Michael Guerin & Liz Ortecho
What: Mikey's back in town (but doesn't remember being here before)
Where: Outside the apartments
When: Saturday early evening
Warnings: Will update if necessary
Status: OPEN
He'd read the note six times already, and dutifully ignored the frog telling jokes at his feet. It didn't make any more sense than the first time he'd read it. Goodland? Jubilant Entity? The words weren't complicated, the message wasn't complicated, and yet...it didn't make sense. He couldn't be here. He hadn't even finished building the console, so how...

He gripped the paper so tightly that it crumpled under his fingers. His knuckles were white from the stress of his grip. And damn if his left hand didn't still hurt like a bitch. He took the paper into his right hand and shook the left out. Max might have healed his decade old injury, but the joints were still stiff.

Max. He tilted his head, feeling an odd sensation. His telepathy with Max and Isobel wasn't as strong as what the so called twins shared, but he felt the faint buzz of his brother nearby. He tilted his head trying to hone in on Max's location. He didn't realise at the moment he couldn't feel Isobel at all.

"Bajate" She snapped at the frog that had hopped onto her shoulder, smacking it off as soon as she felt it.

She was sure it was telling her some kind of joke but she wasn't about that constant joke life and didn't care to hear it. Thank God for her airpods so she could tune them out. She was going through so many of her playlists that week but she didn't count that as a bad thing because of how much she loved music. Thank you Rosa for passing that onto her. It was the only thing keeping her sane at the moment.

She was out that night grabbing dinner for herself and Max when she came across someone that made her smile instantly. "Mikey!" She called out as she moved over to him, taking the airpods out as she did.

No one called him Mikey. He didn't even use the nickname Mike. He didn't care much for nicknames in general. But he knew that voice, and he looked up with a hand raised to his forehead to shield the glare of the sun to confirm his suspicions.

"Lizzie!" he replied impulsively. If she was using a nickname for him, then he was going to throw one right back at her. Even though he wasn't really sure he and Liz were even friends, it was some measure of normal, which he desperately needed.

If nothing else, seeing a familiar face eased the tension in him at least slightly. He was on the verge of a panic attack, which meant his telekensis was going to wreck havoc with anything that wasn't nailed down in a half mile radius. He really didn't want to do that, and was struggling to keep it from happening.

"I never authorized use of that nickname" She teased him as she walked over to him. e didn't authorize her calling him Mikey so she supposed it was only fair that he got to call her Lizzie. Though just because it was fair didn't mean she was going to accept it easily. That was not the Liz Ortecho way.

Getting closer, she saw the piece of paper in his hand and the way his body was tensed up. She knew him well enough to know that none of the vibes she was getting from him was good. Right away she went from teasing and playful to concerned friend. "We need to get you back to my place before things get out of control" She told him, gently taking his arm to lead him towards the apartments.

"Fucking frogs" She muttered as she nudged one away with her foot as they waled.

"I'm fine, Lizzie," he said, keeping up the nickname trend because it was something to focus on besides the confusion. He didn't want to lose control, didn't want to cause a scene, call attention to himself. He felt a little better because Liz was there, but he was far from calm and controlled. He was hanging on by a very thin thread.

"The hell is with the frogs?" he asked. He very nearly used his mind to flick one away, but thought better of it. Even such a small gesture was risky when he was feeling like the world was spinning out around him. He needed to conserve energy, keep the reigns pulled in tight to prevent unleashing it all.

"No you're not" She told him, still dragging him towards the building. The sooner they got him inside the better and she wasn't going to take no for an answer. She rather things in her and Max's apartment floated or got broken. Things could be replaced. She'd rather not risk him exposing himself by doing anything out in the open. Better safe than sorry.

"It's the Jubilant Entity's latest round of bullshittery. Should be over soon. These things usually don't last long" She explained as they got into the building and into the elevator. "Everything in the letter is true, believe or not" She told him, nodding down to it.

"Liz. I'm not some immature child who's going to lose control of myself just because I'm suddenly in a completely different city on the other side of the country." It was absurd. He must be dreaming or something. It was a weird ass dream, but he'd had weirder dreams.

