WHO: Lydia, Scott, and Stiles
WHERE: The High Line & beyond (maybe)
WHEN: Thursday evening
WARNINGS: only a pair of idiots so far ;)
SPOILERS? Unlikely?

It felt nice to get out of midtown. Even though Lydia traveled to Morningside Heights several times a week, that generally didn't quite feel like an escape. And after the week they'd been having so far, an escape was definitely desired. Things seemed to be reaching a safe equilibrium, so she'd jumped at the chance to get out of the apartment and do something with Stiles and Scott.

The golden hour was just starting as she dug into the gelato she'd grabbed from a vendor, and the warm glow combined with their elevated view almost made the island feel like a gilded gift. They didn't have views like this back home, certainly. Or much in the way of art installations. Pausing in front of one, an involuntary sigh escaped, seemingly loosening every muscle in her body at once. Yea, this was definitely something she'd needed.

"There are galleries at the end of this park that have free wine and cheese on Thursday nights." Not that she needed to do more than wander through the park, but the boys might. Then again, free wine in an art gallery might not exactly be their thing either.

"If we're calling Stiles a kink, then he is seriously weird." With a few bites left of her gelato, she handed it off to Stiles to finish and wiped at her fingers with a napkin. It was a good thing they'd vetoed wine and cheese, she would have been way too full.

"What Stiles said. There's that ridiculously overpriced candy place over on 60th." It was expensive but there was a lot of variety. And the rent here was comparatively cheap when Goodland didn't have income tax as far as she could tell. "There were technically four musketeers anyway." Plus, she didn't harbor any fantasies about running around with a sword and a big floppy hat on. "And I meant that we're a bit too old to go trick or treating so what are we planning to do."

Reaching around behind Scott, Lydia rested her hand on Stiles' back. He was really trying. It wasn't his fault this place was predictably unpredictable.

He leaned around to look at Stiles and winced and looked back at Lydia, "he's definitely a kink. Totally one I'm not into," Scott flashed his friend a bright smile. "You're really weird," he told Lydia with a face of total innocence, knowing the chances of him avoiding violence from one or other of the couple at this point was slim. "Well if you wanted to see me squirm, you should have invited me," he said pulling them both tight to him and wiggling. "I have moves!"

"I'm open to September-candy," Scott replied almost too eagerly, "and I'd even pay too much for it if it was good." So, that was the plan. Candy in September, it was something to do, for sure and it seemed their inner five-year-olds were happy to accommodate their wishes. "So we drag Cora in to be d'Artagnan?" Scott suggested with a small shrug, "and I'm really not selling you guys on the Musketeers, huh? Okay, what are we dressing up as and please skip out the cheesy 'sexy girls' outfits cause they're terrible."

Scott wasn't going to mention the reassuring hand, chances were Stiles needed it. He could imagine his friend's brain was in overdrive trying to work out everything that had happened to them all since they'd arrived here. "If there's an answer to any of this, I have faith you'll find it, but don't go breaking your brain on an unsolvable puzzle, dude," he told him softly. "Some stuff is random. Like my undying affection for you," he said with a bright smile.

"Why am I getting called names now?" He fake pouted. "You know you're into me," he teased as he leaned into wards Scott and acted like he might kiss him. After that, he took the gelato from Lydia and finished it off.

"Does this mean you're buying the candy?" he asked, smiling. "How expensive are we talking about anyway?" he asked Lydia since she's the one who brought up the shop. "how about we ditch the musketeer idea," he suggested. "Hmm, I don't know. We could have our own little Halloween party? Or find some adult Halloween thing going on in the city. I'm sure there will be something to do in costumes."

Stiles looked over at Lydia and gave her a tiny smile. She knew how he really felt about this stuff. It was always nice to have her reassurance there. Even when it was just a simple touch. "I'm not going to break my brain. But I'm going to figure this place out." Oh yes, he was going to do just that. Just not right now. "Pfft, your affection for me isn't random. You fell in love with me the moment we met in the sandbox."

"We believe in equal opportunity mocking," Lydia replied primly, barely hiding her grin. Scott's comment on her weirdness could slide... for now. "Are we sure those moves translate to human Scott?" She may have dated a lizard and a werewolf but she was not into beastiality.

She tried to remember exactly, having only stopped in once. The bright colors and slick branding had been too irresistible not to go window shopping. "I think the bulk candy was ten dollars a pound? They had some nostalgic candy, too, but I didn't check the prices. Probably just as ridiculous." She could be talked into a Halloween party much more easily, whether they were hosting or not. "Scott, I'm surprised you don't want to dress up like a sexy girl."

Her expression softening, she gave Stiles a small nod of encouragement. She had his back, and she believed in him. "Should I give you two some time alone?"

