WHO: Lydia, Scott, and Stiles
WHERE: The High Line & beyond (maybe)
WHEN: Thursday evening
WARNINGS: only a pair of idiots so far ;)
SPOILERS? Unlikely?

It felt nice to get out of midtown. Even though Lydia traveled to Morningside Heights several times a week, that generally didn't quite feel like an escape. And after the week they'd been having so far, an escape was definitely desired. Things seemed to be reaching a safe equilibrium, so she'd jumped at the chance to get out of the apartment and do something with Stiles and Scott.

The golden hour was just starting as she dug into the gelato she'd grabbed from a vendor, and the warm glow combined with their elevated view almost made the island feel like a gilded gift. They didn't have views like this back home, certainly. Or much in the way of art installations. Pausing in front of one, an involuntary sigh escaped, seemingly loosening every muscle in her body at once. Yea, this was definitely something she'd needed.

"There are galleries at the end of this park that have free wine and cheese on Thursday nights." Not that she needed to do more than wander through the park, but the boys might. Then again, free wine in an art gallery might not exactly be their thing either.

Stiles was shaking his head while saying, "oh no, I'm not playing that game. I'm not about to get hurt for guessing wrong." Nope, nope, nope. He was out of that game. He'll just buy however much candy he wanted because he wanted it. "You forgot the curly fries," he pointed out.

He watched Scott, almost horrified before looking at Lydia. "Well, I guess we know he can spell."

Why was he getting that look for? "I guess so if she's trying to choose between them!" He didn't know. He wasn't a woman. He was lucky if he knew how to get half the stuff off of Lydia without getting his hands smacked away because he was doing it wrong. "I can't believe this conversation is happening," he muttered as hestarted heading out of hte park.

Lydia could appreciate that neither of them were offering to just buy the least amount of candy in order to placate her about their perceptions of her weight. But it would have been fun to get mad at them for it. "Curly fries?" Had she missed something?

Fashion and all of the things that came along with it could be wielded in many different ways, and Lydia would be the first to admit she enjoyed it, but Scott did stumble his way into a point. "Because if we spend all of our time worrying about what we're wearing, then we can't take over the world. Obviously." Shooing Scott onward with both hands, she had to almost jog to catch up and keep pace. Tall people with their long legs and not wearing heels...

"I think your hips are too narrow for a belt. And they're more complicated anyway. The thigh ones are more like what you see at weddings, when the groom takes it off the bride and flings it into the audience." A terrible tradition in her opinion.

"I think maybe Stiles' brain tripped a fuse and went into curly-fry-mode," he said looking at his friend in just as much confusion as Lydia. "Maybe it was the guess-your-weight thing that did it? A girl shouldn't joke about those things," Scott told her with a wag of his finger, "see what it did?"

Scott looked up at Stiles and answered, "that makes a scary kind of sense..." and if women didn't have to wear bras and all the other things God only knew what they'd be capable of. "Hail the patriarchy and their invention of female-torture-machines? Wait. No. Pretend I didn't say that. Please?" he couldn't help but add the touch of pleading in his tone.

"Who knew, I have narrow hips? Excellent!" he said with a smile Stiles' way, like he actually had something to be proud of. "Those things? With all the lace? And what the hell is with that anyway?" Scott asked with a shake of his head. "If you ever try that on Lydia, I'm beating on you," he told Stiles sternly. "'here's my new wife, look at her goodies... wanna help undress her?' it's like some ancient bedding ceremony !" he said with disgust. "What? I know things!"

"Or maybe I just want some curly fries?" And he might have been trying to change the subject as well. It seemed to be working.

As Scott started to ramble on Stiles made a digging motion. Scott really needed to just shut up already.

"Why am I getting this lecture? I wouldn't make Lydia do anything that she didn't want to do. Not to mention I find the whole thing dumb as well." He gave Scott a mock look of shock. "You know things? Really? Like what?"

"So... curly fries and candy. Anything else on this grocery trip?" This was possibly going to be the weirdest shopping cart ever, but she wasn't surprised.

Letting Scott dig himself deeper, Lydia just raised her brows and waited to see how deep he could really get on his own. When he seemed done she just kept walking like he'd never said anything.

It actually was like an ancient bedding ceremony, meant to show consummation, but she kept that to herself. She hadn't meant to but the whole thing was veering too close to the awkward (for her) conversation she'd had with Scott over the network and she didn't want to approach it.

"You're so fucking weird," Scott said giving Stiles a shake of his head. "Who randomly just wants curly-fries?" he asked, wondering how Lydia put up with him sometimes. "It's like inside that massive brain there's an itty, bitty goldfish with a five-second memory just swimming around." He despaired sometimes.