The damn frog jumped up on Michael's shoulder and started a 'knock knock' joke. Michael mentally flicked it off his shoulder without even thinking about what he was doing.

"Or so you say" She replied, giving him a pointed look as the doors closed. She let go of his arm once they were in the elevator as she pushed the button to go to her floor. Stepping back, watched as she frog zoomed off of Michael's shoulder by sheer force of his mind. She didn't even care if the thing was hurt. Right now she really hated frogs. "Max is here, but I'm sure you already know that" From the way she understood their powers, the three of them were so connected that they could always feel each other if they tried. Like a permanent handprint.

Michael's ability to sense, feel, and mentally communicate with Max and Isobel wasn't as strong as the bond Max and Isobel had to each other, but it was there. It was undeniable. And the fact Liz mentioned Max but not Isobel all but confirmed his sister wasn't in this crazy messed up dream town.

He nodded. "Yeah. I can feel him." And the confirmation that Max was actually there allowed Michael to relax somewhat. He kind of felt like he'd never fully relax again, but he tended to live on the edge of a panic attack anyway.

"I don't sense Isobel, though."

"She hasn't arrived yet" Liz replied with a shake of her head as she plucked a frog off of her head, a 'ew' look on her face as she did. When would the madness end? Seriously? She was sick of these damn frogs! She muttered something in Spanish as she set it down on the ground then she stood up and wiped her hand on her pants as she looked over at him. "Maria used to be here but she disappeared two weeks ago" She told him, looking away to see what number the elevator was on. One more and they'd be on her floor.

If Maria had been here, maybe Alex...Michael silenced that thought as soon as it started. His feelings for Alex, and for Maria for that matter, were a train wreck. He needed to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. Problem was, if Alex was around that wouldn't be possible.

He absentmindedly flexed his left hand.

"Disappeared? That doesn't sound good. You look for her?" he asked. His feelings for DeLuca were just as mucked up as his feelings for Alex.

She shook her head as the number went up and the elevator stopped. "When the Entity sends people away, they're nowhere to be found here. They go back home and life their lives like they never left. Or at least that's how I understand it" She explained as she walked out, nodding for him to follow her.

Maybe if Michael could come back, maybe Maria could. She wasn't the hoping kind but at this moment she hoped maybe that was true. She missed having Maria around.

Pulling out her key, she unlocked the door once they got to it and walked in. "Max is still at work but he'll be home soon. I was out getting out us some food when I ran into you" She would have just call in take out now but that was no problem. She just didn't feel like cooking that night.

Max and Liz's apartment was a good combination of the both of them, though maybe a little more Liz in the decorating with Max's books scattered all over the place. He already had quite the collection here.

"I'm sure he won't be surprised to find me here. he'll know I'm here long before he gets home." He wasn't actually sure how far the psychic link between them was active. Maybe to the ends of the earth, for all he knew. Was this even earth? That he didn't know.

He followed Liz into the apartment. Yeah, he could see Max's influence in the scattered books, if nothing else. Michael wondered if Max would ever write the book he claimed was inside him, or just read what other people already wrote.

"Speaking of food, though, I'm hungry. And thirsty. You got any beer?" Surely Max had some. And surely he wouldn't mind if Michael helped himself...

"I got a little taste of that when his handprint on me and I won't lie, I'm a little envious that you have that all the time with him" She admitted as they walked in. Setting her keys by the door, she took her coat and shoes off as she listened to him.

"Go ahead and raid the fridge. There are leftovers in there if you can't wait for the food to get here. I'm going to call and order something" She told him as she pulled out her phone while she walked into the kitchen to pull out their collection of take out menus. While she did prefer to cook, sometimes she didn't feel like it.

"We have a spare room if you want it" She offered as she pull the menus out and began looking through them.

"Nah, I can wait for delivery," he told her. He didn't comment on the psychic bond he had with Max, because what was the point? Max could give her a hand print and make an active link for a short while. Michael had it 24/7. "Sorry if I interrupted your quest for food," he added. He did feel a little bad about that. Not bad enough to offer to pay or anything, though.

