WHO: Ellie & Gwen (grumpy&pinky)
WHERE: Ellie (and Barry and Nora)'s Apartment
WHEN: Thursday mid/late afternoon
WHAT: Besties hanging out, bad flirting and girls probably being obvious.
WARNINGS: PGish
STATUS: In Progress

Living with Barry and Nora was a lot calmer than the seventh floor. It wasn't the Ellie minded having a lot of kids around, even being among the oldest, she was used to it at the school, but it was nice to feel like she had her own place, and a single guardian. Barry was fun, and Nora seemed really nice.

It was definitely easier to hang out with Gwen when she wasn't at school and then surrounded by other teens with their own crap. And Ellie got it, but it was really nice to have her own space after school.

She'd thrown a pizza into the oven, gotten out all the soda she could think of out. It was a bit like Friday the 13th, but without all the minor bad luck or Gwen's injuries. "How're you holding up then? After, y'know, the tumble down the stairs?" Gwen really took a fall, and Ellie had been worried, although now that all the bad luck had dried up it seemed like Gwen was back on good form.

At first, Gwen hadn't been sure about hanging out at Ellie's new place. Not for Ellie reasons of course, but because there would be a guardian shaped person around. She never really hit it off with the parental types and wasn't necessarily surprised by that. The former merc lacked tact, a brain to mouth filter, and pretty much all of the other qualities one might associate with a 'bad influence'. Barry had actually been pretty cool though and after a couple of visits, Gwen found herself comfortable in the apartment.

She was a little lost when it came to the whole having a life thing, but that was parr for the course. She never really had a life before her venture into the Marvel Universe. Most of her days, after dropping out of school, were spent locked away in her room reading comics/playing video games/watching anime. Sure, it had been lonely at times but being a loner? Well, that had been Gwen's brand.

Things had changed in that department since coming to Goodland. She had a real-life job and had even managed to make a few friends along the way. And Ellie? She was at the top of that list. "All better. No more boo-boos to kiss," she said with a smirk and reached for one of the cans of soda. "So, how was school?" God. She sounded like a parent. What the actual f!@#?

So far, Ellie was sure that Barry was pretty laid back and easy going, it was something like the mentors at the school. That quiet and steady support without much judgement or interference. "That's good to hear," nothing had helped to ease Ellie into this guardianship better than knowing that Barry was fine with her having friends over and that she could do something to help when needed, "I'm not really cut out for the nursing profession."

With a can each, Ellie grabbed for the remote to turn on the TV, looking for something relatively mindless to put on while they hung out, "It's okay," and it was okay, she'd gotten through the whole 'mean girls' thing from the first week of class, dealt with kids trying to intimidate her or just being mean needlessly, "I'm not doing the classes I want to, because they don't offer them, but it's not terrible." There was a different selection at Xavier's, which made sense given the students and the teachers.

"Thank god I didn't need to take drama. There's no way I'd be able to take that seriously at all."

"Are you sure? Because I still think I could find you a black candy striper uniform," she teased and waggled her eyebrows like a cartoon character.

Part of her wished she would have been able to play the furthering of her education game. Sure, she might not have experienced all of her stellar growth as a person, but hey, at least she would have an education right? "'Okay' is good." If Ellie had said she hated it, or that anyone had been a vapid bitch toward her, Gwen probably would have kicked some serious ass. She knew the other girl was more than capable of taking care of herself, but in an unlikely turn of events? She found herself quick to jump to the defense of someone she cared about. This recent development was interesting, to say the least. Selfish to a fault, it surprised her every time the instinct to help crept up on her. If her life were a sitcom, there would be some slow music playing to indicate the teaching moment. Hmmm, maybe she was getting a different kind of education here in Goodland.

"What classes did you take ye ole Institute?" Gwen was genuinely interested in hearing about life at Xavier's. A lot of that probably had to do with the X-Men being some of her favorites, but she also wanted to know more about Ellie.

"Oh I don't know, I'd pay money to see you in a play."

"I thought we agreed we were saving that for Halloween?" But Ellie was already laughing at Gwen's semi-ridiculous eyebrow wiggle.

Ellie doubted that school was ever going to be as interesting as the Institute, given that there was no scheduled 'Danger Room' time so that they could practice their powers, "Advanced Chemistry, robust Engineering, which was just Hank teaching us how to make our own silly inventions, Ethics, and Literature Studies." They had the normal classes too, English and Math and Geography and all that. "Gym is way more interesting there."

Given that they have Piotr and Hank throwing things at them to really challenge their powers. "I'm so bad, the last time I did a play it was the Nativity in pre-school."

"Just letting you know the option is still there," she replied and laughed along with the other girl. Halloween was going to be epic though, especially because it may or may not be her first 'real' Halloween.

"Dude, I bet gym is wild. All of those powers jumping all over the place would make for a freakin' intense game of dodgeball." Gwen couldn't imagine how boring regular school must be compared to the Institute. That was a lie though wasn't it? She absolutely could imagine it, because she hadn't been able to tolerate the mundane nature of school. Xavier's though? Well, she could probably acclimate to it in no time.

"Oh, my gods. Now I have to hear about cute tiny Ellie in the Baby Jesus production!"
