Tony & Wanda
WHO: Tony Stark & Wanda Maximoff
WHAT: Reunion
WHERE: Central Park
WHEN: Sunday morning after donut time with family & Nebula.
WARNINGS: His mouth, maybe.
SPOILERS: I suspect through Endgame

Tony felt guilty for telling Steve he wouldn't join the team for dinner. It had nothing to do with Wanda, but his own insecurity. Most of the Avengers were from a future he didn't live in; sure, he made peace with Steve, but he was from a time when his feelings were still raw over the Accords and Barnes. Yes, he personally asked Bucky to take part in Peter's birthday, but that wasn't an intimate setting. He could have Bucky there for Peter, but avoid him outside polite pleasantries. He only admitted it to Pepper, but he felt like most of the Avengers only decided he wasn't a self-centered playboy after they defeated Thanos. He never trusted easily so his rift with Steve had cut him deeply and, while he understood the motives now, he could never forget who seemingly "chose" Captain America over him. Those feelings weren't helped when Clint touched a sore spot regarding Peter upon his arrival. He could forgive Clint, someone he knew was grieving, but he couldn't forget none of the Avengers checked in on him after that. Perhaps Bruce or Rhodey would bridge the gap in Goodland, but Tony didn't think he could sit down to a small dinner with a team he didn't feel he belonged to. What had he once said? He was just the guy who bought everything? Maybe that was all he still was? Thor's arrival helped, but Tony just wasn't ready for a "family" reunion. It was different one on one; he was scared of the memories that "bringing the team together" would invoke. Sure, it was cowardly, but he finally had a chance at a family and "normal" life in Goodland. He didn't want to confront the demons; it was hard enough doing it one on one.

Still, he cared about Wanda. He really thought he was doing the best thing for her and everyone else when he kept her in the compound. He believed the Accords would help save lives. He saw, now, how wrong he had been, but his motives were never malicious. She was young and lost her family so he wanted to protect her as much as he wanted to protect others from her. He had no idea how she'd feel about him now. He made peace with Wanda when she was in Goodland before, but he was learning different versions of people popped in and out of the city. What if she hated him? He guessed she didn't from their talks on the web board, but he still worried.

He thought Central Park was a good meeting place where they could walk around in the fresh air. He, for one, knew he needed to walk off his nervous energy.

He propped himself against a fence while he waited. He enjoyed watching the people come and go. The irony of arriving in a faux New York after aliens invaded the real city wasn't lost on him; furthermore, he didn't know what the city looked like after half the population turned to dust, but he could imagine it so seeing this New York bustling with energetic and hopeful people heartened him. His death and losses were finally becoming real to him so being around people reminded him he was still alive in Goodland.

He glanced over to Wanda when he heard his name. "Hey, you," he replied as he pushed himself away from the fence. He hesitated, but then held his arms out. "You look good, beautiful."

There was just an instant of hesitation of her own when she saw him, but as he pushed away from the fence, Wanda continued walking forward - and directly into his arms when he held them out. Hugging him tightly, she closed her eyes and stood still for a moment. They hadn't hugged like this before, but it certainly seemed like the situation warranted it, and she was glad for the connection all the same.

"So do you," Wanda replied, then smiled a little as she loosened her grip and looked up at him. "It's very good to see you." At the very least, it was almost like having a piece of Vision there with her, to have Tony around. "How are you feeling?" She meant physically, since with her powers she could pick up his emotions though at the moment she kept them dampened to respect his privacy.

Tony squeezed her gently. It was odd feeling like he needed to connect with her all over again, but he reminded himself it wasn't her fault she popped in and out of their strange reality. "Good, good," he replied. Sure, there were a million conflicting emotions that came with living in Goodland, but Tony was happier than he had been in a long time even with the hiccups.

He caught the emphasis on "very" and couldn't help teasing her. "I mean I guess I must have looked like real shit last you saw me." He laughed. "I am sorry. Morbid joke." Sure, humor and sarcasm were coping mechanisms, but it got him through the day.
