WHO: harry hook and hope mikaelson
WHERE: it was supposed to be pizza, now who knows
WHEN: this afternoon
WARNINGS: tbd
SPOILERS? probably for D3

The town, or whatever this place was, dinnae look quite the same anymore. Everything was just off and he knew it wasn't because he had gotten drunk or something. This place was different. Bloody magic. A faint shudder went through him as he realized just how much magic was still affecting his life. He would never be free of the influence of that nasty stuff it seemed. What really got him though was the fact he had experienced freedom for a brief moment. A mere closing of his eyes and it was over. Harry had stepped off to the side to calm his mind and woke up to nearly heaving his innards out.

How was that fair?

He stood twisting on of his rings around on his finger as he waited for Hope. His gaze wasn't really focused on anything at his let his mind wander. Was his gorgeous idiot alright? Aye, probably was. Jay was most likely keeping Gil distracted, and while it might irritate him, he wanted Gilly-Boy to be happy. Evil knew that idiot was far too sunshine for the Isle. He had watched when Gil experienced fresh fruit for the first time and it had wrenched his bleeding heart. As long as his second mate was free of the Isle than he would do his best not to worry. Gil had Uma, she'd protect the huntsman's son.

A noise caught his attention and his kohl-rimmed eyes shifted just enough to take in the sight of Hope approaching him.

"I dinnae think yer pizza place is still about, wut with the town looking as it does now," he drawled out in his thick Scottish brogue. Harry knew how to speak like a proper gentleman, he just actively opted not to do so. "Also, hullo, don't ye looking ravishing today?" He flashed her one of his charismatic smiles that tended to make wenches on the Isle swoon. Harry Hook was a flirt down to his bones.

His attire didn't exactly fit in with the area, but he had managed to tone it down just a little. His red vest was back in his room, but he still wore his ripped tank top and clam digger pants. Bits of plaid showed through as patches in the leather of his pants. His trademark hook was clipped to one his many belts. He felt naked without a sword, but he hadn't had one on him when he found himself here. Harry was going to have to fix that at some point, but right now he wanted to gather more information about this place.

"I am following yer lead today," he winked at her. "Do wut ye will with me."

No one had mentioned the entire world shifting beneath them. Hope had woken up in the same building as always only to head outside and be thoroughly confused as to where she was. A few hours of wandering up and down the streets, and she was fairly certain this was just another one of New York's boroughs, mostly from the signs and businesses. She could understand the magic of moving an entire building overnight, or even what it would take to simply make it look like they'd moved, but what she didn't understand was the purpose.

Even these outer boroughs were overwhelming enough for a girl from Mystic Falls to send her brain into more of a daze than a distraction, and with the full moon looming (a seriously unexpected consequence of jumping into a brand new world) she really did need something to occupy her attention. Luckily, she had plans... and hopefully ones that weren't negated by their new location.

Wearing the same jeans, shirt, and red motorcycle jacket that she'd arrived in, Hope didn't feel like she looked particularly ravishing until her brain caught up that he was flirting. Right? She flashed him a smile, feeling a little out of her depth. Boys didn't flirt with Hope Mikaelson. Not even Landon- he'd just been clumsily endearing until she couldn't help herself. She'd thought it was because they weren't interested, but she was slowly realizing it was because she'd closed herself off to the possibility, despite her mom's wishes.

"Following my lead got the last guy in a lot of trouble," she grinned at the private joke. "Are you hungry? I don't know the best pizza place here, but even bad New York pizza is still good pizza."

The smile wasn't the normal reaction, but he was still amused anyway. Harry wasn't looking to take a quick tumble with Hope anytime soon. No, he was looking for information. She had been in this place longer than him and that meant she was a fountain of knowledge. Oh, sure, he could have just asked Mal, but he didn't really want to deal with her sarcasm and judgment at the moment.

An eyebrow arched upward at her remark about the last guy and he found himself smirking. "I happen ta like trouble," he drawled out as he hooked his thumbs through his belt loops. Rings glinted on his fingers, drawing attention the chipped nail polish on his fingers. If he was going to be stuck in this place for a long time than he was going to need to find a supply of polish and eyeliner. Maybe some new clothes as well. His jaw ticked as he realized he would probably have to ask Mal how she was getting by in this place. Figured he would get trapped in another place with the future Queen of Auradon. At least Beasty Boy wasn't about, neither was the Pup or Jay. Actually, so far only Mal had said anything to him which made him realize not even Blueberry was here.