As for what else they needed from the store, "I'm sure we'll pick up dinner too. Man can't survive on curly-fries alone," he said with another roll of his eyes.

"I'd like to see you try and make Lydia do something she didn't want to," Scott replied with a chuckle, "though it'd probably end with your evisceration and gradual death, which would be bad for all of us so I'll spare you that." He gave a shrug, "okay, so maybe I know nothing, but at least I know I know nothing, is that better?"

Stiles was about to answer Lydia, but that's when Scott jumped in. "Uh, me. Like you've never just all of a sudden wanted something. I can't help it if my brain doesn't work like the both of yours."

He nodded in agreement. "Does this mean we should figure out what we want for dinner?" Stiles playfully pushed Scott before making his way to the other side of Lydia, kind of using her as a shield.

"I like living and breathing and being in one piece, thank you very much." He really did wish Scott would stop talking about wedding type stuff, though. "Yeah, that's better." He looked over at Lydia. "Are we driving you crazy yet?"

Figuring out what to eat for dinner then figuring out how to cook whatever they'd picked was starting to get exhausting for Lydia, and she wasn't even doing it every day. "I'll eat whatever you decide. Or, doesn't this place have that grab-and-go section? If you two can't agree on something." Scott would obviously be joining them, it wasn't even an uncertainty.

"That's because you're smart," she agreed, reaching up to pat his bicep. "If I haven't been driven crazy the last three years, I don't see why today would be the tipping point."

"I'm not entirely sure your brain works like anyone else I've ever met," Scott told Stiles with a grin, "which is a good thing, by the way. Mostly."

He caught the look on Lydia's face when he mentioned dinner and realised that she thought he'd just invited himself round to eat. Totally not his intention and so he slipped an arm around each of their shoulders, "how about you guys come to mine to eat tonight? It's an excuse to make Mom's special tacos," he said with a grin. "And if Stiles wants curly-fries with them, he's more than welcome."

From everything Lydia had said today, from Cisco through to work and food, it seemed she had a lot of pressure on her shoulders and Scott needed to find a few ways to help her out of that. He shot her a smile that told her he got it and it was noted. Maybe a conversation for later, though.

"You make an excellent point," Scott said grinning broadly as he started collecting ingredients for dinner, "exactly what would it take to reach the tipping point? Food fight in a supermarket, maybe?" he asked as he teasingly tossed a tomato into the cart.

"Good point," Stiles said as he grabbed Lydia's hand before she could move it away.

"You're going to make your mom's tacos? Now this I have to see! Or I could just snack on curly fries later. I'm not sure tacos and curly fries pair well together."

He shook his head. They were not starting a food fight in a grocery store. he did not want to spend a night in jail or whatever for doing something as stupid as that. "There will be no food fighting here. Although, if your tacos suck, I'm tossing them at you."

Squeezing Stiles's hand, Lydia arched a brow at Scott playfully. "And if Cora happens to be home and think dinner smells amazing, that's not such a bad thing, then?"

It was sort of stupid, but standing here with both boys, she felt lighter than she had in a long time. This felt normal. Like what their lives maybe should have been, except that she definitely wouldn't have been enjoying this if things in her life hadn't drastically changed. The rest of the world was going to crash back in at some point, but for now she was happy in this bubble.

"I don't see why you want to push me into crazy."

"Since when have you cared about pairing your food-groups?" Scott asked his friend with a look of puzzlement. Was this a sign Stiles was finally growing up? Would he be recommending wine choices to go with his curly-fries next? "Hey, Cora has one helluva appetite and if she happened to be wanting dinner, I could hardly deny her," he told Lydia with a grin.

"I'm not going to claim that my tacos'll be as good as Mom's tacos, but she taught me well enough that I can feed you guys," he said as he packed the basket with salad to go with them. "Anyway, you like homemade tacos," Scott said looking at Stiles, "surely you'll give me the benefit of the doubt and if I fail you can drive us to Taco Bell."

Yeah, he loved his people and they'd not spent nearly enough time together since they'd arrived in Goodland, mostly because they all had future-plans that required hard work and study. "This, right here, is what I needed today," he told his friends, "even if you're both totally ignorant of the epic food-battle that could occur right now," he grinned. "I don't wanna push your crazy, Lyd," he told her affectionately, "just testing the lines, as usual!"

"I don't want to see you get pushed into any kind of crazy. Just thought I put that out there." Stiles thought about Scott's question for a moment. "Never. I mean I did eat taquitos and Asian noodles together before," he said with a shrug. "Speaking of Cora...how is all of that going?" Hey, he had to ask. Cora got brought up and now Scott gets to answer questions.

