Tony & Rey
WHO: Tony Stark & Rey
WHAT: Showing her Stark Industries
WHERE: Around SI.
WHEN: Monday, August 19
WARNING: No
Spoilers: Don’t think so.

Tony, perhaps contrary to popular opinion, always appreciated new talent at his company. He already owned the thing so why bother feeling competitive toward young and innovative workers? Much like he mentored a young Spider-Man, he enjoyed helping new employees grow. Rey, of course, was not an employee --- at least not yet. He knew she was radically out of time in Goodland, but he could tell she was skilled and creative from her post regarding her speedster. He believed she just needed to gain experience shadowing similarly skilled employees. Well, experience, and someone to believe in her. He thought Stark Industries would be the best place for that, which was why he invited her to tour the facilities Monday morning. “Hello,” he greeted her after staff ushered Rey into his office. “Glad you could make it.” He stood and smiled warmly. “Would you like something to drink?”

There were times Rey could push forward a sense of confidence. There were things she knew she could do, she’d constructed her Speeder from scratch, she was a good pilot. But they felt in context, most of what Rey knew how to do was driven by survival and necessity - and really when you came from a whole lot of nothing like Jakku, surely it was relative, there wasn’t much to compare one’s level of skill with, was there?

Rey knew wanted to work at Stark Industries. She’d heard from Finn a little about what it was like and how impressive it all was. He’d been right, that much was clear as soon as she set foot inside the building. She couldn’t help wondering if she really could find a place here.

Ushered into the office, Rey gave an uncertain sort of smile in response, unable to help her curiosity slight awe, gaze roaming about his room. The girl looked to Tony as she spoke, there was a warmth about him, but she also got the immediate sensation of not wanting to disappoint him, either - for offering his time. “Thank you for seeing me.” following after with a nod as he offered her something to drink her mouth feeling particularly dry with nerves. “Yes. -Please."

Tony immediately crossed to his fridge when Rey agreed to something to drink. Stark Industries was impressive; Tony liked the clean and modern look with pops of color accentuating just the right objects. What could he say? Flair made the man and it certainly made his company. He dealt in technology so everything needed to look sharp, appealing, and expensive. Still, he didn’t want anyone to feel intimidated in his office. Well, he didn’t want anyone like Rey feeling intimidated anyway. Some business required intimidation, after all.

He could tell she was nervous so he didn’t press her for a drink choice. Instead, he stuck with a simple bottled water. “Go on,” he said. “Sit.” He placed the bottle on his desk sans coaster.

Completely out of her depth, Rey didn't seem meek, just overly aware. Her nerves manifested as a sort of energy, a little guarded and tense as if she was determined to be prepared, even if she wasn't certain what for, or how to do that.

Rey took the seat offered, and took a sip from the bottle, the actions grounding her a little. "I've- never been anywhere quite like this." Having found her voice it seemed, a smile surfacing. Well, the First Order had some incredible technology; all of it grand, highly advanced and sleek; but their territory was never a place she wanted to be. "I know of a few people who have found work at your company. My friend Finn's in maintenance."

He didn't return to his seat behind the desk; instead, he sat in the chair next to her. He nodded when she mentioned never being anywhere like Stark Industries. "Ah, Finn, yes," he replied. "Good guy. Hard worker." He didn't know all his employees intimately, but he did know them by names and positions. "Hope he doesn't have anything too negative to say about me." His eyes betrayed that he was teasing. "You two from the same world?"

Tony certainly had a way of putting Rey at ease as the minutes passed - which wasn’t something everyone could manage so quickly in her company. However as guarded as she might generally be, the genuine sort of air, about everything Tony said, was almost impossible not to be won over by, and it was never too difficult to tell when his words were good natured, teasing.

“Never.” Rey smiled, perfectly genuine in return. “It’s part of the reason I’d like to work for your organisation- he’s happy here.” Finn’s former employment was also an autocratic military. Stark Industries was a vast improvement.

She nodded quickly. “We are. Well. The same galaxy.” They’d been separated last she remembered before arriving here. “He’s-” Very briefly, she paused at the thought, that she'd never really defined what Finn was to her, but he mattered a great deal, she cared about him, and she believed he felt the same. A seriousness came over her, but with warmth. “He’s my best friend.” Close enough, anyway. He’d saved her life.

“Is- it just people who’ve arrived here from different worlds who work for you- Mr Stark?” She asked, as the thought came to her. Wedge had worked there whilst he was in this world, she remembered that too.

"We need those," Tony replied. "Best friends, that is." He denied it once, but Rhodey saved his life both literally and figuratively in their world. "Different worlds? I mean there are a few from my reality, but the rest are from all different places. No one who was here before we arrived." He tilted his head, his own expression growing more serious. "I would never take someone on I didn't feel would contribute to the team. Vice versa too. We are all constantly growing and expanding our skills." He leaned in slightly as if telling a secret. "Besides, the donuts here are amazing."

Rey nodded, a solemn turn to her expression. “I had no idea how much.” As if she’d picked up something from his tone. She’d been so certain she’d never rely on anyone else but herself. And after Starkiller base? Well all she’d wanted was to get back to Finn, and made certain he was okay.

“Donuts?” Rey’s brows arched a little, she looked curious. “I haven’t tried them yet.” But she seemed highly intrigued, quick to follow up. “But- there’s so much food here I’ve never seen before.” Rey was slowly learning about all the culinary delights of this world, she’d never even dreamt of so many kinds of foods, and fruits; all of them unlike anything she’d ever experienced on Jakku and she loved it.

But her thoughts circled back, straightening a little as a touch more seriousness overtook her. “You think there’s something I can do for your team- I could contribute?” And whilst Tony had clearly made every effort to make the mood rather more casual, she couldn’t help tacking on. “-Mr Stark.” Her attempt at researching how exactly to make the impression you wanted, had included something along those lines.

Tony feigned indignation. "Still haven't tried a donut? We'll remedy that on the tour," he promised. Noting the solemnness in her stance, he too grew more serious. "Yes, Rey. That...what did you call it? Speedster? Not everyone could teach themselves to do that. It is a gift. Engineering here. Technology." His hands flourished as he grew excited. He loved talking about all that stuff. "Doesn't matter what you call it. Building things. Constructing. It all comes down to an innate ability. We can teach you the rest. And we will, I promise that, if you join our team."

“Speeder.” She corrected, but with a small sort of smile about her, because Tony’s enthusiasm was so abundantly clear, and he was pretty infectious in that way - enough to make Rey feel as if she really could find a place here, it wasn’t just a case of it being something she desperately wanted.

“I’d like that. I want to learn.” Rey nodded, still grinning widely, and hoping that was a formal enough acceptance to be taken on board. Tony certainly had a way of painting a picture so clearly, she very much wanted to be a part of it. “And- the opportunity to try donuts too.”

"Speeder," he corrected. "Okay, then!" He clapped his hands together once. "Then let's get you a tour and an agreement drafted, Rey." He gestured toward his door. "I will walk you around," he promised. "Introduce you to the people I like. You can find the ones I don't like later." He rolled his eyes. "Okay, fine, I will introduce you to everyone." A big smile broke across his face.