He opened the fridge to look for beer. He'd be very disappointed in his brother if there wasn't any to be had.

"I'll take it, at least until I figure something else out." He wasn't sure he and Max would thrive under the same roof. They had never lived together. It might be fine, it might be awkward.

The psychic link talk was just a passing comment anyway. She didn't expect to have a whole conversation about it so she was fine that he didn't respond back.

And of course, there was beer in there. Max likes to have a bottle or two after work to relax and she liked to have it right alongside him so Liz always made sure there were some in there. Everything else was pretty standard with everything carefully labeled because Liz was that kind of person. She just couldn't help it.

"No big deal. I mostly just wanted to get out of the house. I never know what to do when I take a Saturday off" She replied with a shrug as she picked out a menu. Her taking Saturdays off were rare. She preferred to work six days a week instead of five but sometimes Tony forced her to have a day off and she knew better than to argue with her boss.

"Mi casa es su casa then" She told him before she put the phone to her ear and began ordering

"Probably would have stayed in if you knew you'd run into me, huh?" Michael gave her an impish look. They had a tumultuous past to be sure, but he thought they were friends. Or at least close to friends, now. She had helped him get his bearings, and now he had a beer, so he was content. Things were good between them.

He fell quiet as she placed the order and just sipped his beer. The damned frog jumped on his shoulder and told him a stupid alien centric joke. Michael rolled his eyes at it and flicked it off his shoulder. Never mind that talking frogs were an anomaly, frogs that told jokes were just creepy little fuckers.

"I should have just went running the other way when I saw you" She sassed playfully with a smile on her face. From him threatening her to being lab partners to being friends, the two of them had come a long way since she came back to Roswell all those months ago. And honestly, she wouldn't have it any other way because she liked having him for a friend. He wasn't that bad once she got past how much of a pain in the ass he could be.

Once she finished with the food, she grabbed a beer of her own and sat down on the couch. "Thirty minutes or we get it free" She told him, checking the time on her phone. "So what's the last thing that happened for you?" She wondered as she put her phone down and turned towards him.

"Noah tried to kill me. Max healed me." Maybe there was more. Maybe he wasn't sure how much he wanted to say.

"You should have run the other way," Michael said. He grinned. "But you didn't and now you're stuck with me." He could be a pain in the ass. Sometimes he was a jerk just to be a jerk. Sometimes, most of the time, it was to protect himself.

He hadn't had the stability and support of a real family during his most formative years. Sometimes he subconsciously pushed people away to protect himself because he didn't know how to form strong bonds with people. He only had to look at the train wreck that was his relationship with the man he loved to see that.

She titled her head when he told her what happened to him that night.

Noah tried to kill him and Max healed him too? It seemed Noah had gone on quite the rampage that night and tried to take many down with him. Thank God for Max and his healing ability. "Funny, that same thing happened to me. He got me with a knife in the gut" She wasn't going to say that Max healed it while they were making love for the first time because there were just some things that didn't need to be talked about with his brother.

"I'll manage somehow" Liz replied with a shrug and a grin of her own.

The two of them were a lot more alike than they realized. He didn't know form strong bonds and pushed people away, she was afraid of getting hurt so she put up her armor and didn't let anyone in. They were almost kindred spirits that way.

"Jabbed me in the neck with the broken syringe that had the antidote in it before Max ruined it." Michael knew now he'd been foolish to think Noah was too weak to put up a fight, but in his defense he had tried to get Max to work with him. It wasn't his fault Max was too blind to see that Noah was their best shot at finding out where they came from. Noah had been an adult when the ship crashed. He could have told them everything. But he was dead, and all the prisoners the united states government kept at the prison were dead. There wasn't anyone left who could tell them anything.

Michael was extremely bitter about that. He'd spent a good portion of his childhood looking for answers and hoping for a rescue that would never come. Max and Isobel had each other, and parents who raised them and included them in the idea of family. They didn't understand what it was like for Michael. Sure, the three of them were like family, but it was different for him. He was always on the outside, always looking in. He wasn't part of the solid family unit. He was, for all intents and purposes, alone.