"Yes we do," Scott chimed in with a smug nod, mostly because Stiles was the one on the receiving end of the mocking for a change. "Ooof," he feigned a dagger to his heart as he collapsed to the ground and pretended to be dead. "Kiss of life, Stiles?" he said cranking open an eye and wiggled an eyebrow his way. "Seeing as you bailed on the other one?" Fine, he was playing to the wrong crowd here, clearly. He pulled himself to his feet and brushed his jeans down.

"At ten bucks a pound, if we're getting candy from there you guys are totally chipping in!" Scott told them, astonished that anywhere would have the balls to charge that much. "Do they think their selling class A drugs or something?" he said shaking his head, "how about we go to the store and buy in bulk instead? More bang for your buck and more sugar for your lover?" he said as the walked along once more. "Lydia, if you want me dressed as a sexy nurse, I'm totally game, but I'm not waxing so on your head be it," he told her with a nod. Yep, he'd definitely do it too.

Scott grinned as Stiles mentioned the sandbox, "and you've been breaking my toys ever since," he replied with a chuckle. "It's alright, I can share him. Or was that a touch of the green-eyed monster I spied there?" Scott slid Lydia a smirk, "I mean, I know the idea of me in tights gets you hot - I get it. Stiles shouldn't get all this good stuff, he should share," he said with a teasing nod.

"Okay, now we're taking this in a whole different direction. Time for a detour!" Stiles rolled his eyes once more at Scott's overly dramatic death. "Quick, let's run," he joked as he quickly moved closer to Lydia and acted like he was going to pull her away. "No kisses for you, dead boy."

Stiles let his mouth drop open at the thought of paying that much for candy. "I'm not paying thirty bucks for three pounds of candy. I'm with Scott, store candy is better." Not to mention that it meant he could buy a ton of Halloween Reese's. "Might as well dress up like a sexy cheerleader instead."

Stiles looked at Lydia and shook his head. "Nope, definitely not. I think I've spent enough time alone with this weirdo." He flashed Scott a smile. "Wait, what? Why are we talking about tights now? Also, I'm not sharing."

"I don't think the idea is to buy your bodyweight in sugar there." She rolled her eyes a little. Clearly they were going for quantity if a party was involved, but she was a little worried that the many many pounds of candy was really just going to be split between the two of them. The entirety of Ostrich's Villa might collapse under the sugar high-fueled antics that would ensue.

"Yea, why are we talking about tights? All they really do is cut you off in the wrong places. We need to introduce you to garters. Or leggings."

Scott blew Stiles a kiss all the same, even if he was being denied. Couldn't stop him laughing at his antics, though!

"See, I have good ideas sometimes," he said with a nod to Stiles' sentiment about the candy, though three pounds seemed like a lot, even to him. From the way Lydia was talking it was looking like he and Stiles would be eating most of her share. Scott was game, though. "Store candy it is. If we can't buy our weight in candy we should at least be allowed Lydia's weight, right?" He thought about it for a moment, "I'd make a cool cheerleader too," Scott agreed happily playing along. "I'll even shake my pom-poms for you if you're a good boy," he said with a faux leer.

"We're talking about tights cause Lydia wants to see me in a horny Halloween costume," he answered. "Not that I blame her," Scott added with a grin. "I'm totally happy to be introduced to garters. Do we start right now?" he asked, "and I think this is about as much sharing as I'm likely to get from Stiles right now..." he chuckled and gave his friend a pat on the back.

"It's not?" Stiles asked eyebrow raised. "And here I thought that was the whole point of buying so much candy."

He looked between them. "Does this mean we're going to get the candy now?" He was kind of done with the park. "Ooh, pom-pom shaking too. Such a tease."

He shrugged. "It looks like you're introducing Scott to garters. Sooo, are we doing that first or buying candy?"

"You're the only one here saying you don't have any good ideas." Which wasn't to say all of his ideas were good, but she knew he wasn't the clueless dolt he pretended he was. "How about you buy the amount you think matches and we'll see if you survive the night?"

With a long-suffering sigh, she pointed toward the nearest park exit. "Let's go to the grocery. The store with garters is further away and I have to decide if you're a belt or a thigh person."

"See, Stiles gets it. Quantity over quality in all things," he said with a nod and then reconsidered his statement, "except sex and pizza. Okay, maybe it's just a candy thing," Scott further amended. "I think we're going to get candy and see if I live out the rest of the night," he answered raising a hand in Lydia's direction, totally knowing that he'd loose that arrangement however he played it. "I was hoping Stiles would do the guessing?" Scott said with a grin, "seeing as he's... I'm not getting out of that so easy, huh?" Nope, didn't think so!

Scott couldn't help himself and adopted a cheer-stance. "C-A-N-D-Y, what does it spell? CANDY!" he yelled as he danced off towards the park exit, shaking pretend pom-poms in his wake.

