Who:Cisco and Lydia
What:random stuff
When:Today
Where:their place

Cisco was pulling through the darkness that had consumed his entire being for the last week or so. It'd been a rough one. So many things had hit him all at once that he'd basically shut down and refused to human. Today was the first day he was able to human without the alarm. He even ditched his sweat pants he'd been living in for the last week. He wasn't quite back to work yet, but soon. He was aiming for the end of the week. He could see a light at the end of his miserable week. Dick's disappearance felt like someone had kicked the air out of his lungs. He wasn't able to do anything about it unlike with Barry and the speed force. Dick had just told him, he was stuck with him and then the rug was harshly yanked out from under his feet.

He'd even showered. Cisco managed to make a solid attempt of looking like a human again instead of an exhausted and sad shell of one that he'd been the last week. Dark hair was tied back as he lurked in the kitchen for a moment and peered into the fridge. He hadn't been too good with eating lately, though he was eating healthier things just the act of eating was exhausting to him. It still seemed like a daunting task. Lydia was coming home soon though, and he wanted to do something for her. Unure of how hungry she'd be, he ended up making a salad out of what was left in the fridge vegetable wise and prepared it with a bit of Latino flare. A chicken salad with cilantro and lime. A summery type of flavor for the end of it. Or what he hoped was the end, Cisco liked winter. Hoodies and hot drinks were his wheel house. Summer, not so much.

Classes were going well for Lydia, surprising no one that knew her. It still disturbed her that for all she knew, her classmates shut down or retreated to closets when she wasn't there, but they were alright for weird manifestations. The commute wasn't terrible (if you didn't count this past Friday's) and between class, work, and her friends at the Villa, her days were plenty full enough. Honestly, with all of the training she'd gotten in high school, she could have handled more, but that kind of energy could be expended when Goodland decided to mess with them again.

Getting off the train a few stops early, she'd ducked into a bakery and grabbed a dozen assorted cookies, throwing in a loaf of sourdough and some muffins for good measure before walking the rest of the way home. She was happy Cisco was feeling better—both for his mental state as well as hers and Stiles'. "Hello? Cookie delivery," she didn't know how far 'getting out of bed' accounted for, figuring it safer to announce her presence as she entered the apartment, "and alarm rescue."

Cisco glanced up from the food as he put a third bowl in the fridge for whenever Stiles got in. It was wrapped up and covered. It ought to last long enough. He hadn't done much all week, he'd initially thought of buying something for Lydia but he wasn't quite ready to go anywhere yet. Maybe when he went back to work he could manage a store or two. He'd had an earbud in his ears while working on the food, so the announcement was appreciated. He pulled one of them out.

"Hey. In here." An arm waved from the little kitchen. If Lydia had asked, Cisco would have denied he needed anyone and likely just laid in bed. She didn't ask, she just kept him company and that earned her about ten zillion brownie points in his eyes. He didn't know what to say,so he figured just showing her kindness might suffice. He wasn't as fancy of a cook as Barry might be, but he could hold his own in a kitchen.

Oh, good. He was even out of his room. Making a beeline for the counter, Lydia set her newly purchased goodies on the counter before slinging her messenger bag down onto the floor near the hallway to Stiles' room. Finally unburdened she took stock of the scene in front of her. Salad, or rather, two salads. Taking a seat in one of the stools, she raised an amused brow. "Are we sure you didn't swap bodies with someone?" Her fingers made a criss-cross motion to illustrate body-swapping as she teased him about the lack of pizza.

He was, he'd even cleaned up for her. Or well, both of them really. He'd been in such a bad space that even cleaning up was hard. Glancing over at the little baggy of something on the counter he looked up when she rejoined him. "I'm capable of making salad, Lydia. Unless you'd rather have pizza." He pulled out his new phone and threatened to dial a nearby spot that he had on speed dial. "It's really me though, no dopple in sight. That's a big thing on my Earth. Dopplegangers." He shrugged a he handed her a fork. "Want a drink?" He asked as he fished out a tea for himself from the fridge.

"I believe you can, I'm struggling with you doing it voluntarily," she teased, following his line of sight to the baggy for a second before getting distracted by his phone threat. "No, no. This looks really good, actually." Taking the fork, she waited to dig in until he was settled and eating. "Water's good. What's it like? The dopplegangers."

"Thought so." He smirked and stabbed at a vegetable. "Yeah well, apparently Barry's been sneaking me health food all along anyway. Guess I might as well try some of it willingly." The stuff Barry made wasn't so bad. Cisco just enjoyed being a pain in the ass sometimes. It amused him to watch Barry get all fidgety at him. "Evil. Well, mine anyway." He shrugged and stabbed a piece of chicken with a fork as he grabbed at waters for both of them. "They can be all different though. I just get really unlucky with them. And don't even get me started on what he named himself. Reverb." Cisco mocked, acting like the name alone set a bad taste in his mouth as he made a face. "He's dead anyway. Where we're from though the multiverse theory is not a theory and every Earth has a doppleganger on it and a slightly different reality than the last. On one Earth I could be Cisco the Janitor, and on the next Cisco the villain." He shrugged. "I've been to a few of them. My last girlfriend was from Earth nineteen. "

Lydia had enough manners to finish chewing and swallow before responding. "I remember some of that now. Barry said you guys were Earth 1. So, you clearly named yourselves and all of the other Earths." It sounded like there were a couple of people in Goodland who had alternates of their friends here. There wasn't proof back home that the multiverse wasn't real, but she felt reasonably sure that all of her people were the same ones she knew back home. Or else things might have been really awkward. "So how do you get between the universes? Are there any issues with jumping around between them?"