Harry Hook only had Mal in this place. Now that was an unpleasant thought.

He shoved all those pesky thoughts down and flourished a hand outwards in a motion to let Hope know she could lead the way. "Aye, I could go with some vittles. Trust me, lovely, anything here has got to be better than the slop on the Isle." His smile turned a little nastier as he tried not to think about the fact there were still kids working on crossing the bridge to Auradon. Who was going to take them all in? Better yet, why was he concerned? Harry ran a hand through his wild hair before blowing a slow breath out. It was clear his moods flipped on a coin, rather like the sea and a storm.

"Ye mentioned...pineapple. Ye need to understand, I know bloody nothing about most food. If ye tell me something is something then I will rightly believe ye."

Gil had called grapes melon because they just didn't know.

Scrunching up her nose, Hope gave him a mockingly incredulous look, sarcasm dripping from her posture before it dripped from her tone. "Yea, but do you like dying? I'm pretty sure he has." She'd killed maybe too many people in her short life, but most of them had deserved it. And she felt a little bad! Sometimes.

She started off in the direction of the food without checking to see if he'd follow. Her companion running hot and cold was a familiar concept, considering her father and half the kids at school. It didn't seem too out the usual to her. "Pineapple is sweet but tart at the same time. It's yellow and kind of grows with fibers? You can try it and I'll eat it if you don't like it. There are lots of flavors of pizza. Veggies, meats, veggies and meats...Just plain cheese."

"What's the Isle like? It seems so much unlike anything at home, and anything I've seen so far here."

"Tried, dinnae really take," he drawled out with a second thought. He had nearly died several times and yet it never somehow took. Most people managed to survive the worst and ended up suffering anyway. Those had always been awful moments, waiting and watching if that was it- if that was the time one of his crew was going to actually die. Death was a concept that Harry danced with. He put himself in danger over and over and somehow it was death that bowed out of the dance with grace.

The question now was whether or not dance was going to keep letting him live now that he wasn't on the Isle.

She took off and he followed after her without a second thought. His blue eyes taking everything in as they walked. He did swing his gaze towards her when she talked about veggies. The young pirate had never really been big on them, but mushy rotten veggies hardly held anyone's interest. It was easier to force down fries and fried fish since the fryer oil made it worthwhile. That or whatever Cook did. He could stomach the seaweed salad about once a week or whenever told him he had to have some. She was always making sure people were eating a tad healthy, without making it look like that was what she was doing. "I'll try the pineapple and maybe the cheese to start. Seems like I've got plenty of time ta try things, aye?"

He rubbed the pad of his thumb over his nails as she asked her question about the Isle. His lips pursed for a moment as he let that question tumble about for a moment.

"Ye ever been somewhere where everything is gloomy, there is this cloud in the sky at all times so ye don't know what the sun actually looks like. Everything seems grey and discouraged," he frowned slightly as he talked about his home. "There were so many people, so many hungry mouths, and the adults dinnae seem to care that much. Only a handful made sure the sprogs had food. On the Isle there is a saying. If see something ye want, ye take it or you break it so no one else can have it. It was not a nice place and most children were better off sleeping in abandoned places than under the roof of their parent. The Isle was a prison, lovely, why would it be anything but?"

Well, at least he was willing to try new things. That seemed important for surviving here... well, anywhere now that she thought about it. Sure, people got by in their own ruts, but thriving and growing required some kind of adaptability. She realized too late that her brain was diverting down a potentially treacherous path and flashed him another smile his way, trying to make sure it didn't seem distracted. "Plenty of time, yea. I have no idea how long we're here for, but there's no way to leave as far as I can tell." So it could be years in her mind.

The more he talked about the Isle, the smaller her steps became, until she'd stopped on the sidewalk, really watching him for the first time. "I don't think this place is anything like that," she said softly, not sure if that would be a comfort or not. Some of the kids that showed up at the school would rage against their lives changing, even when it hadn't been that great for them before. Any kind of change set them off and it didn't matter what kind of change it was. Hope felt like her whole life had been on shuffle from a young age, so she couldn't really relate. Change was life, to her. Hopefully, he'd take it as a good thing, she had a feeling he might, but people could surprise her.