Lydia's comment totally pulled him up short as he turned to look at her. "There's different kinds?!" he shot Stiles a look, "you knew this?" Now he was intrigued and was almost distracted from the candy-getting. "Why are girl-clothes so complicated? I mean, I always thought I was an ass-guy, but I could be persuaded to be a thigh-guy too?"

Stiles was shaking his head while saying, "oh no, I'm not playing that game. I'm not about to get hurt for guessing wrong." Nope, nope, nope. He was out of that game. He'll just buy however much candy he wanted because he wanted it. "You forgot the curly fries," he pointed out.

He watched Scott, almost horrified before looking at Lydia. "Well, I guess we know he can spell."

Why was he getting that look for? "I guess so if she's trying to choose between them!" He didn't know. He wasn't a woman. He was lucky if he knew how to get half the stuff off of Lydia without getting his hands smacked away because he was doing it wrong. "I can't believe this conversation is happening," he muttered as hestarted heading out of hte park.

Lydia could appreciate that neither of them were offering to just buy the least amount of candy in order to placate her about their perceptions of her weight. But it would have been fun to get mad at them for it. "Curly fries?" Had she missed something?

Fashion and all of the things that came along with it could be wielded in many different ways, and Lydia would be the first to admit she enjoyed it, but Scott did stumble his way into a point. "Because if we spend all of our time worrying about what we're wearing, then we can't take over the world. Obviously." Shooing Scott onward with both hands, she had to almost jog to catch up and keep pace. Tall people with their long legs and not wearing heels...

"I think your hips are too narrow for a belt. And they're more complicated anyway. The thigh ones are more like what you see at weddings, when the groom takes it off the bride and flings it into the audience." A terrible tradition in her opinion.

"I think maybe Stiles' brain tripped a fuse and went into curly-fry-mode," he said looking at his friend in just as much confusion as Lydia. "Maybe it was the guess-your-weight thing that did it? A girl shouldn't joke about those things," Scott told her with a wag of his finger, "see what it did?"

Scott looked up at Stiles and answered, "that makes a scary kind of sense..." and if women didn't have to wear bras and all the other things God only knew what they'd be capable of. "Hail the patriarchy and their invention of female-torture-machines? Wait. No. Pretend I didn't say that. Please?" he couldn't help but add the touch of pleading in his tone.

"Who knew, I have narrow hips? Excellent!" he said with a smile Stiles' way, like he actually had something to be proud of. "Those things? With all the lace? And what the hell is with that anyway?" Scott asked with a shake of his head. "If you ever try that on Lydia, I'm beating on you," he told Stiles sternly. "'here's my new wife, look at her goodies... wanna help undress her?' it's like some ancient bedding ceremony !" he said with disgust. "What? I know things!"

"Or maybe I just want some curly fries?" And he might have been trying to change the subject as well. It seemed to be working.

As Scott started to ramble on Stiles made a digging motion. Scott really needed to just shut up already.

"Why am I getting this lecture? I wouldn't make Lydia do anything that she didn't want to do. Not to mention I find the whole thing dumb as well." He gave Scott a mock look of shock. "You know things? Really? Like what?"

"So... curly fries and candy. Anything else on this grocery trip?" This was possibly going to be the weirdest shopping cart ever, but she wasn't surprised.

Letting Scott dig himself deeper, Lydia just raised her brows and waited to see how deep he could really get on his own. When he seemed done she just kept walking like he'd never said anything.

It actually was like an ancient bedding ceremony, meant to show consummation, but she kept that to herself. She hadn't meant to but the whole thing was veering too close to the awkward (for her) conversation she'd had with Scott over the network and she didn't want to approach it.

"You're so fucking weird," Scott said giving Stiles a shake of his head. "Who randomly just wants curly-fries?" he asked, wondering how Lydia put up with him sometimes. "It's like inside that massive brain there's an itty, bitty goldfish with a five-second memory just swimming around." He despaired sometimes.

As for what else they needed from the store, "I'm sure we'll pick up dinner too. Man can't survive on curly-fries alone," he said with another roll of his eyes.

"I'd like to see you try and make Lydia do something she didn't want to," Scott replied with a chuckle, "though it'd probably end with your evisceration and gradual death, which would be bad for all of us so I'll spare you that." He gave a shrug, "okay, so maybe I know nothing, but at least I know I know nothing, is that better?"

Stiles was about to answer Lydia, but that's when Scott jumped in. "Uh, me. Like you've never just all of a sudden wanted something. I can't help it if my brain doesn't work like the both of yours."

He nodded in agreement. "Does this mean we should figure out what we want for dinner?" Stiles playfully pushed Scott before making his way to the other side of Lydia, kind of using her as a shield.

"I like living and breathing and being in one piece, thank you very much." He really did wish Scott would stop talking about wedding type stuff, though. "Yeah, that's better." He looked over at Lydia. "Are we driving you crazy yet?"