"Good to know because I seriously doubt you can make them as well as your mom. Hey, I never said that I don't like homemade tacos. I said if yours suck, I'm going to throw them at you."

Who knew grocery shopping could be fun? "Me too." Nobody was sad or asking for attention. It was a nice change. "You can have a food fight. Lydia and I will go somewhere else where we won't get into trouble." he flashed Scott a smile before grabbing a bag of Halloween candy and tossing it into the cart.

Lydia's stomach flipped at the thought of taquitos and noodles, and she looked at her boyfriend with a mix of wonder and dismay. How he stayed alive was a mystery sometimes. The mention of Cora shifted her focus to Scott fairly quickly, watching him for verbal and nonverbal answers to the question at hand. "Yea, how is that going? Especially with another full moon coming up tomorrow." Maybe if there was a repeat performance, Scott wouldn't lose his mind this time.

She missed Scott's mom, especially her even and soothing temperament in the face of the absolutely batshit scenarios her son presented her with. It was a quality they needed more of around here. But maybe these tacos would be like having a piece of her here. "How about we don't throw food at all? This dress is new."

"Taquitos and noodles? You're a freak of nature," he told Stiles, totally grossed out by the suggestion. "Next you'll be adding Reeces to your taco shells," he said with a shake of his head.

Scott shot Lydia a look, wishing the last ten seconds of conversation could be wound back and done-over, without the mention of Cora. He'd just opened the door and let his friends stroll right into his personal life, which was complicated at best and totally confusing at worst. "Things with Cora are... interesting," he said with a raised eyebrow. "She's not into the whole soppy side of things," but she was definitely into the sex part. "I'm taking her out tomorrow night," he told Lydia was a small smile, "in the hopes of a slightly more romantic setting."

He would never beat his Mom's cooking and thinking about it gave him a pang of homesickness. Scott knew she'd want him to be happy, though, wherever he was. He'd always known he'd move out one day but he'd always assumed he'd be able to talk to her tons. "And talking about Mom is making me even more grateful you guys are here," he said with a slightly sad smile. Scott suspected Lydia and Stiles would be feeling the same about their people.

"Okay, fine, no food fights and no tossing my tacos either," Scott told Stiles, "cause we would hate for Lydia to have to do laundry. She would make us pay," he said with a grin towards his friends.

Stiles saw the look on Lydia's face and heard the disgust in Scott's voice. "Yeah. What? It was there and I was hungry so I ate it. It actually wasn't that bad." But enough of that conversation. He wanted to hear about Cora.

"Interesting? How is it interesting? You gotta give us more than that," Stiles pushed for more information. "Maybe it's a Hale thing. No soppy stuff," he suggested. "Oh? You'll have to tell us how that goes."

He could tell that mentioning Melissa was starting to get to Scott. "I miss my dad," he put out there. Yeah, sure he left Beacon Hills, but at least he could still be in contact with his dad. Not here. They were cut off from everyone they loved and cared about until they popped up. "I am glad that you guys are here, too, though." There was no way he would have stayed sane if he had to keep dealing with all of this alone.

"Don't make them suck then." He glanced over at Lydia and gave her dress a once over. "I'll make sure to aim the horrible taco your way and not anywhere near Lydia. I don't want to die."

"Do you actually have plans or are you hoping the romance just happens?" Lydia was aware of some of Scott's ideas on romance from Allison, Kira, and her own observations. She loved him, but she had a feeling this might not go so well.

Not wanting them to dwell on the sad turn, or admit out loud that she missed other peoples' parents more than her own mother, she flashed them both a small smile. "We're what we have and that's got to be enough for now. Right?" Wishing people here just meant they had to endure the terrible things that happened, too. That didn't feel fair.

"When he retaliates, I will use you as a human shield." Scott had better aim, luckily.

He was about to ask why he had to give them more. It was just the two of them, right? "It works, you know? In the bedroom," Scott said with a shrug, which was pretty much all the details he was getting into. "I guess I'd like it to be more, but it takes two for that," and Stiles might be right about the whole Hale-thing. Still, it didn't mean he was going to stop telling her how she made him feel. "I'm just going to see how it goes," he told Lydia, cause the whole romantic gesture thing seem to make things awkward.

"Alright, group hug!" Scott said as he grabbed the two friends and pulled them tight to him. "So long as we have each other, we can do this," he told them softly before letting them go with a pat on their backs. "I love you guys," and he would value what he had not what was missing. It was the only thing keeping him from going crazy right now.

Scott rolled his eyes, "maybe I'll just make yours suck," he said with a pointed smirk at Stiles. "And when you screw up and get Lydia messy, I can leave it to her to punish you."

