Jughead was thrilled to see Betty arrive in Goodland. He was not so thrilled about her attitude toward her mother. Or the fact his dad jumped all over him about it. Betty and Alice had their issues. Jughead was aware of a good deal of stress and strain between them. It wasn't a new thing, by any means. Jughead understood his dad was just looking out for Alice, but Jughead figured Alice and Betty could and should work things out themselves. He really didn't want to get involved, but he would say something to Betty to appease his dad.
He took her to get burgers and milkshakes, giving them time to chill together. They stayed for a while after they'd eaten just talking. Jughead filled Betty in on his time in Goodland without her. He told her that Alice was pregnant, that FP had asked Jughead how he felt about FP and Alice getting married. He glossed over the subject of Betty's relationship with Alice. He didn't feel comfortable telling Betty she needed to cool it, Alice was her mother after all, and the two of them needed to work through their differences on their own terms.
Jughead was kind of dreading taking Betty to the apartment, but after the left the restaurant, that was where they headed. He had a sack of take out, something of a peace offering for his dad and Alice. "You ready for this?" he asked her as they headed up to the fourth floor. He was grateful they didn't have any other room mates, that was a small mercy, he supposed.