"We did yeah. They might call us something else, don't really know-but likely not. It doesn't seem like when we've traveled to them that they realize anything about the multiverse at all. Unless they run into their dopples lie we have." He shrugged. Somehow the dopples knew, but your average civilian? nope. In the dark. Cisco poked at a bit of the salad, it wasn't nearly as nice as pizza. Or a burger. "I'm imagining this salad is a cheeseburger about now. For the record." He smirked a little. As decent as it was, it was still just a salad. "Frequencies. Every planet has them. With my powers I can connect to them anywhere from any Earth. Everything has a frequency, that's why I got so overwhelmed getting here. The frequencies here are wonky as hell." He shrugged. "Portals, or as we call it-breaching. No problems unless my hands get damaged. Another reason arrival was so difficult. My hands were sliced apart. I couldn't sense anything. It was like arriving in the pitch black for me." Like cutting off whiskers of a cat, Cisco could't sense the world around him. He could physically see but it was hard to exist.

"I'm not trying to ruin your life with green foods," she pointed out. "You can eat a cheeseburger if that's what you want. I just think it might be better if you didn't eat a cheeseburger or pizza every meal." She liked junk foods sometimes! But that stuff also made you sluggish in an emergency, beyond all of the other reasons not to eat it.

His description of how it felt to arrive sounded awful even without the effect it had on his powers. "How did that happen?"

"You might not be, but I'm pretty sure Barry is threatening. Which is ironic considering the two hundred hamburgers I bought him before arriving here." Cisco gave her a flat stare before poking at the salad, it wasn't too bad. He just got attached to junk food. "I'm also kind of missing sushi, but I don't know that New York is the best place to get it. Land locked and all." Fish would probably have to be delivered from elsewhere and not be fresh.

"This guy we were dealing with that wanted to destroy us. Me specifically apparently that night. I showed up to help Barry's family with him and he blind sided me, shoved me back in my own portal and we both ended up in the forest somewhere. Barry said they eventually took care of him, but it still gives me the spooks." Cisco hadn't seen him 'taken care of'. He didn't know what happened to Cicada.

"Barry's the expert on hiding the vegetables, at least. You might not even notice when he replaces all of your grease and protein with fiber and vitamins." She was still enthusiastically eating her own salad. The freshness of it felt like a balm, like her body had been craving it. "I've done sushi and poke here, and I'm still alive. But I'm not eating fugu sashimi, either."

The story combined with the knowledge that the described act had shredded Cisco's hand had Lydia cringing. "I hope he never ends up here with us."

"He's actually an evil genius." Cisco made a face, apparently he wanted to be the evil genius in this relationship. "Fugu is good though. I've had it. I actually want to go to Japan and have it there though.." He'd been wanting to since they were back home. "Never got around to vacation though, something was always trying to tear my city apart" He frowned a little. "Maybe one day." Or the Entity would take pity on them and give him a vacation.

"If he does, I don't care about the second chances thing. I'll trap him between worlds in a portal to nowhere." He stabbed at a bit of lettuce and shoved it in his mouth. "How's college life? Still...collegy?"

"I have a hard time believing that, somehow." Well... almost a hard time. "I wonder if I'd know if the fugu was going to kill you..." Usually there was a lot of build up to her being able to predict a death. Of course, she could always just know where to find his body afterward. "We can test that out if the Entity hears this and decides to take us there."

Spearing the perfect final bite with her fork (some of each ingredient), Lydia popped it in her mouth and chewed thoughtfully. She had really been hungry to wolf it down so quickly. "I can only assume it is, in fact, collegy. It's my only experience with college though, so I wouldn't know if it's not. But classes are good, no one there is trying to kill me, already a marked improvement over high school."

Cisco smirked at that response. "Yeah I guess it's probably more of my burden to bare." Evil genius scientist guy and all. "Why would you know that?" He asked her curiously with a raised eyebrow. Was she some kind of prophet maybe? He'd met weirder things at this point, it wouldn't surprise him if she had a talent too for strange things. "I don't think the other people had to ask outright, so maybe."

He was also nearing the end of his salad, but laughed at that. "That would be an improvement ten fold tbh." He pronounced the letters of tbh, he hated that he was doing that more and more unironically these days. Oh well, whatever. "Uh, yeah high school was a nightmare that can remain buried in decades past for all I care." He was sour about high school. So many bullies.