"Soooo, she's all about the sex and you want mushy stuff and she's not going for it. I'm sure you'll figure it out." That's what it sounded like to him anyway. "I think in the end, if you really want something with Cora you're going to have to wait it out and not be too pushy." That was the best advice he could give.

Stiles moved in close and put his arms around both of the people that he loved. "Love you too, man." And Scott was right. As long as they had each other, they could deal with anything thrown their way.

"Well, you just killed the mood," he teased with a pinch to Scot's side before moving away, grinning. "Oh, I see how it is. You want me to get punished. I want a new best friend. I wonder if I can buy one here..."

"I think Stiles has a point about not pushing, but I also think it's fair for you to express what you want. If you think you can live with it, it's one thing, but you should be happy too, you know?" They all deserved to be happy.

Lydia hugged them both back tightly, the strong hold betraying her next comment. "I love you both, too, but people are going to stare." They were in the middle of the grocery store.

"Alright, boys, you're both pretty. Let's just make one batch of tacos and we can order pizza when the tacos let us down. What else do we need?"

Trust Stiles to totally reword his opinion and put it into the worst possible sentence! Scott might as well just hang up his romance-shoes and forget it. "I'm not being pushy," he said slightly more churlishly than he'd wanted to sound. Neither of his friends was being unsupportive, but he couldn't help but feel weird talking about this to them. "It just feels like we're doing things the wrong way around is all," he said with a shrug, "but I like her," so he'd see how it went. If it never moved on from where they were now, maybe he'd feel like changing things up.

"Let them stare," Scott said with a grin, "we'll just tell them we're a perfect thruple and if anyone judges us I'll pull the wolf-card out," he said with a wiggle of his eyebrows. "You guys are the best," he told them with one last pat, "you're all I need to feel at home," he said in a soft whisper, "also all I need to feel like I'm gonna get thrown out if Stiles grabbed my ass," he said giving a wave to a burly security guard who was looking their way.

"It's my god-given duty to kill all the buzz ever," Scott agreed and flinched when Stiles pinched him and slapped his hand before he could get totally done. "Yeah, we're pretty," he said with an eyebrow raised, "but who's got the bigger... taco?" he teased. "Sounds like a plan. C'mon home-team, let's get this food past the checkout before they toss us out."

"How exactly does it feel like you're doing things the wrong way around? I didn't know there was a right way to do any of that."

Stiles didn't care too much about the staring, but they really should stop hogging up most of the aisle. "Of course we are," he said with a huge grin. "Can't toss us out just because I grab your ass...which I'm not doing." He pulled away and grabbed the cart.

"Okay, enough taco talk. Let's finish getting stuff and go. I'm hungry," he told them as he started to walk off, pulling the cart along with him.

"We don't really have the time and space for doing things in whatever order you're thinking, Scott. If it works for you guys, it works, no matter the order," she shrugged.

"I'm not comparing soft tacos with burritos." Rolling her eyes, she left it in the air as to which metaphor went where as she followed behind the cart. Digging into her purse, she pulled out a few bills and held them out for Scott to take, more than enough to cover her and Stiles' portion of what was in the cart.

"Get to know each other, become friends, smile a little before dating one another," Scott ticked off the varying stages of relationships to his utterly clueless, and yet entirely coupled, best friend. "Moon over your chick for all of your schooling..." he threw in, just for Stiles, "before getting it on and moving in together. Stages."

He could see if from Lydia's perspective, particularly as she'd been going through the whole fear-of-loosing-people thing. "This is home now, Lyd," he said with a small shrug, "and just because I'm an alpha doesn't mean I have to behave like one. I don't want Cora in my bed cause I'm a werewolf, I want her there cause it's me," Scott said with a frown.

"What is this, double-team time?" he asked with a shake of his head at the comments from his friends. "Can't believe he wouldn't even grab my ass..." he said under his breath as he followed along behind. Scott pushed the cash back towards her purse, "when Stiles eats me out of house and home you can contribute and not before," he told her with a smile, "though it's appreciated."

He quickly bagged up the shopping and headed towards the doors. "C'mon kiddies, let's get you home and fed."

"Lydia does have a point there." It wasn't like they knew how long they were going to stick around this place. It was all up in the air. "Hey, let's not forget that my relationship with malia didn't exactly start normal." So, honestly, he wondered what exactly normal was because none of them seemed to have started anything in any kind of normal fashion.

"She hasn't told you to fuck off yet, soooo wouldn't that mean she's there because she wants to be and because it's you?"

Stiles looked at Lydia and then back at Scott before nodded. "Yep! And I heard that. If you really want me to grab your ass, all you have to do is ask."

Since Scott seemed to have taken control of the groceries again, Stiles grabbed Lydia's hand and started walking not far behind Scott.