Figuring out what to eat for dinner then figuring out how to cook whatever they'd picked was starting to get exhausting for Lydia, and she wasn't even doing it every day. "I'll eat whatever you decide. Or, doesn't this place have that grab-and-go section? If you two can't agree on something." Scott would obviously be joining them, it wasn't even an uncertainty.

"That's because you're smart," she agreed, reaching up to pat his bicep. "If I haven't been driven crazy the last three years, I don't see why today would be the tipping point."

"I'm not entirely sure your brain works like anyone else I've ever met," Scott told Stiles with a grin, "which is a good thing, by the way. Mostly."

He caught the look on Lydia's face when he mentioned dinner and realised that she thought he'd just invited himself round to eat. Totally not his intention and so he slipped an arm around each of their shoulders, "how about you guys come to mine to eat tonight? It's an excuse to make Mom's special tacos," he said with a grin. "And if Stiles wants curly-fries with them, he's more than welcome."

From everything Lydia had said today, from Cisco through to work and food, it seemed she had a lot of pressure on her shoulders and Scott needed to find a few ways to help her out of that. He shot her a smile that told her he got it and it was noted. Maybe a conversation for later, though.

"You make an excellent point," Scott said grinning broadly as he started collecting ingredients for dinner, "exactly what would it take to reach the tipping point? Food fight in a supermarket, maybe?" he asked as he teasingly tossed a tomato into the cart.

"Good point," Stiles said as he grabbed Lydia's hand before she could move it away.

"You're going to make your mom's tacos? Now this I have to see! Or I could just snack on curly fries later. I'm not sure tacos and curly fries pair well together."

He shook his head. They were not starting a food fight in a grocery store. he did not want to spend a night in jail or whatever for doing something as stupid as that. "There will be no food fighting here. Although, if your tacos suck, I'm tossing them at you."

Squeezing Stiles's hand, Lydia arched a brow at Scott playfully. "And if Cora happens to be home and think dinner smells amazing, that's not such a bad thing, then?"

It was sort of stupid, but standing here with both boys, she felt lighter than she had in a long time. This felt normal. Like what their lives maybe should have been, except that she definitely wouldn't have been enjoying this if things in her life hadn't drastically changed. The rest of the world was going to crash back in at some point, but for now she was happy in this bubble.

"I don't see why you want to push me into crazy."

"Since when have you cared about pairing your food-groups?" Scott asked his friend with a look of puzzlement. Was this a sign Stiles was finally growing up? Would he be recommending wine choices to go with his curly-fries next? "Hey, Cora has one helluva appetite and if she happened to be wanting dinner, I could hardly deny her," he told Lydia with a grin.

"I'm not going to claim that my tacos'll be as good as Mom's tacos, but she taught me well enough that I can feed you guys," he said as he packed the basket with salad to go with them. "Anyway, you like homemade tacos," Scott said looking at Stiles, "surely you'll give me the benefit of the doubt and if I fail you can drive us to Taco Bell."

Yeah, he loved his people and they'd not spent nearly enough time together since they'd arrived in Goodland, mostly because they all had future-plans that required hard work and study. "This, right here, is what I needed today," he told his friends, "even if you're both totally ignorant of the epic food-battle that could occur right now," he grinned. "I don't wanna push your crazy, Lyd," he told her affectionately, "just testing the lines, as usual!"

"I don't want to see you get pushed into any kind of crazy. Just thought I put that out there." Stiles thought about Scott's question for a moment. "Never. I mean I did eat taquitos and Asian noodles together before," he said with a shrug. "Speaking of Cora...how is all of that going?" Hey, he had to ask. Cora got brought up and now Scott gets to answer questions.

"Good to know because I seriously doubt you can make them as well as your mom. Hey, I never said that I don't like homemade tacos. I said if yours suck, I'm going to throw them at you."

Who knew grocery shopping could be fun? "Me too." Nobody was sad or asking for attention. It was a nice change. "You can have a food fight. Lydia and I will go somewhere else where we won't get into trouble." he flashed Scott a smile before grabbing a bag of Halloween candy and tossing it into the cart.

Lydia's stomach flipped at the thought of taquitos and noodles, and she looked at her boyfriend with a mix of wonder and dismay. How he stayed alive was a mystery sometimes. The mention of Cora shifted her focus to Scott fairly quickly, watching him for verbal and nonverbal answers to the question at hand. "Yea, how is that going? Especially with another full moon coming up tomorrow." Maybe if there was a repeat performance, Scott wouldn't lose his mind this time.

She missed Scott's mom, especially her even and soothing temperament in the face of the absolutely batshit scenarios her son presented her with. It was a quality they needed more of around here. But maybe these tacos would be like having a piece of her here. "How about we don't throw food at all? This dress is new."
