Ray + Nebula
WHO: Ray Palmer & Nebula
WHAT: A nerd meeting his new friend colleague irl.
WHERE: Stark Industries
WHEN: Let's say Wednesday 4th (slightly backdated because I failed to post this sooner)
SPOILERS: None?
WARNINGS: Ray is a dork.

Things had been running pretty smoothly for Ray thus far in his new role at Stark Industries. Nanotechnology was his specialty and he'd been given pretty much free reign to test theories and build whatever tech may come from those. He'd started to recreate the nanites that he'd perfected on his own world, which had already proved their mettle by saving his life and proved useful to team Flash when they'd needed to counteract certain meta abilities in their adversaries. (Too bad the Legends hadn't had any to hand when they'd fought Eobard.) In fact Ray was so engrossed with his current work, that he had failed to eat, or even stop for a drink break. So when a bossy chime emitted from his Palmer tech watch, telling him to check his hydration level, he figured he should probably down tools for a moment and grab some water and whatever food came to hand first.

He'd just returned from his refueling mission, and was about pick up where he'd left off when he heard someone enter the lab. Looking across he offered his usual friendly smile and for a split second he thought he was going to stumble over his words, but somehow managed to get out a, "hello, can I help you?"

All the while eternally grateful that his inner monologue remained just that, because the woman standing before him was absolutely incredible.

Working out what she could do for employment had actually been far easier, given that Tony was happy to slot her into things was helpful. She'd been through the pack he'd sent her and filled out the forms the best she could -it wasn't like she had the normal background humans did.

Her head tilted to the side, taking in the human in front of her. "I am Nebula. I will be working here." She guess this was Ray, her work mate in the lab. "You are Ray?"

"Nebula! Hi. Yes, I'm Ray." He greeted her properly with another smile, this one a fraction brighter than the last. Having spoken to her via the network, it was great to be able to put a face to the name finally. He was also happy to see that she had followed up on his and Tony's suggestion and come to work at Stark Industries.

"Pleased to meet you," he offered her a handshake, "I'm really glad you decided to apply to work here. Hopefully you'll enjoy it."

Everyone here seemed so personable and friendly, outgoing and just joyful. Nebula didn't really understand it, but she was working on not being so severe all the time, on being at least a little open to it. "It is nice to meet you too." She hesitated for a moment, before taking Ray's hand with hers, the cybernetic hand closing carefully around his human hand to give it a shake.

"There is not much suited to my skills, this may provide some kind of challenge." And in a way she was glad she wouldn't exactly be working alone. She was always alone, around here she was starting to get used to being around people. "What is it you are currently working on?"

Smiling brightly again as Nebula returned his greeting, Ray gave a firm shake. He had to keep himself from marvelling over her incredibly advanced hand as they shook, he knew it would be off-putting for him to take a closer look, no matter how much he wanted to.

"Hopefully, I always find the most challenging work the most rewarding." Certainly the feeling of accomplishment was one he enjoyed. "I'm building nanites, similar to ones I designed back home." He gestured to the workstation he was using. "Nanotechnology is my specialty."

Challenging work was sometimes frustrating though, and Nebula didn't handle frustration well. But this was better than her usual options, it didn't seem like people needed much killed around here. "I find it passable." Her father set her challenges, when she failed them, like he always expected her to do, she was punished.

"I am comprised on nanotechnology." Nebula's synaptic drive gave a whirl and hum, her arm hissing as she rotated part of it. "Perhaps I can be of some assistance?" Her cybernetic components weren't basic, Thanos tinkered with her to make her better, stronger and faster, her body was taken apart and reconstructed, but the components that made up her form now were created with advanced sciences available to the Mad Titan.

It would likely be more interesting to Nebula anyway.

"So long as it doesn't make you unhappy, working on something you don't enjoy is a chore." He knew they likely had vastly different backgrounds, but hopefully woking in the lab together, they'd find something common to both their interests and skillsets.

"Really? That's brilliant. So you'll recognise what I'm working on." His eyes tracked the movement in her arm for a second before he remembered himself and shifted his gaze back to hers. "I'd like that, two brains working on a task are better than one." He had no doubt that the tech Nebula was familiar with would be different to his own, but physics and mechanics shouldn't change too much, no matter the galaxy of origin.

"I had some nanites left in my bloodstream from... a medical emergency," Ray brought up the schematics of said nanite on his tablet, sending it to the holo projector built into the workbench. "These were the prototypes, so not the most advanced. I was hoping to improve and build on this base so the tech can be used here in multiple fields."