And then he'd seen his mother in the prison. And then he'd run like a coward and left her to die in the ruins of the building when it went into self destruct mode. He didn't even consider that she, or any of the others, might have survived, because the government wouldn't allow that. The prison would have been designed, or redesigned, to ensure complete annihilation of everyone and everything inside. He'd lost her the same moment he'd found her, and it wasn't fair.

Michael sighed. If his life had taught him anything, it was that nothing was fair. Nothing at all.

Liz's eye went wide when he talked about getting stabbed in the neck with the syringe that had her antidote in it. Right away she felt guilty and at fault for the fact that he got stabbed because she was the one that left it with Max. He'd insisted on it so she wouldn't have the guilt of Noah dying on her shoulders because she refused to use the antidote for the serum coursing through him. He had died and not because of her serum but now she had a whole other reason to feel guilty about that night.

"Michael ... I'm so sorry" She spoke up him, her hand reaching out to touch him before she recoiled it realizing he wasn't a touchy-feely person. "I left the syringe there with Max before I for the night" She told him, indicating that she felt at fault for what happened to him. Maybe if she'd taken it with her, he wouldn't have gotten stabbed.

He wasn't a touchy feely person under normal circumstances. He'd been known to balk from unwanted, unsolicited touch before. He might have tensed the moment she reached out, but he didn't out right resist her. She wasn't someone he needed to reject out of hand.

"I don't doubt he guilted you into leaving it with him. I tried to get him to work with me, he refused, and I grabbed the syringe from him. He shot it so I couldn't use it on Noah. Michael shuddered. "I wanted him to give me answers, to tell me where we came from. I just. I hate not knowing."

And that hatred, that uncertainty was a million times worse now that he'd seen his mother. Now that he'd connected with her, and felt her love for him. He hadn't shared that with anyone, only Alex knew because Alex was there when it happened. Alex had seen him at his most vulnerable, and if it hadn't been for Alex Michael would have stayed and died right there with his mother, separated by the glass he couldn't break.

She nodded her head in understanding when he said he just wanted to know where he came from because he hated not knowing. She couldn't blame him in the slightest because if she'd been in his position, she would want to know where she came from too and what happened before she came out of her pod as a child.

"I'm sorry all of your answers died with him" She told him with a frown, assuming he knew by now that Noah died. Question was, did he know about Max? She bit her lip for a minute as she debated bring it up. The only way to find out if he knew was to talk about it, right? Tears welled up in her eyes just thinking about it and her voice wavered with emotion as she spoke. "And that your brother died bringing back my sister"

If he didn't already know, he did now.

Michael drew a shaking breath. "I know. I felt it." He had felt his psychic connection to Max fade out. He hadn't realised exactly what it meant at the time, but he now knew it meant Max was dead. He hadn't always seen eye to eye with Max, but he couldn't imagine his life without Max in it.

"I didn't know about Rosa, though." He'd seen her in Noah's pod, so he knew she was there. He didn't know how the hell Noah got her in there, but that wasn't important just now. "Is she...I mean..." He shook his head. He didn't know exactly what he meant. Asking if Rosa was okay seemed too vague.

She nodded her head in response to his question. "She's understandably confused but she's otherwise okay. I didn't get the chance to really explain everything to her before I came here" She curled her legs up as she continued, her chin going onto her knees with her dark hair falling over them. "Max put his mark on me hours before and when I felt it happen, it followed the feeling to the cave. Rosa was the one that came out, not Max. I thought I was seeing a ghost at first but the second my arms were around her, I knew it was real. It only took me few seconds to connect the dots and ask her where Max was ... "

"He always has to be the martyr," Michael sighed. It wasn't entirely accurate. He'd done his fair share of martyring as well. But the title fit Max better than it fit him. He was a selfish prick, Max was always trying to do right by everyone around him.

"Sometimes he's just a dumb jerk," Michael added. His love for Max knew no bounds, they were brothers after all. Sort of. Brothers in a shared experience that built families out of nothing. He'd always love Max. But their personalities clashed often, and they fought more than they didn't fight.
