Well, at least he was willing to try new things. That seemed important for surviving here... well, anywhere now that she thought about it. Sure, people got by in their own ruts, but thriving and growing required some kind of adaptability. She realized too late that her brain was diverting down a potentially treacherous path and flashed him another smile his way, trying to make sure it didn't seem distracted. "Plenty of time, yea. I have no idea how long we're here for, but there's no way to leave as far as I can tell." So it could be years in her mind.
The more he talked about the Isle, the smaller her steps became, until she'd stopped on the sidewalk, really watching him for the first time. Some of the kids that showed up at the school would rage against their lives changing, even when it hadn't been that great for them before.