His footsteps faltered and then stopped when hers did. He turned towards her slightly with a questioning look on his face. His brows knit together for a moment as he realized she was actually affected by his words.

That was odd.

"I have noticed," he hedged carefully. "Oi, I am not complaining. This place is just different, that's all. I am sure in no time I'll be annoyingly happy just like everyone else," he motioned with a hand to the area in front of them, as if showing off all the people. "This be just some adventure."

It would be a better adventure if Gil and Uma showed up, but he would make do for the time being.

He seemed uncomfortable with the topic, or the emotions, so she changed it. "You haven't met the right people if you think they're all annoyingly happy." Then again, maybe any kind of happiness seemed like an excess to him. Hope rested her hand on the door of the store they'd stopped in front of, pulling it open for him to walk through. The smell of cooking bread and melting cheese wafted out on a warm cloud, making her stomach grumble in response.

"It could be a bunch of small adventures. Starting with this one." Technically not his first adventure here, but it just didn't have the same punch otherwise.

"I haven't met many people," he countered. Harry had talked to quite a few people, but he hadn't exactly met most of them. His next words were cut off when Hope opened the door. The scents that assaulted him were unlike anything he had ever experienced before and Harry just sort of paused there. He managed to get his feet moving again and he brought a hand up to shield his eyes from the fluorescent lights that made the place shockingly bright.

"Aye," he agreed in a distracted tone before moving to study a map mural on the wall. It was one of those depicting Italy and had various pictures and blurbs about famous things there. Naturally it was all new for Harry. He frowned faintly as he studied the map and looked for the compass rose to give him a better understanding of what he was looking at. You could take a pirate into a pizza place and it seemed he would get distracted in no time.

He blinked suddenly and stepped away from the mural so he could go back to Hope. He didn't say a word, instead just glanced at the menu. The amount of food listed was astounding and left him feeling slightly annoyed.

People could have eat for days on the Isle if this place was around.

So she was annoyingly happy. Hope kind of wished Dr. Saltzman was here to meet Harry and hear those words directly from him. While Harry was off getting distracted and possibly overwhelmed, Hope walked up to the counter and started ordering. It was her treat, anyway, and she knew what she was doing. "A slice of cheese, a slice of Hawaiian, a meat lover slice, and five breadsticks with pizza sauce and ranch. Oh, and two fountain drinks. And... yea, that's it." Handing over her money, she took the drink cups and handed one to Harry. Unlike the ones she'd been to in Manhattan, this one actually seemed to have free refills, which would be good if he hated one of the sodas. And it even had seating.

"I'll show you how the machine works," she told him as she got her change, grabbing a shaker of cheese and pepper and plopping them down on the nearest table before heading to the drinks station. Patiently, she explained each soda, lemonade, and water option available before getting ice and a regular for herself so he could see how the machine worked physically.

Harry trailed along behind her as he worried his lower lip with his teeth. This place smelled intoxicating and he could actually feel his stomach rumble faintly in the beginning stages of hunger. He wasn't a huge eater, yet, thanks to the slop they were served on the Isle. His brows knit together as he listened to her explain each of the drinks. He tapped his fingers against the cup as he tried decide which one he wanted to try. Finally he settled on lemonade. The sodas were just a bit too strange for him. He had, of course, skipped the ice since it didn't seem that important. Harry took a swig of the lemonade and winced immediately.

"Shite," he breathed out. "Sweet."

Harry eyed the cup as if it had insulted his sisters and then just shrugged. An Isle kid didn't waste food or beverage, even if it tasted like it was sugar dying in his mouth. He threw an arm across Hope's shoulder, never one for personal space, and grinned.

"So tell me, gorgeous," he drawled out in his thick Scottish accent. "Do ye often show hopeless pirates about?"

"It's just lemons, water, and sugar, so you can cut it with water after you drink some, that should help." Commercial lemonades had way more than that, but keeping it simple seemed best.

For all of his swagger and his outfit, Harry didn't actually smell like a pirate, which Hope was very thankful for as he got right up on her. It was sort of like the sea, but also something sweet... She didn't back away because she knew she could take him, but it was a little surprising how close he got. The compliments were becoming less surprising.

"I would have to say you're my first pirate. I have some experience with rogues, though, if you were to ask around."