"Oh, I'm a banshee," she said as casually as if she were mentioning the color of her hair. though she kept her eyes trained on the salad she was stabbing. She didn't quite feel that casual, but they'd probably been living together long enough that he ought to know. And hopefully, the evil part wasn't true. "I'm a harbinger of death — I can sense when people are about to die or are dying. And I can use my voice to hurt people." She glanced up then to see how he was taking the news.

"Parts of it were a nightmare, parts were okay. They're too intertwined for me to hate the whole thing. I mostly just wish we hadn't lost so many people. But college is good. It helps that I'm not worrying too much about my performance." This place didn't really matter for that, school was mostly a way for her to keep doing what she loved while occupying her brain. She'd have gone crazy if all she had was the store she worked at.

"Oh." He responded quickly as if she'd said "it's warm outside isn't it." He didn't really react at first. How did one react to their friend just suddenly saying they were the harbringer of death. "That's a new one.." He admitted with both eyebrows raised now. More curious than anything else really. "As in the Irish myth?" She didn't look like a mythological creature, but from what he remembered they never did. Sirens and the like all took on normal forms.

"Mine was just awful, not in a losing people sort of way though. Mostly in the being abnormally smart gives you bullies. Glad I finished two years early." He shrugged. Finishing high school early was easy when you had no friends or anything to do and just wanted to move on with your life.

"Yea. We thought I was psychic for a while. Kept finding dead bodies..." It had been new for all of them, too. Took their English teacher to figure out what she really was. "Yea, sort of. It runs in my family. Not really a myth though, am I?" She gave him a wry smile.

She nodded along with his assessment, though she didn't have personal experience with that. She hadn't hidden her intelligence before to avoid bullies, but she knew that had been a risk. "I could have graduated junior year, but I didn't want to leave everyone behind. So now I'm graduating college in two years instead."

"That's creepy. I mean for you it had to be creepy." Not that she was creepy, for anyone finding a dead body wasn't a fun thing. "No I guess not. That's...kinda cool really. I mean it must have been hard, but...how many people get to say something like 'Yeah well I'm the harbinger of death'"

"I wanted to get out as soon as possible, I was handed a full ride to an IVY league school so I took it. College was way better. Nobody mocked you for being smart. Nobody cornered you." He shrugged a little. "I'd stay there as long as I could, but that's just me." It was actually fun for him. He got to experience a world of people who actually put intelligence first. It was something he hadn't experienced up until then.

"Not my favorite moments from the last few years," she agreed. Especially before they knew why. Well, and then after they knew and she was treated like some kind of dead body detector... "Me, my grandmother, Meredith," that one stung, "Lenore. Jordan, kind of... But not all of those people are still alive." Yea, that wasn't the spirit in which he'd said the question, but why not answer him if she could? "I'm pretty sure I'm the only one here, though."

"Full ride, hm? Yea, I'd have taken that too. I plan to get my Ph.D after this, so I won't be getting out too quickly. Though I'm not sure I will here. I try not to think about that."

"I didn't have powers until a few years ago." As far as he was aware anyway. They'd all come from a project he'd ironically helped to create. "That's kind of incredible." He grinned, he'd never met anyone like that. Weirdest thing he could say he met was a Egyptian High Priestess. So okay maybe neither of them had normal lives. It made the whole roommate thing easier anyway. He didn't have to try to hide his powers and neither did she.

"Yeah, there was an amazing scientist who took interest in me..became my mentor and convinced both schools to let me graduate and go to college." Wells had betrayed them, but he'd still been Cisco's mentor, it was hard to just hate someone after they literally changed his entire life course. "Why not?"

"Me either. That I knew of." It would have happened later, but then Peter had to ... be Peter. But Cisco probably didn't want to hear about her running around naked in the woods. "Did something happen to you to cause it?" She refrained from attaching some kind of radiation to the questionand was pretty proud of herself for doing so.

"Wow. He must have really seen a lot of potential in you, that's great." She kind of hoped to find someone like that at MIT, but also had the confidence to know she could do it on her own, too. His question drew a sigh out of her. "I don't think there's much in the way of publishing here. The answers I want to find aren't as meaningful if the only people really learning from them live in this seven-floor apartment building. If I'm here for the two years it takes me to get through college, maybe things will feel more permanent, but right now?

"Lab accident." He smirked, "Bet you didn't see that coming." Said ironically. Because probably literally everyone could. Cisco had spent most of his life in a lab. Working in one, completing his schooling in one, labs were where he was most comfortable. "Particle Accelerator to be exact though. It basically split apart and thousands of shards of dark matter effected the entire city."

There was a sort of sad smile there. "He saw something, but it was only for his own gain."Wells was nothing but a user, Cisco knew that. "Anyway, wanna find a movie or something to watch in the meantime?" A swift change of direction, but he wanted to not talk about Wells anymore. When she sighed he raised an eyebrow. "I can poke around people and see if they have any publishing connections, mine are all science related..."
