'd try and enjoy herself. So she shoved the frogs from her mind and raised her glass. "Cheers," she grinned and took a sip.

Ella just grinned at Jo. She loved the nights she was able to drag Jo out and make her experience a small fraction of Ella's typical lifestyle. Ella was wild and carefree, she tried to act like she didn't have a care in the world. It was nice, in her opinion, to get Jo to let loose with her.

She also had no intention of letting Jo go back to the boring old apartment after only an hour. She was hoping to make a long night of this adventure. That meant dancing.

"Let's dance," she said, tugging on Jo's arm to try and pull her to the dance floor.

Jo would never admit it, but it was nice to go out and just have fun once in awhile. She'd never completely let go like Ella did, but getting the chance to relax and have a good time, even just an hour, was a good thing. As long as she got back on track later, she didn't see much harm in it.

"I was wondering when you're gonna ask," she grinned, letting her bff pull her to the dance floor. Ella had told her to put on her dancing shoes. And truth be told, Jo actually did like dancing, and it wasn't very long before she was moving along to the music with Ella.

Ella was shameless on the dance floor. She'd grind up against Jo without thinking about it. She was just that kind of person. She didn't worry about how it might embarrass Jo, if anyone made comments about it or said anything to Jo, Ella would set them straight. She could harass and annoy Jo all she wanted, but no one else could.

After a couple songs she led them back to the table to sit for a few minutes, and enjoy their drinks. "This is fun. I'm glad you decided to come with me. Wouldn't be as much fun without you."

Jo wasn't surprised. She knew it was just Ella's way of dancing, but she didn't mind. It wasn't her personal favorite, but she didn't stop Ella and even went along with it. She didn't grind back or anything like that but she kept dancing anyway.

As much as she enjoyed dancing, there was only so much she could do before she had to rest. So she was quite glad to get a break. "I'm glad too. I forgot how much dancing is," she grinned, taking a quick drink. "And psh, I'm sure you still would've had fun if I wasn't here."

"Not as much fun," Jo said. Part of the fun was making Jo step out of her comfort zone. Ella would never put her in danger or make her do anything risky or ridiculous. But dancing at the club? Oh yeah.

"You don't really want to go home do you? It's so boring."

"Uh huh," Jo said, giving her a look of disbelief. That didn't last too long, though, because she did believe Ella was telling the truth. But she had to admit, dancing was always quite fun. As long as Ella didn't make her do anything else, which she highly doubted she would, Jo was having a good time.

"It's not that boring. It's nice and relaxing. It'd probably be better if David was here." One of her favorite things to do was watching a movie and cuddling up to him. But he wasn't here and as much as she wished he'd show up, she was starting to lose hope that he would. She didn't know what she'd do then, but she'd figured it out when it happened.

"Maybe one more dance and I might call it a night." She did say she'd only go out for an hour and it was a bit past that already.

Ella enjoyed pushing Jo's buttons, and making her step out of her comfort zone, but she'd never ask or insist Jo do something that was truly out of her league. She'd encourage her to drink, but she wouldn't pressure her to the point of it being uncomfortable. She actually loved Jo like a sister and respected her, even if sometimes it didn't seem that way.

"David is a stick in the mud, Jo." Ella rolled her eyes. "You're better off without him. Besides, you've got me." She grinned, and took Jo's hand. "Okay, let's dance then."

Jo was about to open her mouth to argue, to say David wasn't a stick in the mud nor that she was better off without him. That she was right where she belonged when she was by his side. But she didn't because it was a moot point. Ella just didn't understand and probably wouldn't anytime soon, though Jo still held on to the hope that she'd meet someone and finally get it.

"Well, you're right about one thing, I do have you." And she'd have no idea what she'd do here without Ella around. She definitely wouldn't have been able to handle it was well as she had been so far. She returned the smile and let Ella pull her back onto the dance floor.
